Any aifu can give advise? I want to buy one of the following that is thin and got protection as well. Thanks in advance

- iSkin solo,
- Contour Fusion,
- Marware Flexi-Shell,
- Speck new CandyShell
*
Don't know about the rest but I got an iSkin Solo from the States. Never used it at all. It is Blue and if you are interested I want to sell it off at RM110. Here, the going price is RM140. You can check at GS.

iSkin is made of very high grade silicone material and very nice to the touch. I only use this type as the hard cases tend to scratch the phone particularly the chrome bezel. Let me know if you are interested or anyone out there.

Thanks.

I was planning to get Speck Candyshell.. saw it at Machines Mid Valley just now and the color that i wanted was available..

.. but i ended up buying Power Support Air Jacket (black).. lol

It would help forummers here if you expound on why you eventually opted for the Power Support Air Jacket as opposed to the Speck Candyshell that you initially wanted as you may know something we don't. Cheers.

Can I enquire as to whether you are able to hear when the phone rings? Especially when it is in your pant's pocket in a slightly noisy environment?

Well i'm using a pouch for my iphone 3g 16gb. It works great but there is a downside where the pouch covers the speaker as well(pending how u slot it in of course) which makes it harder to listen to ringing of any incoming calls. wink.gif
*
I have used many casings and now toying with the idea of using a pouch/sleeve.

I did post a question to a forummer earlier about the pouch muting the ringing tone of incoming calls in a noisy environment but he wa quick to reply that there was no problem which of course I took with a pinch of salt.

The other reservation is that I have SGP Shield/Bodyguardz applied to my phones and it may render them difficult to slip in and out of those pouches/sleeves. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this.

Im not pretty sure bout all the other pouches by other brands but currently im using SGP folder illuzion pouch and both my jacks are not covered and I have no problem on hearing the ringing tones at all =)..

@PeeEl: in the case that you're actually already using shields, i doubt you can fit into any kind of pouch or cases except for silicone cases only. As you noe those cases and pouch are made to fit snugly on ur iphone so even a slight thickness from ur shields will make it harder to fit into any form of case. If you tend to push them in, they will actually distort your sticker at the 4 corners of ur iphone. I have tried it out myself. Failed so I just opt to use pouch and I'm those who love to switch cases once awhile..  thumbup.gif
*
Thanks for the insight.

I, like you, like to change my casings. And I have a shield applied just to prevent scratches to the phone as I do sometimes leave it without any casing on, for variety rclxms.gif

The reason I have yet to get a pouch/sleeve is, it will only protect the phone when you are not using it. When you are, there is a danger of it slipping off your hand and the obvious unthinkable result rclxub.gif Since I want to have the shield on it looks as though I cannot make do with a pouch/sleeve(those slip-in ones). sad.gif

I wish we could do a poll on which are the best cases coz i'm so confused which I should buy hahaha?!

Speck Candyshell / Otterbox Commuter TL (don't know if its sold in Msia) / Switcheasy Colours / Incase Slider or Air Jacket / what else?

I am looking for all round protection including the bezel with enough cushioning to break a drop :-)
*
Such polls do nothing but if anything, add to the confusion as different people have different likes and dislikes.

You just have to do some homework and decide for yourself.

I have earlier tried to look for that, not only in Malaysia but Singapore as well but to no avail. Apparently, it now comes bundled with the belt clip only.

Oh sorry I forgot to reply you.

I was thinking to buy a speck candyshell at first due to variety of good reviews. Went to machines and as expected, they got a number of stocks but not the color that I want. Well, i just gave it a try.

Turned out the center of the case looked almost cracked. The sales person and myself witnessed that at the same time and he assumed maybe the unit has already defected by the time it was arrived.

Well, before he took it out off the shelve, I tried it. Once installed to the phone, candyshell fit firmly and some bulk is added also (not to mention the bling). Thing is that it's abit hard to take it off the phone. I think that is the reason of the crack. Maybe someone test the case before, it cracked and the person got away with it. Not accusing anyone, just my imagination.

Then I tried Power Support Air Jacket (matte black). I didn't even plan to take a look on this one but it seemed the case is so slim and the matte finish also gave a good feeling to touch. Plus, no logo, branding or anything at all, which is a good.

I'm not saying speck candyshell is bad but just my preference, for those who want good protection, you guys can consider the candyshell.

Now i'm looking for a pouch that would compliment the power support air jacket. Thinking of buying moshi ipouch / incipio orion flip

Once you have a case on, your phone cannot fit into any hard pouches and even some soft ones. So, don't buy online, go and check them out physically before purchasing.

SGP shields does cover the whole of ur phone including the chrome bezel. The LCD screen is provided along with a clear screen protector for more protection. If you do wish to skin or shield ur iphone, most likely you wont be able to fit into any form of cases nor pouches other than silicone cases. I currently have one more SGP shield in stock. Do feel free to pm me for more info on SGP product if you wish to enquire further.

Cheers  wub.gif
*
Allow me to make a slight correction. All shields cover only up to the edge of the chrome bezel. The 'surface/frontage' along side the screen is not covered. Hence my preference for silicone cases as they cover that protion as well, even having the shield on.

bodyguardz good enough?
*
Let me repeat what I and so many others have said. Cases for your iPhone is very personal, one might appeal to others but maybe not to you. Thus, you have to do some homework and see which you like. For RM100, you have a whole array of choice.

Bodyguardz is good enough to prevent scratches and scuffs but not from drops and knocks.

what if i take 'some' time a read through 92 pages and non of yous ever discussed about that? <---also refer to most the time some forumers like to give advices like refer back refer back it wont hurt and when refer back nothing that can answer to the questions, not like i never tried in other topic before
*
If I and so many others, when we first came here to LYN have taken the time to read, why can't you? If you have been here long enough you will know we do not like to spoon-feed. They may be others who are willing to give you the time of day and for that I say good. If you sincerely want to learn more about your iPhone and what more can be done, please don't be lazy.

Btw, how do you know what you want to know is not in the posts if you don't bother to read them? And fyi, it is because I have taken the time to read all the posts.

@NickyKhoo,
But Y would U still need a case if U oredi haf iShield - wouldn't the iPhone look better "naked" ?
*
@tink, there are people, like me, who just want to be doubly safe(pun intended). Having a shield on only prevents the prized possession from scratches and scuffs, not knocks and drops.

Btw, it's good to have a shield on when you put on a case as it also prevents the phone from being scratched by whatever small particles that go in between the case and phone.

Hi there... first time posting here but I've been reading for a while. Will be the proud owner of a 16GB 3GS soon (fingers crossed) and looking seriously at the Sena Magnetflipper. Anyone here with experience using this case?
*
Welcome to the club. If you ask me, the minimum protection you should have is a shield and there are many in the market ie. Invisible Shield(IS), SGP Shield and Bodyguardz(BG), etc. Do a survey and see which you prefer. The downside however is, if you have it on, you may not be able to slip the iPhone in the type of case you are eyeing. However, you can with most silicone cases.

Suggestion....go through this thread, it's very informative.

Thanks. I've looked through this thread and it's been very helpful. Did find that most of the members here prefer the hard/silicon style casing. I agree they show off the phone way better but I need something I can throw in the handbag and not worry about the screen getting scratched by all the junk I carry in it.  rolleyes.gif That's why I'm thinking of the Sena and a good screen shield, maybe the Martin Fields if I can find one.
*
Handbag? Oh, you are a lass?!

Then your choice is pretty sensible but the downside, as I said, is you can't have a shield on. But another one you have is to get a silicone or whatever casing you desire which will protect your phone from even knocks and drops; and get a pouch like Golla and the like which will prevent potential damages when it is in your handbag.

Yup, a wee bonnie lass biggrin.gif. I've always thought that the SGP / Zagg shield was like a "laminate"/shrink-wrap  type of clear plastic film - it doesn't add that much bulk onto the phone, does it? How durable are they anyway - have read that they'll peel off and yellow after a while which was the main thing that put me off the idea in the first place.
*
You are right about the shield. It does not add bulk to the phone. It is just that the cases are made with such precision and thus are tight fitting. So, even with a thin film on the phone it renders it too 'big' to fit in.

The shields are actually quite durable and though it turns yellowish with time it does not peel unless you handle it very roughly and don't bother to take a little care of it which anyone who owns an iPhone should.

My nephew was using a similar one. No, it does not hurt your phone. But if you intend to use it portably, it may not be too suitable as it is loose connecting to the phone.

I second that opinion since I'm using one for the iPod Touch. The battery life is actually quite good since it manages to charge my Touch from near zero to full two times before giving out. My solution to the loose connection problem is very low tech though - all you need is a couple of rubber bands snapped on while the phone is in ur bag / pocket.  blush.gif
*
When I said portably, I mean on the run. So, having some rubber bands securing the charger to the phone and attending to calls is hardly the image you want projected when it is an iPhone you are using. sweat.gif

Heh, now you know why I keep it in the bag biggrin.gif Having said that, I'm using it on the Touch but I can't imagine relying on it for backup power (rubber band style) for my day to day use of the iPhone. I'd splurge on a Mophie if portability turns out to be a big deal since the iTrip doubles up as a charger in car.
*
Have also used Morphie Juice Pack Air. The downsides are:
1. Very bulky
2. Putting it on and taking it off will cause scratches to the phone somehow
3. Costly

Having said that, I think it is pretty much the best external battery yet.

The price is quite hefty. how good is the quality? i am interested in the magnetic flapper or something like that. just one question, will the magnet affect our iphone in anyway? coz last time i use to have a magnetic pouch and it will auto activate or auto answer the phone due to the strong magnet.

I've been using a magnetic flip-up case with the Touch for the past year and so far so good. Not sure if that's the same with the iPhone. In any case, I'll be able to give you first hand info soon - waiting for my Sena Magnetflipper to arrive in the mail smile.gif . Yeah, it's pretty expensive but I've used their cases in the past and they are really well made.

Added on November 25, 2009, 5:53 pm

Eeks, major downside for sure. Will the iPhone fit into the pack with a shield on?
*
A big definite NO! Actually it is the chrome bezel which somehow will get scratched. But I suppose if you do not take the MJPA out and put it back too often, it reduces the chances of the phone being scratched.
