does any of your maltese have problem with tangled fur? mine seems to be quite bad till I have to cut the whole bunch off and leave a hole innit sad.gif
*
maltese are long hair dogs.... and especially if your maltese is active, they are bound to get tangled hair.... thats why maltese owners have to make sure they are able to commit to combing their maltese at least once a day to prevent tangles and it progressing to matts (which can be painful and stressful for the poor maltese).... some times extra hyper maltese would need more frequent combing throughout the day because they get tangles more easily by playing, running etc....

and also use good quality hair products to keep their hair healthy and smooth.... dry and unhealthy hair are more prone to tangles too.... smile.gif

last time i use all systems range.... and also purposely go singapore to buy pure paws range which i personally find it slightly better than all systems.... as for sprays, i use magic mist and a specially formulated spray by a penang groomer....

im looking to buy a maltese from a breeder/pet store. but from what i've heard pet store arent recommended. can anyone introduce some breeder or a good pet store where i can get this darling from? smile.gif thanks alot . also, i saw some malteses that range from 1.5-2.6k in stores. can you educate me on some differences? i dont think i need any champion line or whatsoever just a normal one would do
*
normally we would strongly advice n recommend people to get their pets from responsible and reputable breeders.... petshops (whether physical shop or online shops selling multiple breeds of dogs) are not good sources as we dont know where their supply is from.... if u read The Star, few days ago you would have noticed that this issue was covered....

for a good and healthy pup from a responsible and reputable breeder usually within the range of 1.8-2k for those without champion parents, above 2k and can go up till 3.5-4k for those pups with Champion parents (note, its not just lineage but parents themselves).... the difference with the term "lineage" and "parents" is that lineage can mean anywhere from parents till great grand parents....

of course there is also the factor of locally bred and the popular "taiwan bred aka mini".... basically, local bred are known to have larger size which normally is off standards, taiwan bred normally are within AKC written standard sizes but people are normally fooled into thinking its "mini" due to comparison with local breds....

people i know who have maltese get from White Palace, Frederf Maltese (fred_twh) or Kinzonu.... these 3 you can find in lowyat itself, while Frederf and Kinzonu have FB accounts.... another breeder you can seek via FB is Hollybelle.... Frederf, Kinzonu and Hollybelle are dog show handlers however they might have pet quality puppies from time to time....

responsible breeders are not afraid to show you their house where they keep their dogs, how are the living conditions of their pets.... you can feel free to ask them any questions regarding your pets regardless before or after purchasing because they want to make sure that their dogs are sold to good owners....

wish you well in your search of a wonderful maltese.... they are a great breed.... most importantly, getting from a responsible breeder gives you a safer assurance....

My Lola is pagnent. I bring her to scanning and the got 2 baby. Now is 1 month already. Any advice can given? No experiences with this. How long before she give birth cannot bath ? Any other thing need to take care? Thanks
*
I'm sorry to say this but you should have read about all these and everything regarding pregnancy and whelping before you have even begun to mate her....

But what is done is done, i would suggest you search the net,or personally pm some of the maltese breeders for advice.... Or seek help from your trusted vet (which you should already have by now to help with the whelping in case any emergency crop up)

in the future, please breed more responsibly for the sake of your furkid....

If you dont want your dog to be in cage, maybe u can search for home boarding.... Maybe u can try search for happy furry house? Or get friends who are able to help u take care of ur dog.... smile.gif

my little girl is 5 and a half months old and she has short fur(i dont intend to let it grow long and i send her to the groomer once every 2 weeks). Theres a big problem is her tear staining .It is slowly getting more and more noticeable and i think i should do something before it gets extremely bad. Can any of u recommend anything to have it gone? btw she drinks from a bottle with filtered water(hope that helps?). Eats origen dry kibble and evo canned food(95% meat)
*
there are many reasons as to why your girl is having so much tear stain, especially at this age.... the important thing is to find out the cause.... it could be she is teething, or she has seperation anxiety when left alone at home, or the short fur around the face is irritating her eyes, or red yeast infection or just plain genetic (this cannot be helped la)....

do u clean the eye area everyday? i heard that some clean their furkid's eye area every few hrs.... or u can try to let her eat health n shine, a product to counter red yeast problem which causes the tear stain....

I think she could be teething because she doesnt have seperation anxiety when shes left alone. does teething cause tear stains? i keep her hair short and i do clean her tears very often. What is health and shine? anyone tried angel eyes or eye envy before?
*
Health n shine is a powder form of medicine for helping to control tear stains, but same with other tear stain control products, the owner still need to clean the eye area n solve the root problem.... When puppies are teething, it causes them discomfort, thats why they tear....

cute little girl u have there.... biggrin.gif what is her weight?

based on maltese standards given by AKC, maltese should weigh 4-6lbs which is around 1.8-2.7kgs.... but don't stress too much on the numbers.... as long as when you feel her chest, the ribs are just nicely felt with a layer of flesh, not too protruding (underweight) or ribs not felt (overweight), then it should be fine.... it has to be proportionate to their body size....

but just to answer your ques, the last i weigh my girl was when she was 10 mths plus, that time was 1.9kg.... smile.gif

her weight went up to 3.5kg after spaying a few months ago, now should be around 4kg... the weigh at the vet should be accurate. the bum looks bouncy but the ribs are still able to be felt though.

notice the abdomen part?

I heard from many who says that usually the locally bred maltese are larger in size coz the bloodline available in Malaysia is not well established yet.... furthermore many irresponsible breeders and puppy mills continue to breed dogs without any regards to health issues and breed standards... and some will even go to the extend of "advising" new owners who are not familiar with pets to feed less in order to keep them small.... but in actual fact, it is just starving them!

also due to this, many sellers also make use of imported puppies (who are basically within standard sizes but relatively smaller than local bred) and they put fancy terms like "mini maltese" to garner more sales.... in actual fact, maltese only have 1 standard size range (unlike poodles or schnauzers)

you don't really have to worry to much about the weight tho.... as long as she is healthy and active.... most of the time people feel their ribs to gauge if they are too thin or too fat.... although AKC does provide a guideline and standard for each breed, but no matter what their size or character, we still love our furkids as they are.... wub.gif I personally prefer if my baby girl was fatter, but not to the extent of obesity la.... laugh.gif

hi all~~

I'm just thinking to get another maltese to accompany my maltese gal but i'm just worry that my gal will jealous and cant get along with the new baby cos she is my only dog then suddenly another pups come and stay with her.

Can anyone pls gimme some opinion should i get another pup to accompany her?
*
does ur gal mix well with other dogs? maybe u can let her choose her companion, by bringing her to meet the potential pup... but u have to be sure that her vaccinations are up to date and she is not carrying any viruses or infections that may harm the unprotected pup....

a better option would be to adopt an adult dog.... u could bring her to a shelter to let her choose her own companion, that way, they both already know how to interact so u can judge their character towards each other better.... as some adult dogs may find a bubbly n active puppy rather annoying....
