As a red fan, i was a frustrated but as a mere football fan, i was quite content with the draw. Its one of those matches where results is secondary to a good game of football. It wasnt the kind of game where our players were flawless per se, but rather the kind of game you would expect from a knock out merseyside derby match. The atmosphere was terrific. I thought we played the match in good spirit but beside our brilliant goal, we didnt play our normal passing game. Gerrard ran himself to the ground and its frustrating that others couldnt step up and win us the game. We had few good chances to bury the game and those chances should had been put away. Its great that they now have to play a rematch, if there was any punishment for not winning a match, what better than for them to play even more football and redeem themselves

QUOTE(Casanova88 @ Jan 27 2009, 09:53 PM) Just because he din play well lately doesnt downgrade him. He is STILL a top player.Compare to Berbatov who scored 10 now, Keane scored 7 so far. 3 less with a huge amount as much as 10mil+ between both of them. And keane had been playing a different role compared to his time at Spurs while Berbatov is still playing the same role of getting fed by others. Not bad for Keane I'd say. |

Goals are definitely the biggest yardstick to measure strikers but beyond that is their ability to assist their teammates to score as well by creating chances for them. Based on his performances while at Spurs we know he is quality. It's just that we still have not been able to tap into that quality and really I don't know if we'll be able to get the best out of him in our setup.Compare to Berbatov who scored 10 now, Keane scored 7 so far. 3 less with a huge amount as much as 10mil+ between both of them. And keane had been playing a different role compared to his time at Spurs while Berbatov is still playing the same role of getting fed by others. Not bad for Keane I'd say. Based on his performances so far this season, it does look like we have another 'Morientes' case on our hands. |

RAFA: KEANE IN FRAME TO FACE WIGAN
Rafa Benitez today confirmed that Robbie Keane will be in the Liverpool squad to face Wigan Athletic on Wednesday evening. Keane missed the 1-1 draw with Everton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday, but Benitez revealed he is back in contention for a first team place and is hoping the summer signing can get on the scoresheet against Steve Bruce's side. "Robbie had a day off on Sunday, he trained on Monday and today as normal - he will be in the squad for tomorrow," Benitez told his pre-match press conference. "We are just thinking about using him in tomorrow's game. I will be very pleased if he can score against Wigan Athletic. "He is working very hard and will be a very important player for the rest of the season. Keane is in the squad so we don't need to talk too much about him." The Reds boss also warned against the threat Wigan will pose at the JJB Stadium but insisted that his Liverpool charges know how to go about getting the three points. "Every single game in the Premier League is tough," said Benitez. "Wigan has a very good record at home - they have a good team with a lot of quality and are physically strong too, so it will be a very difficult game for us. "My players are working very hard and training well, but we have to create more chances and win these games. "We just have to keep going." |

QUOTE(Casanova88 @ Jan 28 2009, 12:40 AM) If Torres can fit to the team in his 1st season, why can't Keane do it. Such an immature talk. You sound like you just watched football for a month. And you sound just like most United fans, being unreasonable.Furthermore, Torres never had any EPL experience when he joined Reds... Answer?? I'm not picking a fight with you but please analyze the facts, history, and Rafa's tactic before you talk bad on someone. Not everybody with such high value will succeed. We've seen so many flops not only in Liverpool history but in other teams too. Same league not necessarily same tactic throughout the teams. Individually, someone will have his down times in his career, and maybe now is the time for Keane. Remember when Crouch being goal shy for almost a season, but he manage to thrive it and settled down before he's been decided not fit into Rafa's style. It's just half a season and everybody talk bad about him. FIY, Keane is in Liverpool not because Rafa wants to, but the directors. He wants Barry, not him. So don't blame if Keane is not picked. And I believe he's been working hard to show that he deserved to be in the starting lineup. Give him another 5 months. Torres is a monster. I also didn't expect him to be that good in his first season. He has magic. But don't forget, not everyone is like him. So please. Think first before starting flamebaiting. |

I like Keane as a player, he has the attitude we need on the pitch, and a player like him dont suddenly become shite. A proven EPL striker, has a football brain and a diehard liverpool fan. He is twice the player than the likes of Bellamy and Cisse. A fully integrated and in form Keane, is simply magic (albeit not as magical as the godly fowler, but magical none the less)
IMO the cause for the situation with Keane is twofold. Firstly, all the pressure is pretty much Keane's own doing. The football we play is a lot more demanding and arguably higher quality than any football type he's experienced in his career. Maybe he is struggling to adapt to our style of football but i really do not think this is the case. He doesnt really play that bad, but its the amount of misses and the way he misses a good number of chances is why fans and probably Rafa doubting on his ability. Had he put away even half the amount of those misses, no one will doubt him or even compare him to Berbatov. I think Rafa has been quite fair to him as he frequently started Keane at the start of the season and i think its only fair that Rafa opted to give other players to start. To make matter worse for him, Gerrard has been playing exceptionally well as the 2nd striker. And with Torres back, Keane will find himself even more down the ladder. The other problem i think is probably due to the last transfer issues which would suggest either Rafa or the club at fault. This is going to be controversial but the more i think about it the more it makes sense. Based on previous transfers, it seems whenever Rafa chose to spend a substantial amount of money on a player is when he sees that player as an essential part of his team. i.e. Torres 20mil, Masc 18mil. It doesnt make sense that Rafa for all his wheeling and dealing, notoriously a pragmatic valuator of players, suddenly had the audacity to spend 20mil on a bench warmer. Surely, at that fee it would suggests Keane has an important part in a grander scheme this season. The problem i think is the failure to sign Barry. Its been generally assumed that Rafa wanted Barry signed before Keane. Rafa imo was already adamant that Alonso was leaving and had Alonso left, Gerrard would be pulled back in CM with Masc. Despite what people think, i really do think Rafa wanted Barry for the left mid and to further bemuse most fans, had he gotten Barry he would not have signed Riera. Barry is also to able play as various other positions namely CM/DM and even LB, which further makes him a Rafa-esque kind of player. With Gerrard back in CM, only then the team is setup to fit in Keane. Keane will then be able to play either as a 2nd striker in 4-4-2 or in an Aimar role as part of the attacking 3 mids 4-2-3-1 . So essentially, by failing to land Barry, it meant Alonso had to stay and Keane was purchased with the team not setup to fit him in. This exactly what Rafa is fuming about and insisting with more control in transfer. Under current contract, he merely provides Parry with a list of players and Parry will ultimately decide on which player he feels is right for Liverpool. As in last transfer window, it would now suggest that Parry is even dictating the order or priority of landing targets despite Rafa's clear list of priority. Who knows it could very well be that Parry is a bigger fan of Keane than Barry, then again there are not many Barry fans are there ? Except maybe Rafa, Capello and O'Neill. However now, with Alonso staying, playing the best football of his career, and Gerrard proving to be the most lethal striker we have this season, its just nearly impossible to fit in Keane. He cant play in wide positions, unless he's got Kuyt's inhumane stamina but even then the team cant afford playing more Kuyts without affecting its attacking prowess. As much as this is a problem for Robbie Keane its even more so for Rafa as he tries to fix in a 5th wheel on a 4 wheeled car. Keane did had he chances tho, and had he not fumbled and put away those chances, he would had a better chance in forcing his way into Rafa's team. So, this is the unfortunate story of Robbie Keane. I can only hope that Rafa will be think of something to fit in Keane next season. Maybe Alonso will leave next season, and Keane is able to fit in better.
