QUOTE(corez @ Feb 4 2009, 08:31 AM) Just checked the fixtures and seems like the last game for Liverpool is vs Spurs at Anfield. What went through legendary Dennis Law's mind when he was about to score for Man City to help relegate MU?Just wondering. Spurs need to draw to avoid relegation. Liverpool need to win to get the Premiership title. 89th minute penalty for Spurs. Keane is the taker (he was before he left Spurs) What will go through his mind? Pss. The answer is obvious but still imagine if he missed (not on purpose) Spurs relegated and he got a Premiership medal. a goal is a goal and that is why i will still score... so i think Keane will score..hahaha This post has been edited by nando: Feb 4 2009, 01:27 PM |

Liverpool FC boss Rafa Benitez: Video use vital for the game
RAFA BENITEZ has reacted to Jose Bosingwa’s escape from punishment for a kung fu kick on Yossi Benayoun by calling on the FA to make better use of video evidence. His comments come as former top referee Jeff Winter today blasted the FA over its shock decision to let Bosingwa off as ‘staggering’. Bosingwa kicked out at Benayoun in the closing stages of Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Chelsea at Anfield and it had been expected that the Portuguese international would be charged by the FA and subsequently banned. But having consulted with match referee Mike Riley, football’s governing body has insisted that the rule book prohibits them from taking any further action against Bosingwa. Riley, who had earlier sent off Frank Lampard in controversial circumstances, admitted that, while he had not seen Bosingwa’s challenge, it had been spotted by assistant Mo Matadar. The officials did not punish Bosingwa and, under FIFA law, the FA say they are prohibited from taking disciplinary action when incidents are seen at the time. Benitez does not wish to get dragged into a slanging match with Chelsea or the FA over the incident, but does believe the time has come for video evidence to play a more prominent role in such situations. “I will not talk about Bosingwa because the name of the player does not matter,” said the Reds boss. “But what I will say is that in these situations we have video evidence so it is clear that it must be used. “If the FA, UEFA or FIFA have to change the rules then they have to change them. If they use the evidence in situations like this one then the players will know that they have to behave. “These things can be controlled and this will be better for referees in the future.” Bosingwa has already held his hands up and admitted his challenge on Benayoun was wrong. He said: “I apologise for what I did and it was never my intention to hurt him.” But questions will inevitably again be raised about the FA’s disciplinary procedures if a player can escape punishment for such an obviously shocking challenge. Meanwhile retired referee Winter, who posts comments on his personal website www.jeffwinter.co.uk, said today: “I am scratching my head. “It’s another perfect example of the FA being totally inadequate in dealing with things. “They talk about respect with officials but when they have opportunities to uphold their campaign they put their head in the sands. I find it amazing they don’t take any action over this. “I’m certainly not aware of any rules or regulations that stop them. “If Bosingwa sticking his studs into Yossi Benayoun’s back is not an example of where the FA can step in and take action I don’t know what is. “I’m staggered and Liverpool are right to feel very aggrieved. “I wondered whether it was a reaction to the sending off of Frank Lampard, but two wrongs do not make a right.” This post has been edited by solstice818: Feb 4 2009, 01:30 PM |

IAN RUSH: Positive gamble was Liverpool’s winning factor
THE biggest lesson that Liverpool should take out of Sunday’s victory over Chelsea is that being positive and taking a game by the scruff of the neck really pays dividends. Liverpool were the better side from the off, there is no question about that, and any suggestions that the sending off of Frank Lampard changed the game do not really bear scrutiny. By the time Lampard was dismissed Liverpool were already well in control of proceedings, with Petr Cech keeping Chelsea in the game while Pepe Reina had hardly anything to do. But with the scores still goalless going into the closing stages, it looked like the Reds might have to settle for a point again and had that happened it would have been an almost impossible task for them to close the gap at the top of the league. Then Rafa Benitez took a gamble by removing Javier Mascherano and bringing on Ryan Babel, and this sent out a signal to his players that they were going for all three points and everyone in a red shirt heeded their manager’s message. Mascherano is a fantastic player but all Chelsea were interested in at that stage was keeping things tight and they were pushing so few bodies forward that Liverpool no longer required a shield in front of their defence, especially with Lampard no longer involved. The other big difference, of course, was the impact Yossi Benayoun made after coming on. It isn’t always easy to get into a game after coming off the bench, but Benayoun got himself involved straight away, having a couple of great shots and looking to create chances for others. Those changes were the catalyst for the victory because it was like a shot in the arm for the whole team and Liverpool stepped up a gear after Benayoun and Babel had been introduced. Make no mistake about it, this was a really big win for Liverpool and they should take a lot of belief and confidence from it. Beating Chelsea twice in a season means you have to consider yourselves as genuine challengers and hopefully now Benitez and his players will build on their latest victory because if they do they will have a really good chance of having a proper crack at United. |

QUOTE(Duke Red @ Feb 3 2009, 10:38 AM) I'll probably be in Trader's Hotel. Have an event at City Bayview on Thur night but it's a simple dinner thing and I have to be there for formality really. Any idea where I can watch the game? Don't want to run the risk that the hotel won't have the channel. Trader is in town, near several 24 hour mamak/nasi kandar place...kena teh tarik satu, sama roti canai. If Liverpool win, celebrate with huge piece of cholesterol inducing but wallet robbing prawn, baru ada atmosphere mah!but if you prefer to watch the game in comfort of room, different story. problem is most hotel subscribe EITHER espn or star sport i think.. if you're thinking of pub with free flow of beer..sorry...not familiar in town area... I think there was an advertisement before, something like 98% of United fans have not even stepped on Old Trafford. However I totally changed this view after staying at Old Trafford for 3 years (97-00). Its weird seeing my "mat salleh" neighbour wearing Man Utd jersey going to the stadium instead of the usual non "Mat Salleh" supporters |

Ian Rush on Riley :
QUOTE How a referee can miss something as blatant as this is beyond me. If players can be suspended for getting things wrong I think referees should do so as well. |

I really hate the way the press is blowing this Robbie Keane fiasco out of proportion. The worse thing is that after reading today's "Star", you get the impression that it was Rafa's mistake he was bought in the first place! I checked the source and low and behold it read, "The S*N UK". Well surprise surprise.

Don't you know that everyone on earth is against us. Media here in Malaysia are not interested with Liverpool story. I always observed, any Liverpool news will be small at the corner of the newspaper.
And now, even peoples in FA are either Liverpool hater or Chelsea lover. Bosingwa didn't get what he deserve and Lampard is forgiven. Justice my *ss. |

(as in not the first time, sorry keane..yuk) but keane should know he has 'past' his best when he joined us. sure keane is brilliant & if LFc ever needed keane caliber, it was probably 3-4years ago. not this season. in any case, like all players departing, YNWA. keane. |
