Thanks guy for the information of the ISIC. I thought it's issued by the university. Now, I know it's endorsed by the UNESCO. The issue of the card just takes 5 minutes at MSLTravel office according to the website.

yeah i mentioned that last time. well in my honest opinion i dont think it matters if you are returning to your home country. its only when you want to visit other countries. i had a friend who left australia like 2 months after her student visa expired, they just stamped and said have a safe flight. hahahahah. try call the embassy again and find out.

I did mine in the Aussie HiCom in Spore... The updating process was pretty quick, approx 10 minutes like you said. But the available hours there are really shit, 9am-12pm daily only. Miss it, and bye bye, come back tomorrow.

One more thing to add on, especially for those who fly SQ and go to Changi or enter Msia via the causeway/2nd link... Make sure your passport's expiry date is more than 6 months away, otherwise you won't be able to pass the immigrations and be trapped at the airport.

But if it's just for transit flight to Msia it'll be alright.

And as a reminder, make sure you bring your old one together with you when checking in at the airport counter. Sometimes they would want to see the old one as well, especially if your ticket is bought with the old one (which is usually an open ticket).

I browse thru Gumtree website and seems like mostly the rent cost $150 and above.

I wanna know how much does the cheapest rent anyone cud possible get living/studying in Melbourne??

Brisbane hasn't had trams for a VERY long time, but international students get  concession fares on public transport.

And to kurtkantoi, there was some discussion translating driving licenses further back. I've personally never had to deal with translation services formally, but the Malaysian high commission in Canberra will do it. Alternatively, do some research about  NAATI; they are the best bet, if a little pricey.

btw, a friend is tryin to get a place in lygon...she said, its AUD500 p/w. crazy. tryin to get a place for since ill be stayin in chadstone.. sigh..so far.

I need to ask you guys for an opinion - would you guys pay $185/week for a student hostel in the CBD which includes gas/electric/water bills which is a stone's throw away from your uni, or would you opt for cheaper alternatives at the surrounding suburbs (Carlton, Fitzroy, etc) by sharing a flat/house with other people (whether it includes bills or not, I'm not too sure)?

A friend of mine who has studied in Melbourne in the past told me this, and I quote, "Staying with others in an apartment is an experience in itself and it's fun, where else a student hostel has a different feel." Do you guys reckon the same thing too? This is what's stopping me from booking that place right away 'cause I'm inclined to agree what my friend had said, but I thought I'd ask for a second opinion here.
