XP Pro SP3 with office 2003, Adobe Reader 7.0.7, QuickTime 7.6, Adobe Lightroom 1.4, Alternate RealPlayer 1.9, Symantec AntiVirus 10, FireFox 2.0.0.20, Photofilter installed.

boot time require 50sec to 1min.

boot time without Symantec Anti-Virus 40-45sec

conclusion.... dont install Symantec. tongue.gif

QUOTE(nothingz @ Apr 16 2009, 09:53 AM)
symantec softwares are just too annoying... 60 days trial --> better don't install

somemore it's quite heavy until causing around 5 seconds delay in your startup..... which i hate it... therefore i won't use Symantec Products

those karpersky and bit defender, i believe that they are quite heavy too, at least for a netbook

personally i would recommend avast home edition, at least it works fine even if i surf china websites for torrents, automatically pop out message to block the suspicious websites + download files.  i would say it is quite good compare with AVG and Avira(rubbish)

Does upgrade to 2GB ram help significant?
*
Been using my HP Mini 2140 for a month already with Win XP SP3, 2GB RAM, Office 2007 and Norton Internet Security 2009. I've also integrated the Norton password management with my IE7 browser, so far my experience with netbook has been excellent, no lag, hang or whatsoever.

Did the boot-up benchmark also and yes, the boot time range is from 50sec to 1 min. Mine booted up at average 58sec with the above configuration. Don't mind the boot-up time as I believe security protection is much more important and in my opinion NIS 2009 is the leanest Norton product suite to date (I don't work with Norton - hahaha). Besides, I seldom shutdown the netbook; always use the hibernate function which cuts the boot time almost half at 31sec. smile.gif

Depending on the usage, so far I've been getting an average of 2hour 50mins when doing work (heavy Powerpoints & Word files + browsing). Watching DiVx movies gets around 2hours 30mins on average. *Figures are my approximate estimation, didn't really clock it. Hmm.. perhaps we should do it huh, for the record smile.gif

RM1699 + 360 = 2059 + 250 (external drive) = RM2419

that's what i'm thinking to get 2140 or DV-2 since dv2 is rm2399 rclxub.gif

1. 10" VS 12"
2. 1.19 kg (should be higher if using 6cell batt) VS 1.7kg
3. standard onboard display VS HD3410
4. 1 gb ram VS 4gb

both got almost same thickness

good maths u have there.. haha how often do u use your optical drive? if yes then i suggest u get dv2 loh.. else 2140 still more portable than dv2 even if you bring 2 batts together with you n u get many hours on it without wall plug...

the optical drive for DV2 is external..so no need to bring along with us..for the mobility i think 2140 win but for mobile+perfomance DV rocks

how much they sell the 6 cell battery if we purchase alone?still 360 or more than that?
