Just when we thought HP had moved on, what with the Mini 1000 getting all the love these days, HP has returned to its original Mini-Note 2100 series of netbooks with the 2140. Supposedly aimed at businesses, the new netbook loses that sluggish VIA C7-M of its predecessors and replaces it with -- you guessed it -- a 1.6GHz Atom processor. There's also a 80GB or 160GB hard drive onboard and a 10-inch screen available in 1366 x 768 and 1024 x 567 resolutions, plus that lovable ExpressCard / 54 slot hasn't gone anywhere, but the machine remains otherwise mostly unchanged. Prices start at $499 for the base model, and OS choices include XP Home / Pro, SuSe Linux, FreeDOS and Windows Vista Home Basic / Premium. The laptop is certainly a nice step up over the Mini 1000, but we sure could use a bit more power under the hood. You know, for business.

Isn't this what everyone with a Mini 2133 wanted? The same hi-res screen and sleek aluminum casing with a speedy Atom processor. I can't wait to load this thing up with Windows 7

I sincerely think is a waste of your money !!! You can easily get a compaq laptop with intel core duo at RM1900 then spending RM1400 on small screen and slow proccesing

Its all about the portability, my friend. How about those guys who bought the ASUS N10J-A1 netbook for RM2700 for the 9600GT card in it? That's even more insane. This is just bordering it.

yeah, and i find that i oftenly wanna leave my laptop at home when i travel just because that brick is a pain to carry. rclxub.gif

when you travel a lot, a 2kg brick laptop weights more like 10kg. and a 1kg lappy weights like 100g.
not everyone needs a large screen a high performance GC. because not everyone game on their lappy.

the Asus N10J is my first choice if it weren't for the weight. it's a wee bit more than 1.5kg and goes over 1.6kg with the adapter and mouse and yada yada.
this new Mini 2140 is perfect (or near perfect) for me. need to know if there's 6 cell available for it. hopefully won't be as heavy as the N10J.

IMO, this is for those who want serious portability, like how you'd head down to starbucks while stuffing this into your handbag.

It's no point spending extra just to get a large bulky CQ40 or something, when all you want is just to surf the net outdoors...

Hmm... I spend 5k to buy a Fujitsu UMPC running on atom. Am I already insane? hahaha

Anyway, I like the brushed aluminium look of this netbook. Looks classy.

you use BT a lot? i don't. heck i've never used BT for anything. it only sucks battery in my laptop. laugh.gif
i've once tried BT wireless mouse. my butt-o-meter says it sucks battery faster. so switched to normal RF wireless mouse and lose one usb port. never used the BT for anything ever again. biggrin.gif

You're not insane enough... I spent 7k to buy a Lenovo UMPC, the Ideapad U110... Though it doesn't run on Atom (it runs on Intel Core 2 @ 1.60GHz)...
