QUOTE(davidmak @ Jan 8 2009, 09:35 AM) There could be a problem there. The blackout only happens when the proximity sensor is blocked with a surface, when that surface unblocks the sensor, display should restore immediately. Either the firmware is buggy there or the sensor is party blocked due to the assembly of the casing. The casing has a window to allow the sensor to operate. Maybe that window has partially blocked it. will shadows also make the display turn off? if say use leather casing even with a hole for the prox sensor, will the slight shadow caused by the casing turn off the sensor in normal or low light?

I have this problem too, but mine is because I apply a screen protector on my phone, it covers the sensor. Everytime i receive calls, the screen goes blank, I have to wipe the sensor area so that i can finally see who's calling.

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Jan 8 2009, 09:45 AM) if ter-press also effects it? it's not you're covering the prox sensor with something Yes, it shouldn't affect it. The proximity sensor works by emitting an infrared beam and then wait for the beam being reflected from a surface. If within a pre-determined time span, it receives the beam meaning it has reflected from a surface it'll turn the display off. Shadows or far objects will not cause this because the infrared beam will disperse and not concentrated enough even if it is reflected. Most proximity sensors have 2 mini lenses which suggests the transmit-receive nature. EOS400D has 2 lenses below the viewfinder eye cup. So maybe the casing has partially blocked the sensor OR the sensor position has move such that the casing has blocked it. Or there's something wrong with the sensor. Did you do a self-repair attempt to correct the speaker?

QUOTE(ipohfly @ Jan 8 2009, 09:57 AM) another problem.... seems like 5800 is a 'sensitive' phone Lol...this is not a problem la... It's just the user mistake by applying the screen protector that cover the sensor area. And i think it's a great feature, cos it off the screen when you are talking, can save battery.

yeah...now i understand. that means if the casing moved a bit the IR beam will hit the casing and turn off. can the IR sensor be disabled from the phone or by using a sofware cause that will make sure that nobody has problems with their prox sensor. And i think it's a great feature, cos it off the screen when you are talking, can save battery. The screen protector is clear but because it also reflects a bit of light at some degree it has a chance to reflect the IR beam back and thus turn the display off right? Did you do a self-repair attempt to correct the speaker? erm, i tried to slip my nail at right side panel, and closed it back. i dunno that it was so easy to open it, just a slight peek, buka less than 0.5cm. ada problem?
