I'm using APEX http://www.apexrentacar.com.au. Very cheap for me compare to other international car hire, the package include insurance, gps and baby seat.

Hello, i hope any of you could clear my doubts smile.gif))

1) is it possible to move around with public transport eg train, buses..or it's a must to rent a car? Which is cheaper?

2) do renting a car over there require you to apply for some permit or international license thingy?

3) how long ahead should you plan your one-week self travel? Cuz i'm afraid if there's mot enough time

1. If you are doing solo trip, no point to rent a car. Public transport is fine. Do your research. Plenty of backpackers around.
2. No need IDL in Aussie.
3. All depends on you. Some like impromptu trips, some like everything planned out. Just make sure you have enough money and have a place to stay if it's peak season. Otherwise, good to go. 1 week is a lot of time. I can do my research in few hours if I want to, it's just a matter of time whether I wanna sit down and research or not. Sometimes we rather don't do any research, just go to the Info center there, pick up some brochures and decide where to go there and then.

Do not travel daily between. The cost is one reason, and the time wasted is another unless you have free accommodation in either place, even that you really need to calculate the cost. If your purpose of going there is for the theme parks, then stay at Gold Coast. There’s really not much sightseeing in Brisbane.
