yeah.. i wondered how much students did segi and the likes manage to take in for their first batch.

Even for uni like UCSI who has already produced their first batch of students, they are still struggling to fill their places. Well that is before they open the seats to their foundation students.

Only IMU and Monash consistently hit their target every year.l

Very quick question.

MBBS(IMU) or MBBS(Monash)? Assuming AMC accreditation is not on the table.
*
MBBS (Monash) for the better networking opportunities and better student ratio and the chance to go to Australia but paying Malaysian fees.

You should perhaps clarify "chance to go to Australia....".  tongue.gif
*
During your 5th year 1st semester it is compulsory for all students to go to Australia...

QUOTE(Syd G @ Jan 19 2012, 06:10 PM)
If you're doing IMU local, there are also chances to go to partner schools for 3 months. So... that point is moot biggrin.gif
*
For Monash is guaranteed 6 months... for IMU you are talking about 'chances'... which point is moot...?

I thought its 3 months, no?
*
QUOTE(podrunner @ Jan 19 2012, 10:32 PM)
That's what I read as well.
*
oh it's 3 not 6? my bad.

QUOTE(Syd G @ Jan 20 2012, 11:13 PM)
Because you said :
I'm curious about the student ratio thing. Since the number per intake is now 150 and IMU local only have about 70 seats, shouldnt the ratio be better after the PMS people are gone?
*
yeah well for Monash all 150 must go to Australia for 3 months( as stated above to qualify) for AAC accreditation....but for IMU not all have the chance to go...unless they have a new policy which i am not aware of...

QUOTE(Syd G @ Jan 20 2012, 11:38 PM)
So if the AMC/Australia 3 months thingy is out of the picture.. it boils down to teaching staff, student ratio, clinical schools and the difference is cost, right?

Are there any other jarring difference that I need to be aware of?
*
Number of facilities...especially the histo lab and library.....as well as amount of parking slots and printing machines..

You also don't have to wear formal everyday which saves money and time hand washing and ironing...

Lecturers are mostly local....

And of course the opportunity to network with other people from courses outside of health sciences...

QUOTE(limeuu @ Jan 21 2012, 11:48 AM)
that sounds like electives......which is in the prograrmme of almost all med schools and one can do it anywhere, and is mostly used by students as a holiday to visit a place they likely will not visit otherwise,,,,,

usually 3rd world students want to visit the 1st world,,,,and vice versa.....

very different from monash msia's compulsory exposure to aussie medical environment as required by amc rules.....

Added on January 21, 2012, 11:52 am
150?!.....

wow....no wonder they are desperately still going all around the country trying to solicit students.....and taking in people with rather low qualifications......
*
Erm not exactly. Their Quota is 150. but I doubt try manage to fill it up every year. The most also 120 for last year.

_______

Oh another advantage for Monash: the journals you can get access to is so much more than IMUs.

Ah well, doesn't really matter la. lol. bottom line is Monash's intake is still less than IMU.

If this Icare is implemented in countries like Bhutan then I have no qualms about it.

But we are talking about Malaysia where the rulers are our great BN. All these just tells me the government coffers are nearly dried up and can no longer subsidise the current public health system and they are trying to milk more money from the public to fund their own personal needs.

i know. but, i'm stuck there too.
my mother is opposed to me pursuing medicine whilst my father is in a whole different continent and it's hard to contact him
what would you suggest cybersetan?
my father said that i should opt 4 a-levels, but all the uni that i'm going now say that i should just go 4 foundation in science since its faster and more direct towards medicine.
*
foundation in science will not prepare you well enough for a decent medicine course... go do A-levels...

The ones who have done A levels were Singaporeans. I think about 3 or 4 Malaysians got in via the standard MUFY program. All of them did the program in Taylor's College Melbourne. From this year onwards, however, MUFY is run by Monash College.

I don't think the chemistry paper became "tougher". Questions would have been based on the syllabus covered.
*
Agreed. Most students are taking MUFU far too for granted.
