I was using 1st Gen all along ..
I kept my 3G in drawer for about 3 months now ..
Finally can clear the dust off and let it shine baybehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ..

I just got network lost 1 minute ago.
but wait about 30 seconds signal appear back.

my suggestion switch carriers not to automatic.
mine set to digi by default.

So far so good. No dropping calls, or signals.
Very stable for me.

DiGi user here also

Each time when reboot the phone I will have to eject and reinsert the sim card.
Only then the telco will appear.

Did you guys face similar fate.

I'm using iphone3G from US with sim unlock. Currently firmware 2.01 with 01.45 baseband. How do i upgrade to 2.2 firmware? I know we are suppose to use itunes to restore to 2.2. and Quickpwn after that.

Will it then relock my US iphone 3G?

dont use itunes to restore to 2.2, on the yellowsn0w site they give use a 2.2 ipsw that we shoould restore with. follow instructions on their site

How can you relock an already locked phone?

No need any custom firmware, just download the 2.2 firmware from here (could take some time as the size is 200mb++) and shift + Restore in iTunes. Use Quickpwn to jailbreak and add the source (refer to 1st page) for yellowsn0w in Cydia. Install the package, reboot, wait for 1 minute at the 'slide to unlock' screen and eject your sim and put back. Thats should do it.

The most important part here is Jailbreak. Don't use any custom firmware downloaded from an untrusted source. Who knows what they put inside that firmware. That yellowsn0w.net site is not from dev team so I might suggest avoiding it.

yea, im refering to http://www.yellowsn0w.net/ they give you a download link for the 2.2 firmware to download.
Once you have downloaded it, plug your phone to Itunes and restore (click restore while holding shift). this will open up a window that lets you select the firmware you want to install from a folder (the on you downloaded from yellowsn0w)

thanks for putting up the question. I am also in the same predicament as yours....

It sort of works for me (it goes on and off every hour or so) but i think its working great for some people. I hope the next version will be more stable
