Hmmm... ok, so far we have
a) Guitar - Setsukyie (Kuching), Brian O'Connor(Taiping) for video jam, Kusakabemisao, Ultimaweaponx, lightnokira for real jam
b) Bass - Thalmes for video jam, myself for real life jam
c) Drums - Eccentrical (convert from guitar), backup Stones
d) Vocals - so far Misshermes, riku2replica and gukichan has posted here
e) Wanna join - shah, wolfx, yafex
f) Other notables - BelowAverage, dishwasher (the TS!!!)

For those interested, post here (or pm) your location AND the distance in which you are able to travel to. I'll start first, I'm in Kajang, with range all the way to Cyberjaya, Shah Alam and Kota Damansara. I can pick up Eccentrical if he wants to save fuel.

I'm guessing that the vocals are still an unknown. Since like 75%+ of anime songs are from female singers, we MUST have one. From what I gather through Eccentrical, some of them might need some help in terms of logistics. Heck I wouldn't mind arranging and paying a pick-up taxi for the vocal, so long as we can have some amount of singing.

In terms of $$$, don't worry. If yer a bit cash strapped, I can fund the studio time and co-fund a drum set,

For the jamming studios, the thread below lists some
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/168736/+20

I'm familiar with Artrax and Prosound in Bangi, and AkarKarya in Damansara

@ultimaweaponx: Apologies for confusyen! But who knows, you might be like Yui smile.gif

@Eccentrical: Shouldn't it be "Late Night Supper"?

@sai, if there's another bass player for real jam, I can play the keyboard. Thought Eccentrical's bro could try to play keyboard. But apologies again, both of us are not moe sad.gif

And so again... we need a vocal...

Stone's busy this weekend, but next weekend should be ok for him. So tentatively the 1st meet-up for a rough jam is Fri night Jul 4, Sat Jul 5 or Sun Jul 6.

Eccentrical, need yer help to paste a google map of the studio place in Miharja. We'll use that place first as it isn't too far for me and Stone to go to. If you need transport, just pm.

The rest, if you can make it just pm me or Eccentrical.

So far the song that we're somewhat familiar now is Ash Like Snow. Need at least another 2 or 3 to have a good start.

In addition to ALS, I'm now accustomed to the following (all bass that is)
a) The two Haruhi songs, God Knows and Lost My Music
b) All K-On songs, except the one in the 12th eps and the opening (a.k.a. finger breaker) - Don't Say Lazy, Fuwa Fuwa Time and My Love is Like a Stapler.
c) I can pick-up Be My Girl from watching/listening to Thalmes, and I gotta agree, that song is suitable for a 1st try song.

So who's in!

Good thing is there's an excellent tab on youtube for Cagayake Girls... need to be able to play it at slow pace before turning up the tempo...

At this point I probably can play the OP TV size, but lack the stamina to play the full version...

QUOTE(Eccentrical @ Jun 24 2009, 03:03 AM)
The song i know ( well, some i ve learnt b4 but forgot dy)

- God Knows ( Nagato Solo part only )
- Daybreak's Bell - Hyde
- Driver high - Hyde - solo part only
- Sobakasu - judy mary
- Hit in USA ( The easiest one so far ) - beat crusader
- Minna no peace - afromania
- Ride on Shooting Star - The Pillows
- Konayuki - Remioromen
*
Sobakasu - have to ask if you REALLY can play the solos... the song technically has two leads, both playing jazz variants... mega difficult. Strangely its drum isn't too difficult. For the bass, it's jazz too. While it'll take time for me to learn it, it's not totally impossible (unlike Cagayake Girls)

Hit in the USA - this is the OP to Beck right? If so, I should be able to pick up a simplified bass of it. Am weary of its deceptively slight off beat bass playing (it hits earlier than even the drums in some places)

Pulak dah, Stone says he's free this Sun 28 Jun 2pm till 6pm. Can anyone make it during this time?

Also on this short notice, the only song has some preparation is Ash Like Snow. If Misao's around then can add Don't Say Lazy. If Eccentric's around then add God Knows.

For the 1st run, clean's ok. Heck I'll promise you the drums will be all over the place smile.gif

@ultima: Heard from many that the best "1st guitar" is a good 2nd hand guitar. You can buy many of the entry level guitars recommended on the web, but it will sound like one. Also, one needs to consider to buy effect pedals (or gadget) too (devices that makes those guitar sound heavy metal), then an amp.

I do recommend getting an instrument that is 'easier' to play. Guitar necks varies in size, then there's the weight. I've had bad experience of buying an acoustic guitar with extra long frets that sounds awesome, but it was soo difficult to play (strings too tight) that I somehow grew to dislike playing guitars.

When I was 'forced' to play the bass, I felt the de javu when the first bass guitar given to me (for free) was also so hard to play. So, I made the objective to buy my own - something that felt easy to play, then find one that has reasonable sound for the budget. Go to a shop (ideally with a guitar playing friend), then test play the one you like, even though you're not buying one yet. And don't be fooled by having the store man playing it - he's likely a pro and he can make guitars sound awesome.

So I landed on the Ibanez GSR that I play now. It's a beginners bass, but it's sure much better than the TGM bass given to me.

FYI, I don't have an amp, but bought myself this M-Audio FASTTRACK USB recording interface to connect with my PC (comes with effects software), and a good set of headphones.

Yeah Tissue hime on bass is killer. If I ever play this song in a band, I'd like to try some of her mods smile.gif

Apologies to all, an oversight - there aren't any studios open during afternoons! Most of them open around 8pm onwards, and Stone can't play at night. Well, it's more the reason I should get my own drumset. My future Miku songs need a better drum sound too, so...

Added on June 28, 2009, 1:04 pmAnd DAMN!!! I snapped string 3 of my bass sad.gif... Heading to Alamanda to buy new strings....

Haha ... Yes indeed the GSR200 is a good beginner bass . What upgrades are you looking forward / targeting ?
*
I don't play mah bass that often enough to warrant an upgrade. RM750 when I bought it. Only played on stage once and that's it...

Got yer strings Eccentrical, cheap ones though (RM22)... For me, was contemplating a full string replacement. but the bottom two strings were ok, so I opted a single string replacement (RM20 for string #3 i.e. A). Alas, after installing it, it didn't feel the same as the other ones and sounds a bit brighter. Next time will get the full set (RM76)

Well this'll do for a while...

Yep bass strings are pricey. Am surprised that the string that broke is the second thickest. I punish string 1 and 4 for K-On songs but rarely hit string 2 as hard.

Hmmm out of the list, did you ever find the guitar for Ash Like Snow?

Concurrently, I'd like to ask yer opinions on one of these two drum sets, should I choose to buy

Stone and I have longed being looking for one so that we could finish our 'works'. Also for those Guitar Hero /AS dudes around Kajang/Bangi/Putrajaya, having this drum would allow you guys LEARN this instrument. Of course ye have to practice at my place.

Am serious about buying...

From the silentphobiaband, we had about 12-14 songs, at least 5 are near complete and can add voice onto it. Plus each of us have personal songs to be jotted down. For me, I have at least 2 Hatsune Miku songs where a drumbeat software just doesn't give the song justice.

Awww... the Pearl Forum drum's taken (got PM just now)... Btw, the more I read about buying drums, the more complicated it sounds. Unlike bass where you can kinda get straight forward advice on good ones, this drum business looks seem to say something like this:

"Buy a good 'foundation' drum, then replace each piece of it (cymbals, drum heads, snare etc) to get a good sounding drum"...

Oh dude... we're not even close to get into a competition... the goal is just to be able to play at a convention, and then I can tick off an item to my to do list in life smile.gif

On a separate matter, I just realized something while practicing out Cagayake Girls... base on the pitch of the end part, and confirmed on the youtube tab, one needs a B-E-A-D-G 5 string guitar to play it! I was trying to find the note on my bass and realized that it slid way beyond the E string!!! Which means that Mio's bass (the Fender Jazz Bass, which is a 4-string bass) would have NEVER been able to play the full song!!! Could try to down tune the E string in the middle of the song, but it'll make playing the part slightly before this low tone phase VERY DIFFICULT TO PLAY.

And as shown is some of the videos posted, some 4 string players just 'buat sendiri' that portion.

Added on July 1, 2009, 11:38 pm@Thalmes: Maybe an upgrade path is to a 5-stringer hmm.gif

Hmmm... somehow I feel like the prizes for the competition is a little too cheap for the effort. A night's gig could net you RM250 to RM1k already. And yeah I understand the rush of competition, but the earnings must commensurate with the effort. Put another zero at the end of the respective prize amounts, and then you'll see some spirited bands...

It can be done and am practicing as such to down tune mid way to D smile.gif. Didn't know that that is exactly how to do it because the youtube tab video showed it as a note on the B string.

For last night's meet up at Eccentrical's place, we think that the following songs are in our current play list
a) Ash Like Snow
b) God Knows
c) Lost My Music
d) Sobakasu

Sorry Eccentrical if I missed the ones added at the end... was sleepy...

We'll add more once we gauge whether the drummer can take it, or we find another guitarist to sub for Eccentrical, which he would be moved to drums.
