Absolute rubbish esp when they mention not powerful  doh.gif

Most of the Onkyo and Yamaha avrs are made in Malaysia. All avrs have inflated figures of power output. What matters most is pure output when being hooked up with 7 spkrs.

The only prob is the price tag of Denon. Utter crap on those statements
*
I agreed. What do they mean "not powerful"? This is plain stupid with no brains or simply just making a crap statement just b'coz they dont carry Denon brand!

SO the best solution is to get a new dedicated Denon AVR with HD Audio support. Or maybe using a standalone BD player to decode the HD signal & send as multi-channel in to your Amp

If a mint condition of 2nd hand older model avr-3808 selling at RM3.8k cheap or not? Is it worth the taking?

I think you've misunderstood the purpose of multiple positions. Anyway, Audyssey recommends at least 6 positions (measurements) to accurately measure your room characteristics so that it can apply the appropriate corrections.

You should re-run the Audyssey setup.
I can't comment on the price as I dont know, but all I can say is check if this is the 3808 or 3808A. The firmware upgraded "A" version has Audyssey Dynamic EQ, Audyssey Dynamic Volume and HDMI Consumer Electronics Control (CEC). The A version should fetch slightly higher premium.

Retail was around RM5.5k-RM6k iirc back in 2009 before the xx10 series came out. Someone (i think junwei) was doing MO for $4.7k at one time.

It was just 3808 without the "A" version. I think even without "A" also equip with Audyssey Multi EQ.

Different, bro.

Apology, there is a difference indeed.

BTW, if used 3808 unit selling at RM3.8k expensive or not coz it is Year 08 model? If not, I may consider avr-3310ci instead. What are all sifus' comment?

the 3808's replacement model in the current Denon line-up is the 4310. By going for the 3310, there are several pros & cons (just off my head, if i remember correctly):
3808 has network streaming capabilities which 3310 doesnt
3808 has a higher wattage amp
3808 uses better DACs and video processor (and other bells & whistles e.g. AL24 processing, etc)
3808 made in Japan (if that's important to you)

3310 offers more HDMI inputs
3310 has the new GUI
3310 doesnt need the Denon ipod dock to play ipods (if that's important to you)
can't remember if the 3310 offers DSX though (maybe not).
The Audyssey is not a be all and end all final setting. However, it is a good starting point from which to make further fine-tuning and adjustments. Best to do this with an SPL meter. You can always bring down the volume of the rears.

Thanks for the input. How much is avr-3310 selling? below RM5k?

I hope not as............I just upgraded from 1909 to avr-3310!

To all the sifus, even I am using much more powerful 3310 compare to my 1909 but I find I have to crank up the volume more (below -15db) to get the same loudness. After going into the source level to adjust the volume +5db then it gets louder. If I leave it at 0db my volume have to crank below -15db to get decent loudness. Can somebody shed some lights?

I am not very sure on your case. But when I changed from 2309 to 4310, difference in SQ was quite significant.
*
The overall SQ is enhanced by a respectable margin too. When listening cd using pure direct mode, the imaging is well projected & instruments sound are very rich too.
It is like having a decent integrated amp.

My question is how come I need to go into the source volume in the menu to add a few db from 0db in order for the volume to sound average loud. If I leave it at 0db, I have to crank the master volume up -15db for normal listening level.

Hi,
I am using 2310, upgraded from 1709, same issue. The reason for the diff in vol is because the input sensitivity of your 2 amps are different, it is OK to adjust the input source volume - no harm. It's there to make the diff source play at same loudness on 3310; but if you don't have other inputs, then you can use the adjustment to make 3310 sound the same level to 1909.  If you really want to calibrate 3310 to 'reference dB levels' (which we don't need) you would need a sound meter & signal generator, otherwise just use your ears. Don't worry about the sound levels between different amp, just in case you WTS 3310 when you hear your friend's amp -20db sounds louder than yours at -15db.  Enjoy your new toy!
*
Thanks for your clarification. All the while I have been thinking that my 3310 which is rated at 120W/c should be able to sound loud before the master volume drops below -20db. So, by increasing the source level in order to maintain same loudness makes me wonder the amp is not packed at 120w/c. smile.gif

I owned 1909 before and using it to connect to astro box all the time. The upscale from Denon is reasonable, no problem at all.

Maybe you should try some other cables instead? Try to use yellow rca & see if the problem persist.

yeah power very limited in avr. even denon 4810 can only output 60w max per channel if all 7 channel driven. that's where power amp comes in.
*
Not 130w per channel as it states?

Denon 1910/2310 vs Marantz SR-6003, which one is better for a balance of movies and music 50%-50% ?
*
This question has been asked in Marantz Thread, of course the answer is Malan. Now it is in Sky Dragon Thread, the answer is straight forward. smile.gif

I have already sold off my trusty AVR-1909 for less than a year of usage........and upgraded to 3310. SQ thumbup.gif , even you pump up the volume it wont sound so harsh and ear piercing.
