I don't like Versace Blue Jeans because it smells like baby powder to me. Check out the reviews here to get a clearer picture http://www.basenotes.net/ID26120212.html

VBJ is quite versatile if u ask me and should be suitable for someone your age.

Brit smells strong at the start but give it an hour and it gets quite light IMO. Although The Beat ain't strong, the pepper note to just too damm overwhelming.

If u only tried those 3 on paper, I suggest u try them again on your skin. More often than not, trying on skin will reveal a fragrance's true nature.

does anyone know where I can definitely get Creed GIT?

Im stopping over in KL for 2 days and would like to get it. Does anyone know where the department store or whatever store that has it for definite?

Cheers
*
Isetan@KLCC, Isetan@The Gardens and Tangs@Pavilion (men clothing floor) are the places I know that definitely has Creeds.

Malaysia would be the last place I'll buy Creed though because the prices are the same if not more expensive than overseas. Nearby countries like Singapore, Indonesia and Philippines have Creed testers that are half the normal retail price.

hey guys... i was wondering which fragrances have strong woody basenote, longlasting and suitable for smoker..looking foward for my next purchase..thx
*
U will have to go with the older colognes that some will complain smell like uncle/old man. Try Aramis (1965), Chanel Antaeus, YSL Kouros, YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, Dunhill Edition, Aramis Tuscany, Aramis Havana, Versace The Dreamer, D&G Pour Homme and Gucci Pour Homme.

Those colognes i suggested have outstanding longevity and will last a smoker throughout the whole day. I am a smoker too haha. Be advised, my suggestons will not suit everyone and might sting the nose or give u headaches even when sniffing from the paper test strip.

Good Luck ! biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Clavicus @ Jan 5 2010, 07:48 PM)
Long lasting eh? I'll give them a shot, Dunhill sounds good. Btw that day i went to Just Parfum, tested YSL Opium (remembered YSL from your previous recommendation), the smell was real spicy and a little.. stinging. Beh tahan. Btw, went out today with Attitude, approx. 10 a.m. to now, i smell more like KL than i do the perfume.  sad.gif One to the abdomen, two to the chest, a little on the neck. Really need something that lasts the day, especially when i sweat, i.e. warm conditions.
It does, and it would be rather commons imo. Every counter/shop you visit, confirm they'll shove CK Free to you. And honestly, it smells a little like my Adidas perfume. Prolly more long lasting, but at that price... Don't think i'll be getting one. Try Sean John I Am King? IMO its along the lines of Free, with a little twist to it.
*
Well most long lasting perfumes have woody or spicy base so it ain't for everyone. If u are used to fresh, citrus and aquatic perfumes then smelling any of those I suggested earlier will be an eye opening experience (pun intended) LOL. that's why I gave up with the newer so called modern perfumes and opted for the classics (something your dad or grandfather would wear when they were in their prime) because they smell good and they last and not fade away after 4 hours haha. But some of the newer releases are still quite good too.

I know the feeling of disappointment when the perfume u just bought just vanishes in a few hours. Problem is most of the long lasting perfumes tend to get cloying once u start sweating and is best worn in an air cond environment or cold weather. So have to tahan a bit la in order to get a long lasting perfume haha.

So what kind of smells in a perfume do u like ? Maybe I can give better suggestions.

For something like I am King but longer lasting, i suggest u try YSL Live Jazz, Versace Pour Homme, Chanel Allure Homme Sport, Chanel Platinum Egoiste and Bulgari Aqua. All are pretty outstanding in the longevity department.

For something similar to Brit, try JPG Le Male, Thierry Mugler A*Men, Dior Homme, Prada Amber Pour Homme, Bulgari Black and Kenzo Power.

Btw, no matter how strong the perfume smells for the 30mins, it will eventually calm down as it progresses. A lot of guys don't understand that and keep complaining everything doesn't last (I was like that too). I have a few very linear fragrances and trust me after 2-3 hours they can get pretty overwhelming.

Thanks a bunch. Will check them out.

A little OT, and only if you don't mind answering, do you work in a perfume-related field or are you a perfume "connoisseur"?
*
Welcome Clavicus. Been a pleasure to help.

I don't work in a perfume related field. I won't consider myself a true connoisseur yet haha as my interest in perfumes only started 2 years ago. But I have a great interest in perfumes of all types.

Alright.

Both are very different and not very suitable for the office. While Black XS smells like strawberry jam, Le Male smells like spicy vanilla and plastic. But if u insist I say go with Black XS because Le Male will probably fill up the whole office even if u use only 1 spray.

ic...maybe i can use it only for outing n stick to dunhill and armani for office..btw are both long lasting? any other recommendation for office and smoker?
*
Le Male and black XS would be good for clubbing or a weekend trip to the mall...or anything casual really. Le Male is very long lasting and people around u will definitely smell it that's why it's not so good for office. Black XS is very strong too for the first 1-2 hours, after that it kind of gets somewhat subtle but still noticeable but not as strong as Le Male. Dunhill and Armani for the office should be perfect.

In the previous page, I already listed out a few good fragrances that are good for smokers..you should check that post out. Those perfumes should be suitable for the office too if u don't spray too much. However, those fragrances are more masculine and old fashioned compared to what u already own so it might not be to your taste.

Hi Jonny,

I am looking for something that smells not to heavy, mystery, comfortable and such, anything that comes near to these? A perfume for early 20s teenager what do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.
*
I think Kenzo Power, Bulgari Black and Paco Rabanne Black XS should suit you. Remember to try it on skin instead of paper.

YSL L'Homme will be great for you. I'll add Dior Homme and Gucci Pour Homme II as sueestions for u to try. Do remember to spray the perfume on skin instead of paper when u try it out.

thanks for you suggections.
erm... can i ask where is the best place to buy those perfumes in term of varieties and price?
*
I suggest u test these perfumes at Parkson Pavilion or Parkson KLCC. Metrojaya Midvalley and Robinsons The Gardens are also good places to test perfumes. Once u have pin pointed what u want then u can head to perfume retailers like Just Parfum, Perfume Jewel, Perfume Shoppe and etc to get the perfume u want. These shops offer discounts on average about RM30 off normal retail price. However, sometimes the stock at these shops are older but on some occasions I have noticed that stocks in these places can even be newer than at counters. So depends on your luck and on what perfume u r buying. Always look out for the small sticker indicating the manufactured date..can't always trust the sticker but it's better than nuthing.

There is always a risk of fakes at these places i guess but after buying about a dozen from them, none were fake. SASA is also a place where u can get perfumes at a cheaper price but the lights there are just too bright for comfort so i avoid going there. Prices are tightly controlled most of the time so there won't be a big difference between prices at Just Parfum and Perfume Jewel.

Also, those shops don't give any free gifts unlike the counters where u get free samples, bags and etc. So depends on your preference, free gifts or RM30 discount. The variety of perfumes do vary among these shops but still some brands like Hermes and Prada are only available at department store counters.

Common brands like CK and Armani can be obtained almost everywhere but if u r looking for the older more obscure perfumes, u might need to do some treasure hunting.

I tried it last weekend and IMHO it was very boring. Somewhat similar to CK Free but its one of those safe boring scents that everyone from a teenager to a old man will like. It will sell well. For that price I can get many more interesting unique scents. Just saying.

I own a bottle of L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme and I find it too sweet and floral for an aquatic scent. But it's much more unique compared to the new releases like CK Free and Davidoff Hot Water.

L'Eau Bleue D'Issey pour Homme and L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Eau FraƮche is quite nice too because they provide something a little more unique to the fresh/aquatic fragrance genre.

As Daymon mentioned YSL = Yves Saint Laurent

U can try YSL perfumes at Parkson KLCC, Parkson Pavilion, Robinsons and Sogo. There are a few other places but i'm not sure how big a range is available.

Perfume is very subjective. Try going to the counters to test or search this thread as I have given out perfume suggestions for almost every occasion, age and weather. Maybe after that u can post here if u need more help.

LOL, how bout Givenchy; zhee-von-shee haha!

@Zackry: Normally after you apply perfume, you should be the only person who can smell it or if another person is very close to you. If you are sitting a one place, and another person can smell your perfume few seats away that means you applied too much perfume.

Is that correct?  unsure.gif  blush.gif
*
Its not really right to advocate how much perfume a person should apply. I like wearing boxers, but I don't go around advocating that boxers are always better than briefs period. A lot of men magazines tell guys to apply no more than 2 sprays. I have applied 2 sprays b4 and by the time I go out 4 lunch I am wondering where my perfume I applied has gone.

I feel how much perfume a person applies depends on the situation and occasion. If u are going for an interview, use a light pleasant perfume rather than something tenacious like Kouros or Le Male. If u r heading to the clubs than go for something strong like A*Men or M7.

The most important rule is to apply the amount u r comfortable with because u r the one that paid for it.

any idea on unique scent which smells great?

I like your taste man ! It's good that u r trying to smell different from your friends.

For something sweet and really unique, try Dior Homme, YSL M7, YSL Opium and Thierry Mugler A*Men.

you can try going for more masculine scents like YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, Azzaro Pour Homme, Chanel Antaeus, Chanel Egoiste, Gucci Pour Homme and Guerlain Vetiver. These frags are the total opposite of fresh, citrus and aquatic. Normally older men wear those kind of scents but if u want to smell unique, u have to branch out a bit from the norm. I own all the above frags and they are classics really, the oldest one (Guerlain Vetiver) was released in 1961. It's a real pleasure wearing these classic masculines.

Do u like Le Male ?

Any luck that YSL can be found in Parkson 1U?

I did a visit to Parkson 1U this afternoon but they ran out of Bvlgari Black damn.
*
Sorry bro there's no YSL in Parkson 1U. YSL closed a few of their counters recently and they seemed to have run out of testers for some of their fragrances at most counters. The better places to try YSL frags would be Parkson KLCC, Parkson and Tangs and Pavilion, Sogo and Robinsons. My info may not be so good as the last time I was at a YSL counters was 2 weeks ago. So they might have stocked up some of the counters.

There's this shop called Just Parfum at 1U that has a few YSL frags for sale. But whether or not they have testers for those frags I'm not sure.

There are 40ml Bulgari Blacks at Tangs Pavilion. All other places I have checked only carry 75ml Bulgari Black. BB not cheap, 75ml retails between RM270-280. BB is quite hard to find sometimes even though there are many bulgari counters around. Sometimes u have to ask them for it and they will bring out the tester. If u do get BB get the one with the regular sprayer instead of the older sprayer with an on/off switch which spoils fast.

juz thinking 2 be special among my frens

still selling in the market?

i like le male so much but my gf n frens told me tat i smell so weird
a bit sad n juz can hug my le male during nitez cry.gif

i think i will giv kenzo power a try 1st
cos i prefer flowery smell
but fluer du male is a bit over 2 me
*
Released in 1961 but my bottle was made in 2008 haha. The oldest one i own is Chanel pour Monsieur (another great classic) which was released in 1955 and is still in production till today. Actually all the ones i suggested earlier are still in production.

Le Male weird haha..i got many more that smell weird/worse than Le Male. But I have to admit Le Male is bloody strong. I just bought a bottle 2 weeks ago and haven't worn it yet because need to find a suitable occasion because it's so strong.

Power would be a good place to start. Dior Homme is also flowery and designed by the same perfumer. In a way Dior Homme is a stronger, more flowery and more feminine brother of Power. Dior Homme was released 1st btw.

Agreed man even though I like strong pungent perfumes, fleur du male was way too unbearable even for me.
