hmm... i am not good in fabric stuff... which kind of fabric is recommended for a suit? any link or guide around so i can read up? or anyone can help out a bit?

will it be cheaper if i buy my own fabric and ask the tailor to make one for me? or both fabric and service is from the tailor?

I think you're just being lazy. How hard is it to google or look back on previous posts? The search button is there for a reason.

if i was at home, i am sure i can google it and ask bout the fabric details here if i need help choosing one...
anyway thanks for reminding me the search button n google ^^ i always use them but not when my connection is like this ^^

i think you should start off by reading some info on the first post, and go around window shopping to take a look at some suits.. looks like you're rushing into getting a custom suit with no idea about a single thing..

Why not? Maybe the guy there doesn't know the world has moved on, and makes fully canvassed stuff with tons of handwork for small change.

^^ coz one of my fren check those tailors already when he wanted to make one for his job and end up getting them done in kl ^^ so i think theres a reason to get them done in kl rather than mentakab ^^

something like that? lol.. that guy looks great doing it.. can you pull it off as well as he does? i'd rather stay away from wearing a black jacket and shorts..

the grey vest combo should be fine..

Aick! I'll get to use my new suit in about three weeks time in an interview. I hope I make more of an impression than my suit does.

In two weeks time I'll be emcee'ing a little event and will wear it too.

now u know how i feel when i send like 5 shirts at once lol.. the best thing i like about them is that i can always get it altered again if im not happy with the result and they dont give the customers a frustrated face.. there are some places which will not "re-alter" them and give excuses like "thats what you ask for what"..

I just got back my Shirt i brought to Ruth's for alteration!

It was pretty horrifying when i reached there, a foreigner(kuai lou and its a she) was shouting at the staff that she was very upset with the alteration 1st of all she wanted the skirt to be shorter

Attached Image

And Ruth cut the whole Gold color beneath and she was furious because she liked the gold color beneath the skirt then the staff asked her to try it on for measurements and see how they could help her later on and then the measurements were all wrong it was too small for her and all the foul languages came out it was indeed a horrible sight!

I remember telling her that this shirt is very expensive and take good care of it and all she did was nodding her head, she didnt look serious at all when i gave her instructions

The shirt that i took for alteration cost me a bomb and i didn't want it to end up like the Sari that the kuai lou went and alter

But everything ended well after looking at it and i presonally went and tried it on.

Just a random thought.

Do you think if Ruth will replace another shirt if it cost above thousands.

I see alteration as a very dangerous business as mistakes do happen all the time!

How to work with Ah Loke to get optimal suit

MEASUREMENT

1. Tell him you want it "very waisted", with "skirt flare". "Waisted" and "flare" are words he understands.

2. High gorge. If you do not specify a high gorge you get a low gorge.

3. Very, very high armholes

4. "Somewhat slanting pockets". "Somewhat" is important else you get radically slanting ones.

5. Slanting shoulders. Otherwise you get horizontal shoulders.

6. Clean, clean back. He doesn't pay the back much attention and you will have to insist on this.

7. Ask for lapel padding. If not, you get a single machine stitched line on the underside of lapel.

8. Open quarters. Specify how open.

9. Low button stance. He likes the button high, and he will fight you if you want them lower. Do not give in.

FIRST FITTING

10. Wear your best fitting shirt to the fitting. Wear dress shoes.

11. Tell him to pin both sleeve lengths individually.

12. Get him to pin the back clean

13. Get the sleeve rotation right. He will resist. If it isn't right, insist they be rotated.

14. Check that the sleeve has enough fullness in the elbow.

15. Specify placement of cuff buttons. He places them very near the edge of cuff by default.

16. Insist on working cuffs that actually can be rolled up.

17. Make sure no panels are pulling.

18. Tell him you want a generous lapel roll

SECOND FITTING

19. He will be reluctant to give you a second fitting. He says one will do perfectly. Be an immovable object. Stand your ground.

20. Check that all issues during first fitting were addressed.

21. Check back for fit.

22. Tell him to use fine silk embroidery thread for buttonholes, not hemp.

23. Reconfirm button placements. This is your last chance.

24. Tell him again you want a generous lapel roll.

COLLECTION

25. If it's good, beam, smile, look enthusiastic.

25. Tell him you'll wear it a while to break it in then might have him do alterations.
