Are you planning on playing lead? Then practise the scales... as kepalakeras said, minor and major, but don't forget to expand to other modes (minor and major are just two modes)

TS, I'd suggest you to learn scales via songs. More fun

IMO, before u start practising on scales and chords, focus more on picking instead. with a proper picking technique, u can do lots of cool stuff smile.gif

Learning scales might be boring, but it could be useful for your finger. nod.gif

Yea, just get an online metronome and go crazy with scales and all! smile.gif

But yeah, don't just limit yourself to scales. Try playing some hard songs and all, thats the main way you will be able to nail down new and hard techniques.
