If owner dont know whether the iphone is US or SG Set , can we identify the iphone from which country?
*
Every phone has its own distinct model number. You can check the model number under settings > general > about.
Before meeting up buyer ask him to provide you the model number. Later you just google up the model number. From there you can identify the set is from where.

sorry if im asking a question that has been brought up alot of times, newbie here, anyway heres the question

if i purchase an iphone 3gs in US. will i be able to use it here?..it is $399 from apple store right ?...or does that price only comes with sim locked to at&t ?..will i be able to unlock it here?...do they sell unlocked iphones already over there , if so does anybody can tell me whats the price ?...thanks in advance for the help guys.
*
Each and every phone from US are locked to AT&T. You are only able to use it over here after you had software unlock it. About the price im not quite sure, perhaps you should go there and ask them directly. And i dont think they sell unlock phone there.

But always remember if u use unlock software and a new software comes out u need unlocked again.
*
yes, if you upgrade the firmware then you will need to unlock it again..
that's the problem with oversea set iPhone..
Some people dont mind to not upgrade their firmware, if you care about this..
Why dont spend few more hundred bucks to get local set?

of course oversea set is much cheaper, that's why many people dont mind getting oversea set smile.gif

meaning?..i need to update/ unlocked for new firmware , then only i can download new apps ?...firmware update is it similar to jailbreaking ?..unlocking is sim unlock right ?...sorry..newbie here..im not sure where else to ask..thanks for u guys helps...i appreciate it.
*
Yes, you need to rejailbreak and re-unlock if you wanna update to latest version (only if yours is locked set).
Firmware update & jailbreaking is completely different thing. Google more on jailbreaking. You will know more thru reading.
A more accurate name for unlock sim via software is software unlock.

I'll be going to the US at the end of this month, and I'm planning to get an iPhone 4 for my wife and I. However, I've heard the ones sold in the US is locked to AT&T. How then do I bring it back to Malaysia and have it working with any of our local telcos? Please advice... :$

Added on July 11, 2010, 10:39 amI checked, I can only use it if I software unlock it, right? Is it unlocks from geohot? Also, what about Singapore? Unlocked? When are they gonna get the iPhone 4s?
*
Yea, you have to software unlock it before it can be use in Malaysia. The price for i4 in SG is somehow similar to price in MY. Further, SG havent launch i4 yet (will be launching within this month) , so if you were to get it in SG then i would suggest you to wait for Maxis. biggrin.gif

I would like to ask whether it's worth it to buy a locked UK 3GS set iphone, i done some research in this thread regarding the case but most of the posts are from 2009,so i'm not quite sure it is updated.

Is it possible now, to unlock and jailbreak iphone 3GS UK set ?
*
Its only worth buying if unlock is available. Possible only unlock any firmware on 3.1.3 or below.

Yea, new out of box for 3gs should be 3.1.3. Unless you buy 2nd hand ones (previous owner upgraded it manually).
