wat i don like about machine is they pick customer. If u tell them u want to see see only they will walk away unlike mac city.
*
isnt by saying i wanna see see you are basically telling the sales person to give you some breather till you need them later on? of course maccity fellers wont leave you alone, cause their shop so small, and many sales person there and they have to follow the customer around if not another sales person will get the sales. with the amount of free gift maccity is giving i bet the sales person commission is so low they have to be more aggressive and target every single customer eventhough they are not buying, that gives me the creeps if they dont give the space to see see

Well, the new promotions are out. 4 GB of ram if you purchase applecare with your macbook http://www.machines.com.my/Jan_Promo_09.php

Added on January 7, 2009, 5:54 pmman, Macbook 2.4 ghz + apple care -- very expensive. I don't know if that is worth it for the extra 2 gig of ram, does it make much of a difference?
*
think about it,4799 + 849 = 5648, use ur cc for 12 months, its only 470.67 a month as machine offers 12 months 0% interest free payment with no extra credit card charges. and you getting ram upgrade worth RM798. thats not to bad. if im not mistaken they have merchants with maybank, cimb, citibank, hsbc and AM.

The thing is -- do I really need the 4 GB of ram, is it that useful? I'm only going to be the occasional heavy user, e.g. swapping to vista sometimes to play some games.  And isn't mac city giving it out for free anyway without having to buy the apple protection plan? I have a first gen macbook and I didn't buy APP --its still working fine!
*
If yer running vista, then 4Gb makes a huge difference. well put the app in this way,i dun have life insurance but i am still getting along fine but whether or not(touch wood) tmrow is a bright and sunny day is a whole different question, better be safe then sorry?

*
they dont have any promo at the moment,i think the december promo really made them lose a lot of profit, now they might be thinking of not being reckless with promos.

What I heard is the Dec promotion from MacCity is backed up by Apple which means the free gifts are given by Apple. I am not sure how true that is..
*
eh cmon maccity is just authorized reseller,if apple were to do that then the premium resellers like epi, machines and macstudio will lose out, apple promo for december was just the belkin messenger bag, neoprene sleeve case, capdase keyboard protector and ibass speaker. after that items ran out all the reseller forked out the money to attract customers by giving out their own promo. Maccity was really losing out on each item sold with all the promos they were dishing out, profit from macs are never alot at most also a few hundreds only, the same with any other iT stuff.

u'r right brother, the economic downturn seems bad...
bonus slashes/ increment freeze where Apple products still remained sky high biggrin.gif

Hope they come out better offer in 2 weeks time! Who knows u get 1 big "red packet" from your parents smile.gif
*
ur statement dont u think the apple resellers face the same thing? by asking them deals and freebies, isnt that not helping the situation they are in aswell? imagine the salesmen salary being cut just because all of us want lots os free gifts plus discounts during this economic downturn, like i said before apple product not much profit especially it stuffs. Like the Star has said before we malaysians are mega sales people, our buying rate is still high even though all around the world there is an economic downturn, even now i dont see the queue at LV shops decreasing.

We have following facilities of Ezypay Scheme (Instalment Plan) :

1. HSBC - 5%
2. Maybank - 4%
3. Ambank - 5 %
4. OCBC - 4%
5. HLBB - 4%

There will be a surcharges mentioned as above (depend on which bank)
on promotion product.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my reply from mac city.

Is Machine also having the 4% or 5% charges like the Above?
I have to reconsider to take installment plan or go for lower end model if the charges will costing RM300 such high price.
*

Maybank- 0%
HSBC - 0%
AM - 0%
CITIBANK - 0%
CIMB - 0%

@Globetrotter15

Maybe those people who asking for discounts also experiencing salary cut?
*
If you could afford a mac i think ur financial is sound, theres no pay cut there, dont tell me forrumers here who could easily afford a macbook pro or macbook has monetary problems, when theres a need every other financial woes fades off from your mind. For example if you wanna get an LV bag,u'll just get it and i dont see anyone asking LV for freebies or discounts? of course when you do that jatuh standard. When you buy a mac,the mac should be your goal, the freebies shouldnt determine the sale,if u ask freebies and price cuts peecees can offer you that.

QUOTE(catpowder @ Jan 14 2009, 01:00 AM)
my friend who shopped in Machines (the sunway pyramid branch) had a bad experience. it was blatant customer rip off and false advertising.

around the PC Fair time, Machines advertised that every alu macbook purchased would receive a 'free 2GB RAM' upgrade. obviously you would think they would add a 2GB RAM into the machine - totalling it to 4GB (the macbook comes with 2GB).

when my friend checked her macbook info back home, to her surprise her machine totalled up to only 3GBs of RAM... she then realised to her dismay that the Machines staff took out a 1GB memory that was pre-installed in the macbook, and put in the 'promised/as advertised' 2GB. the 1GB was not returned back to her.

she called asking for it back but Machines gave all sorts of silly rude reasons - that the 1GB 'original apple RAM' is now theirs... this did not mirror the information given in the advertising - or the ad was just misleading. fortunately after another angry phonecall, they gave in and decided to give back the 1GB... but as far as I know her macbook is still 3GB, with an extra 1GB laying around her house.

forgive me if i am confusing... typing this from memory and not first hand account, but i think that is mostly what happened.

Machines staff are a sly bunch, it seems. just make sure when you get your computer, check the specs to make sure it tallys with the promotion... etc. very 'mah fan' if kena con like my friend shakehead.gif
*
i think we have to know what we are buying before proceeding with the purchase, cmon all advertising are meant to give you half truth and half exaggeration. If you know apple products you should know that all their machines except for the entry level come with matched memory configuration. So the macbook come with 1x1GB,and machines said 2GB additional Ram right? that means they gave you a single piece of 2Gb replacing 1Gb inside the macbook, unless the machine miraculously had 3 slots that you can put the extra piece of 1GB in but thats not the case, next time ask the sales person properly, just relying on advertisement will not end up sop good. Even every time i see kfc ads the chicken and the burger look so good and huge but thats not the case in KFC outlets i cant say KFC is deceitful can i?

I didn't have the problem in MacCity. I even have the remaining 2x1GB RAM returned to me..
by the way.. anybody interested to purchase 2x1GB DDR3 RAM? tongue.gif hehee..
*
lol who wanna buy 1x1Gb even the stock MB comes with 1x1Gb,pretty useless unless u wanna use it for paper weight. THe resellers should specify whether its additional ram or ram upgrade which requires a trade in of stock ram, customers should ask the salesperson properly or not buyer remorse will happen.

i hope u all wont mind me asking this question tho...

wuts the big deal of ram types in a notebook? i used to take into account what ram chip im buying (d43, tccd, bh5, those stuff) when i was into overclocking my desktop. but now that im running a notebook, i dun see the need for performance rams (not going to overclock a notebook) tongue.gif. from my exp, CL times is too small to justify any price difference, but i could be wrong.

hope someone would enlighten me on the subject smile.gif thank you
*
CL times makes a difference, thats why im using the mushkin EB series hehe. But well the KTAs have a proven track record and is quite similar with the Hynix and samsung module used by apple,if a reseller is using that, why not buy from them?

Most importantly, Machines able to use CC with 0% installment plan.
This to prevent spending huge lump of money that make u heart pain biggrin.gif

Machines and Mac City is basically the same...if u do your homework (here/Macrumors) then it should be alright for any shops..

The staff there should have the basic knowledge of how to operate the Mac OSX and some configuration parts...other than that, is based on individual interest on learning and promoting the Mac's to customer biggrin.gif
*
actually both of them are very different, machines have 7 outlets and growing they are an APR and Maccity is just a AR,the reason why Machines can give 0% installment along with no charges using CC is because they are paying for your bank charges as they realize most people are from the middle class income group and they also give our rebate points for anything you buy,Maccity charges you extra cause they cant afford to pay on your behalf. If lets say one of the machines store is out of stock of a certain item you are looking for you could ask them to reserve the item in on of their other stores. I cant think of any other store that thinks of your wallet first

Basically, i have the cash of rm7k i also willing to swipe CC for extra CC points hehe if they have installment plan too then that’s great idea too...

Where i can allocate my funds easily without over spending and save some for rainy days~biggrin.gif

but as i know Machines rebate point system only consists of rm5 = 1 point?
*
its 1point = RM1 ,If you are new to mac you can also join their workshops for free, they think of educating you also machines offers almost what an apple store offers,a community gathering place to exchange ideas.
