but no discount for ipod.

ACPP got discount cause its an auto enroll program, cut cost etc etc its a package. of course you cant expect people to give you discount for everything,at the end of the day its their profit thats diminishing right?

i strongly think that government pay for the discount..
u see, the agreement is..one year you can only buy ONE mac, but unlimited ipod.
ipod no discount, mainly because it is not an eductional tools.
computers are educational tools.

government always give discounts for something related to education.
im from public UNI, and there's original windows vista ultimate selling at half the original price.
and microsoft office too.
but there is a red sticker on the box..got book picture on it. it writes there,
"ACADEMIC PRICE, not for use in commercial environment"

when you buy books also your parents can get income tax waive. if you are working, that you'll get the discount lah.

thats why i think its the government who pay for the discount. but i dont say it's a "yes" . dont get me wrong.
*
err bro i think you got confused between the government subsidies and apple store discount. Err i can vouch that this is apple's effort to lend a hand to the students, and its available to all places that has an apple online or apple store, the reason why is only one mac is because people can get greedy and buy a few macs under edu price even though they are not students and has nothing to do with the government haha. Seriously the only thing that they did is not tax computer items.

Oh.... thanks for the info... so what you guys think... just now i call Epicentre pavilion and they told me buy a ipod touch they will give me a wallplug for free... but it's 3rd party lar... and the machines will have 5% rebate on the next purchase... which 1 is more worth ah? normally 3rd party wall plug how much ah?
*
see which you want lar.the rebate you can use to buy anything in the shop. And if you keep on buying stuff in machines can get the rebates, accessories 10%.ipod 5% and macs and softwares 2%,if they have member preview sale they'll call u lah. On the other hand u see whether the wall plug is useful or not, make sure its a good one(Belkin or Griffin preferably)

free cheap gifts vs discount, haha the debate will never end. I'd choose the latter as im a student, and enjoy the benefits of being one.

AFAIK its still 849 in online store? How do they rip you off? Unless you are talking about the auto enroll option that is cheaper? Like i say both online store and apple reseller give 2 different shopping options.

But that's just IT isn't it. Salespeople just fail to understand that their job is to ASSIST people who enter the store.

Instead they see people in the store as the source of their sales commission. And those who do not provide said commission are ignored. Its a failure to see the big picture, an emphasis on the short term profit versus long term gain.
*
Theres also quite of number of people who dont want sales people to breath down their necks. Even if the sales person comes and offers assistance they'll be shunned. Like i say a sales person sees hundreds of customers but the customer only sees 1 or 2 sales person but we always place the blame on the sales person, customer service is prudent but most of us abuse it to a certain degree but we still blame the sales person for it. It works both ways i guess.

How difficult is it to say "hello, if you need me I'm here to help" with a smile then allow the shopper some personal space?

Instead what you normally get is a "Cans I helps you?" followed by look that says "If you don't want to buy, you might as well leave now".
*
I think it varies from one store to the other, those that i have seen welcome me to the store and give me the freedom to browse around the store, they always maintain a safe distance, some chivalry is nice but too much of it will make u wonder if its merely for sales or its just being nice.

On Dec 5 (Friday), I called several Machines outlet for the new MBA or MBP, but they said, they only have MB. They cannot tell when they can get the new MBP/MBA.
Thus, I bought the MBP at Mac Studio on Dec 6 (Sat).
Today, I saw the new advert saying that they have Christmas deals for the MB and MBP (from Dec. 7 onwards).
Damn!! I have a Machines Membership but I bought the MBP one day earlier at Mac Studio.

The Machines rep should have told me about the Christmas Deals when i called them on Dec. 5.... !!

And furthermore... I have Amex Card.... ! *sigh*
*
hmm,i dont think they'd know cause it was only announced in the papers on the 7th as its a promo by Apple not Machines.

nimrod - Its not the freebies that i really missed (since I got some freebies from Mac Studio too)... but its more regarding using Machines to get the points for rebate (I'm a member).
Its worth RM 194 !! Arrghhh!! I can buy more accessories later with this savings...

What I am frustrated is that nobody can give me a hint that there is a promotion on 7th December during my call on the 5th Dec....*sigh* ....
*
err cmon,if they are not sure about the promo why shud they tell u? it was kept in wraps because a few of the resellers i went to said theres no promo for now and again edoras, machines membership clearly states theres no membership rebate points for promo items, its either u take the freebies or rebate, you cant be greedy and have both can u now?

KLmurf,
I can't quite figure out what would you want to be "convinced" to part RM1100?

One of the worse places to ask this is in the shop as the sales person would have to think on his feet and shoot straight from the hip, and I’m guessing “large screen size and faster processor” would be in one of replies given. You need to substantiate yourself if buying a 20" or 24" iMac would fill your needs in the next 3-4 years (the average lifespan of a computer)

Not sure about the tax rebate but you can only claim a purchase every 3 years, unless someone in family in purchasing one next year as well, the choice of waiting for a beef up iMac next year is far more beneficial – more beef for your bucks! Unless you will be dumping the iMac within a year or so… just wait for the new iMac…. Its only less than a month away!
*
thats providing if the new imac is one month away, probably just the mac pro refresh

I want to go a little off topic here...anybody have any experience with Epicenter before? I went to the PC Fair today and saw their boot. Price for the acessaries was quite good,  though, no discount on iMac or MacBook or others... They  just bundle it with free gift and free RAM upgrade... Anybody willing to share?
*
first thing apple is not like pc,mac computers no discount its been like this for a very long time. gifts and ram are good enough, they are already losing margin.

you do realize that pc fair is more of a PC affair than a mac one? whats the point of renting a big booth but not many people buying from you? you lose more money in that way.

i just bought my macbook aluminium 2.0 at machine just now..
at garden..
the promotion was a free 2g ram n a sleeve case n keyboard protector..
unfortunately the keyboard protector was out of stock..
or is it?
i wanna ask those who recently bought ur macbook there..
do u get back the 1g ram after u ask the machine assistant to change the ram in ur mb? coz he mention that the promotion says for them to take the 1g ram..
is it? i might thinking that he stole it... maybe...
*
yeah they wrote there additional,so they take back the one gig,not many people realize that the macbook 2.4GHz,2.0GHz and the macbook Pro 2.4GHz comes with 1x1GB configuration as it has 2 slots inside. I think machines did specify all the promo items is while stock last, too bad for you mate.

haha nolah every store has its ups and down,if you compare both 1u machines and 1u maccity, machines has only about 4 staffs to jaga 3000SQF compared to maccity which is roughly about 900SQF which has about 5 sales person? of course everytime you enter they'll notice and come to your aid but it depends alsolah, whenever i go there they dont layan coz to them im just a teenager who is window shopping.

Yeah i know what u mean bro nimrod... But one thing good about the staff of Mac City is that they really take the trouble to help ur queries ya...

I was with my gf at MC a couple of weeks back and we were looking at those speaker systems for the iPod... We saw one unit that we liked (in a box, no display) and asked whether there is a demo unit that they can show us... The salesperson there really opened up the box and connected the unit to the powersupply so that i can test an iPod for the sound, even though we did not purchase the speakers... thumbup.gif
*
i see,i think epic, machines and other resellers dont mind us testing stocks in box but sometimes i see customers asking to open up 10boxes but end up not buying anything, kesian the sales person.
