Re: Not able to register a free account at itunes store (with screen shots)
Posted: Dec 1, 2008 2:47 PM in response to: kagami
I emailed them too and got a helpful one. well kinda, she explained the free account using the app store thing. but I still didnt get an account. unless someone can find a country with only an app store.
Me: Hi, I've been trying to get an iTunes account but I don't have a creditcard, nor an iTunes gift card. When I select payment option "none" it says "You did not complete the entire form. Please enter your credit card number. The credit card expiration date you entered ha already passed. Please enter a valid expiration date."
I am able to fill in the entire form although it says that. I've been trying to create an account for a couple days and it continues to tell me that. Is there another way that I can create a account without using a credit card or gift card?
thank you!

Apple: Hello Sam,
I understand that you would like to join our family here at the iTunes Store, but that you did not want to use a credit card or a gift card. I can certainly appreciate how eager you must be to know how to go about getting yourself set up with an account. My name is Ashley and I would be more than happy to give you a hand with this today.
I'm so glad you are interested in the iTunes Store. You can use any of the following payment methods to pay for your iTunes Store purchases. Please note up front, however, that prepaid Gift Cards from Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover may be rejected if you try to add them to your account.
UNITED STATES
Visa
MasterCard
American Express
Discover
PayPal
You can purchase iTunes Gift Cards at many retailers in your area and also at any Apple Store:

You will need to use one of the payment methods mentioned above in order to create an account.
I hope that the information that I have provided has been helpful for you, Sam. But if you need anything else, just let me know and I will take care of it. It has been my pleasure assisting you today. Please have yourself a wonderful day.
With Warm Regards,
Ashley

Me: From this letter, I understand that you said that I do need a credit card or a gift card in order to sign up with iTunes and create an iTunes account but on the Apple website, it tells me that I can create an iTunes account without a credit card or gift card. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534) I was able to follow all the steps until step 10. When I slect "none" and put in my Name, Address, etc., It still asks me for my credit card number and expiration date and tells me this:
"You did not complete the entire form. Please enter your credit card number. The credit card expiration date you entered ha already passed. Please enter a valid expiration date."
I'm not sure, but there might be something wrong with iTunes for not allowing me to create the account and still asking me for a credit card after selecting "None" as the payment option.
Sincerely,
-sam
apple: Hi Sam,
Ashley, here from the iTunes Store. I see that you were looking at this article for creating an account without a payment method through the App Store. I can imagine how anxious you are to know why you are still getting the prompt to add a credit card or gift card. It would be my pleasure to assist you further.
The reason that this article was not successful fin helping to create an account is that this article is for customer residing in countries that do not have the iTunes Store, and just have the App Store.
To be able to create an account, there will be a payment method required.
I hope that I have been able to further clarify this issue for you, Sam. should there be anything else that you would like to bring to my attention, I am just an email away. I wish you all the best. Please take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
With Warm Regards,
Ashley
