Hi guys!

The method to create itunes account as written in iphone for dummies no longer works, it seems that after the first step, the 2nd step even after you select none for credit card, itunes will still demand for the credit card.

Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Seriously, I don't see whats wrong with opening a new, more SPECIFIC thread to help certain special problems. Rather than cramming EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN PROBLEM in ONE MISERABLE THREAD where practically NO ONE will EVER pay attention to!

@TS: Yes i realized this is a problem recently as well. Especially for those who just got into the iphone/itouch scene and would like to get those free apps off appstore(or other "special" reasons... google it yourself)

Fortunately, i have the solution for those who are using it for "special" reasons. Don't ask me how "special" it is though. Theres always google for that.

@davidgary

Lol, I was not looking for a solution to download apps, I need to make an itunes account for my friend. So the temporary solution will not be enough. As for the "special" method, I still don't really get the "hidden meaning" xD

@frequency
Interesting, can you elaborate your method? I logged off obviously.

After clicking redeem you need the iTunes gift card not Apple gift card. Apple gift card cannot redeem/use in iTunes.

Question: where to find 1?

Before thread closed, I agree too. People here like to treat this as their own house, just because they come here often. When someone buy a new cupboard, they are gonna back "IS THAT NECESSARY!?" without thinking that the house belongs to everyone.

I don't read every single post in the iPhone dummies. If the problem were to post in that thread, I won't know about it. So its good to know that the old method doesn't work anymore. Thanks TS.

@grunge, fx2800 and Ryuuga

We are not stopping anyone here opening new threads to ask for answers or troubleshoot problems faced given that they read the pinned threads first which most answers can be found on first post of the pinned threads.

If solutions not found either in the pinned threads, then proceed to ask in the proper thread or open new thread if it's necessary.

Given that this forum is an open forum, anyone can open new threads. I would like to suggest that you guys take sometime answering noobs Q's and help out in this forum whenever you can. Thus, i don't see you guys around much as i'm always online here. Do hope to see you guys active in this forum do suggest ways to improve this forum as you guys feels that this is forum is a place you tread as home.

Cheers

Just to chip in on the comments on opening new threads. I personally don't find anything wrong with it but you have to realise that each time you open a new thread on an existing topic, you are making it more difficult for forumers to search for what they want.

For example, if a different person comes in to ask "How do I open an iTunes account" every day for 30 days and opens up a new thread for it each time, by the end of the month we will have 30 threads on that problem with no guarantee which thread has the right solutions. So when a forumer comes in wanting to know how to open an iTunes account and he/she actually knows how to use the search function effectively, he/she is going to end up with a barrage of results. Worse thing is that every thread has a slightly different type of topic header making it even more difficult.

If you've taken the time to read the pinned threads, you would have noticed that davidgary73 has taken the time and effort to organise the information in this iPhone forum to tackle that problem. He takes the best threads that will answer common questions and lists it. So if I want to look up on "How to open an iTunes account", I can just browse through the Dummies Guide like a directory and find only the best threads that provide the best working solution. And believe me, the Dummies Guide is VERY well updated on a daily basis by davidgary.

So wouldn't it make sense to discuss the "How to open an iTunes account" on the best "How to open an iTunes account" thread there is rather than opening up a new topic? It would help centralise the information or else davidgary may have to list 5-6 best solution threads for each problem. I would completely support it though if anyone actually takes the initiative to create a better quality thread to replace any of what is listed on the Dummies Guide.

That being said though, the system currently in place is not perfect. This particular thread for instance is valid because in the Dummies Guide listings, the solution for this problem (iTunes account) is provided in the form of pdf documents and also displayed in text rather than being linked to an existing discussion. This means there is no way to discuss newer developments to the problem/solution other than in the Dummies Guide thread itself or by opening a new thread. As grunge states though, it is not practical to discuss it in the Dummies Guide thread because there is no organisation of information. The best choice was to create a new thread for discussion as has been done.

This is a very long winded post. Hah and in the wrong thread too. tongue.gif I apologise but I feel it is important to discuss the usability issue of the iPhone forums. If you have any views to contribute or just wish to voice out your concerns regarding this, do PM me to let me know there is a demand for discussion and I will open a new thread relevant to the matter. Sorry again for OT-ing this thread. Cheers.
