4830 and 4850 looks good. But 4870's hfs looks like the reference.. Or probably they only changed the 4830 and 4850 because it was using only single slot at reference? where else the 4870 was already a dual slot cooler at reference.

hi celciuz, saw your sig and u are using Gainward 4850 GS with LCD with native resolution 1920x1080. i was thinking to get gainward 4850 GS too and also planning an upgrade from 19" to 24"(1920x1080). what worried me is that i scared the GC can't play games smoothly on the 1920x1080. Any 2 cents from you? notworthy.gif

Well, so far gaming on 1920x1080 has been fine for me (or at least much much better than what I've expected). So far so good. But I didn't play Crysis nor Warhead on this monitor. Was on 1280x1024 back then. So far I've played stuffs like COD5, RA3, NFS Undercover and L4D. These are my current playing games anyways, they all work fine at everything maxed out.

I didn't enable AA on RA3 though, but my eyes can't see the difference when gaming on this 1920x1080 21.5" anyways.

4850GS will definitely crawl on Crysis/Warhead at that kinda resolution. I didn't play FC3 on this monitor as well.. Can't tell about how it performs for that game. But if you want to game Crysis/Warhead a lot then probably 4870 would be a better choice.

ATi announced some price cut for 4870 recently right? Maybe it'll be cheaper than it is now soon biggrin.gif.

Quad CFx of 4850? @@. 2nd and 3rd card seems to close, wonder how would the heat generation be like.

If you're not really into very hardcore overclocking, you can try looking for those non reference models. They do have decent HSF slapped on already which should be sufficient if you don't do much OCing.

Palit/Gainward's 4870 seems alright though.

LOL, probably the driver isn't quite there yet. Things is gonna change once Nvidia properly "tweak" their drivers for benchmarks.

L4D is easy to run man. My 4850GS can take on 1920x1080 with everything maxed out. No lag or whatsoever biggrin.gif.

Driver better to get the latest from ATI's website smile.gif. Doesn't really matter if you have the driver CD or not.

9.x aren't even official as for now. There isn't even a "leaked beta" around yet. Unless you can show me where can you download the official 9.x driver... 8.12 is still the current driver for now.

guys, im using gigabyte HD 4850 + reference cooling.  I realized that it's constantly running at 500mhz clock 750mhz mem. I also read about it's because of power play. Im on vista, so how do i get rid of this power play and get my card running at it's own default speed? thanks!! biggrin.gif
*
If not mistaken, those are set within the BIOS itself. You will need to flash it in order to change it. Anyways, why change? It'll run at max speed when the GC is loaded up. Lower clock = lower power consumption and lesser heat generation when not in use.

Err, the speed should go back at the max after load is detected on the card..

user posted image

Mine even with slight load when loading the game already went back to 700mhz on the core.

Corsair VX550 is pretty nice IMO. Single rail 12v. If you want a CM, probably get the Realpower 550W then.
