I guess the only solution is to post your rig specs and your experience (and tell them people with your specs have this problem) here.

QUOTE(kerollowyat @ Jan 30 2009, 06:12 PM) The feedbacks are really confusing. Some says good, some not. Can you give us a load temperature instead? Malaysia is a hot country mah.... Anyway, reviewers got their idle to 60C.I just got problem when playing Prince of Persia. Will try the new driver, and hopefully everything's great. Just plan to install Vista 64 to utilize more 4G RAM, but ATI card seems have problem with this kind of setup I just switched from 9600GT to HD4870. I really like it. Not only the card much faster (off course la), I feel the color more vibrant. Great image quality However, the card temp at idle is close to 70 Not sure if this is normal or what is causing the problem (if it is any problem) http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-4870-review--asus/5 and the load to 90C.. which is normal QUOTE(kerollowyat @ Jan 30 2009, 06:12 PM) I just switched from 9600GT to HD4870. Kudos to ATi for having the default colours right This post has been edited by blindbox: Jan 30 2009, 07:16 PM |

QUOTE(kerollowyat @ Jan 31 2009, 01:16 AM) @blindbox Fan at work I guess, they were using old drivers after all, that review. The load temp is around 75C. Weird huh? I'm not worried much about the card temp. I'm worried about the mobo or HDs. QUOTE(pikacu @ Jan 31 2009, 01:42 AM) Foken.......! Taking naming schemes to the limit. Next thing you know, you see 4999. What I'd say is bull ATi Radeon HD4995 X2 comes with RV790 : http://forums.vr-zone.com/showthread.php?p...664#post6359664 This post has been edited by blindbox: Jan 31 2009, 01:53 AM |

Yeah, it's specialised. That's the bad thing about DXVA. All you can do is wait for OpenCL if you want to make a really cheap HTPC.

QUOTE(pikacu @ Feb 1 2009, 01:15 AM) 9.1 have alot of bug fixes, but got some performance boost compared to 8.12 Hmm... xbitlabs did a review on 9.1. The performance is quite the same with 8.12hotfix. Plus, wasn't AVIVO rocking on 9.1, from what you said but if you are using 8.12hotfix, stay with it, totally outperform 8.12 and 9.1 |

QUOTE(celciuz @ Feb 1 2009, 11:02 PM) My games started closing all of a suddenly when using 9.1 (I remember it didn't happen with 8.12) But I reformatted my computer when installing 9.1 though.. Driver issue? The game just closes itself out of no where without any errors. What OS? For example, games using dx9 for me close completely if I don't update directx to the latest version. So try updating your directx(after installing vista sp1), which should be found at microsoft's website easily, or found by using windows update.Try this http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/info.as...fdxwebsetup.exe |

I got a request for all holders of Sapphire 4870 1 GB Toxic users. Can you install Rivatuner and try this out? http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=217002
Tell me if the software voltmod works. If software voltmod works, then I'm getting it. The Palit Radeon HD 4870 1GB SONIC/GS doesn't work with the software voltmod, as they use an analong VRM, which sucks. I'm planning to try and get to 900 MHz(yeah I'm crazy). Oh and, if it isn't taking too much, pm me as well. This post has been edited by blindbox: Feb 8 2009, 02:30 PM |

QUOTE(jeromeccm @ Feb 13 2009, 12:54 AM) you tried cf before? http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticl...071&articID=635Added on February 13, 2009, 12:56 am good thermal paste is very important because of the heat transmission compound. better quality, better the transmission of heat to the heatsink. Also must apply uniformly on the touching surface and shiny clean surface before applying the paste .. This is my experience. good luck.. No, it's better to put it on the middle and let the heatsink do the compressing. This post has been edited by blindbox: Feb 13 2009, 10:42 AM |

Well.... I don't think you need to switch to ATI when you have that above 6k rig. If you got the money, just slam in another GTX 280.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforc...295,2123-4.html 4-way crossfire would be better if there weren't any cpu bottlenecks btw (and better driver optimisation, don't expect any, this is an architectural problem). Expect better things when Lucid Hydra starts well. There were notices(hard evidences, try finding it again on XS) before that ati's next generation cards will use that. QUOTE(pikacu @ Feb 14 2009, 01:53 PM) AMD To Launch Radeon HD 4890 "RV790" In April: http://vr-zone.com/articles/amd-to-launch-...8.html?doc=6578 That's sick OMFG, to compete against GTX285 Although the price IS cheap, I won't wait and still buy a 4870. Those are some crazy prices though. 4890x2 anyone? This post has been edited by blindbox: Feb 15 2009, 10:59 AM |
