i dun quite get y ATI set such high vcore for 4870 (1.203)

i use ATT to downclock & down vcore to 1.083, i'll set tit bck to default when gaming.
but yesterday, i 4got to adjust the vcore to default, i went on playing 15 hours (yes, 15 straight hours) of RA3 uprising without problem, only driver crash couple of time.

Now my idle is 50... which i think is kind of high... any recommendation ?
*

it looks to me like a dusty golden sample, clean it up la bro.

GPU threshold temperature is very high, >100c
initially, wen 4870 release, it load @ 95c.

Cos i saw review from t-rad they can lower it down to 35c for idle... so i tot the GS custom fan is not enough for best performance...
Didnt know that it is suppose to be 75c when idle for normal ver... thz for the advice...

Would 35c be better performance ?
*
lower temperature wont giv u better performance.
performance only drop wen reach threashold.

35c idle can be done.
all u need is 3rd party cooler, like GS, sonic & twin turbo, + ur room in air-con room.

last time wen i use twinturbo, my 4870 idle for 40c, load wit 100% fan speed nvr go >45c no matter how long i play crysis........... thumbup.gif
& yeah, not air-con room. these temperature is taken from hot summer malaysia.

i think gtx275 will beat 4890 easily wit 4x AA, even if both card max OC.

remember, gtx260 max OC on par wit stock gtx285.
4890 oc max also on par/trading blows wit gtx285.
so i reckon gtx275 max OC will beat gtx285 by a little.

1yr for 1 new GC? i don't think so...
*
not rich, its to keep up wit my full setting demand.
plus, if dun change, the value depreciate very quick.

if u think of it, lets say i sell & buy new GC every 10 months.
every time i lost RM500 due to graphic card value depreciate.
dats 500/10 = RM50/month of cost.
kinda like renting, 50/month is not a huge value, i bet ur telephone bill edi more den dat.

dats impossible wit dx10, max AA & max setting @ dat resolution, get smooth.

smooth = @ least 24fps all the time.

depends on location also.
tyr warhead, wen u 1st com out of the plane, go near fire.
if it ~30fps there, den only i consider as acceptable.

QUOTE(HIM @ Apr 3 2009, 05:58 PM)
I dunno whether is my 4850 cooler faulty or  the thermal paste dried up.
This few months my card get hot very easily. Play DOW2 for about 15 minute, the temp go high up until 100-104c with 55% fan speed.
So i have to set the fan speed to 80% only it go down to 95-98c.
If idle, with 50% fan speed, the temp also almost 68c.
So want to ask is my temp normal? Or i should change the thermal paste just in case it dried out
THX in advance
*
i suggest u remove the heatsink, clean the dust, & reapply thermal compound.

QUOTE(HIM @ Apr 4 2009, 02:11 AM)
Just changed my 4850 thermal paste from stock paste to tuniq-tx2.
Well now my temp is better. Idle about 64C with 55%fan
No more exceeding 100C after gaming, maintaining around 93-94C.
I know it is still hot but at least it cooled down my gc for 10C !!!!
Well when i open the heatsink i found out that the RAM is covered by one spongy-spongy layer. I dunno why it is there so i dun dare to take it out?
Anyone know what is the spongy thing for? IMO, it will just reduce the heat conduction.
One more thing, when i open the gpu, i found out that the stock thermal paste was so much until it leak out from the slot.
Is it the mistake by sapphire technician? Shouldn't thermal paste be only like one thin layer?
*
still bit too hot.
i think ventilation is not dat good.
may b u shud pump up the fan speed.

thermal pates shud b thin layer only, if it leak to the side, dats no good. coz it can cause electric leakage as well.
