It's a personal choice. I like SMPS, while others may like SLA.

I have tried: SMPS, regulated power supply and now shunt regulator. Shunt regulator is my choice, it is in my main system now.
By the way I am using TA2024.

For me there is differences. Overall the arrangement is like this ; smps<regulated<shunt in my own preference.

When ever you get power supply for it, get the highest power you can buy. The t-amp really loved the extra headroom, especially when the bass kick in.

hye there, all sifus here. i am currently looking for a t-amp to drive my travagans speaker. i was wondering and still in a dilemma of which ta to choose from either ta2020 , ta2024, or ta2022. and even after reading this thread from page 1, there are still certain things or term i dont understand. im so sorry for my future dumb question sad.gif

1. if i were to buy the t-amp regardless any models, can it be modded till i can use my existing QED QUINAT powerchord with it to supply them voltage? instead of the regular dc wall plug or what u call them again,

2. is it okay , or decent if i buy them fully completed unit such as

TA2020- http://www.ebay.com/itm/MUSE-M20-EX2-TA202...b#ht_3023wt_902

TA2020 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Topping-TP20-Mark2...4#ht_8847wt_732

TA2024 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/MUSE-M15-EX2-TA202...f#ht_4490wt_982

TA2022 -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOPPING-TP60-T-Amp...3#ht_1240wt_881

will these items i just listed above means later on if i buy them, i cant open them up to see what i can mod i.r change caps etc?

3. i love warmness, musicality , vocals, more or less a balanced setup, but im not fond of brightness stuff, not to say i hate it.

4. or i would just be better of settlling for xtorms completed ta2020 amp?

in any case anyone here would help me thru my t-amp journey? i KNOW im late by 3-5 years but wut to do, now only kena poison speakers and looking for a decent amp that can last me hopefully long enuf till i jump further to a better amp ,

thnx for the time and sry for the noobness

What a lot of people miss is that SMPS have wildly varying switching frequency, from below 20 kHz up to more than 100 kHz, depending on the model. If you look at for e.g Meanwell, their cheap models has a switching frequency in the 20+ kHz, too near to the audible band of the ear, while the more expensive ones switch at 60~80 kHz, less chance of harmonic distortion leaking into the audible band.

So I wouldn't sweat it, without knowing about the quality and switching freq. of the SMPS, I would take these comparisons with a grain of salt....

t-amp user reported in smile.gif.
No more discussion on T-amp??

Using Indeed TA2021B , just tried using behringer xynx 802(originally use for K only) as cheap preamp sounds wonderful, not the cleanest I can get, but it's definitely better than no preamp. The experience is very similar to headphone amplifier, with preamp everything come forward, attack is there, sound natural but might lose slight details because of the cheap mixer SNR, but really only very little lost (need to pay very close attention to notice that)

Now I can use it for karaoke, headphone output (sound very good is comparable to any cmoy).

I think a proper preamp will drive this gem much further, but why spends thousands while the t-amp only cost hundreds smile.gif.

NAS -> Acryan HD-> PCM1793 DAC (max 24bit 96khz)->Behringer Xynx 802->Indeed TA2021B->Wharf Dia 10.1
