If the dog is vomitting bile because he refused to eat, do we still need to fast him/her? It would be like having gastritis and not eating wor...
A good recommendation which I have tried before is to give 100 plus (which has been de-gassed - meaning the 100 plus has been let to sit out for a while) little by little. Glucose (the powdered form) diluted in water also can give if he/she refused to eat. Give about a teaspoon every 10-15 minutes to let the stomach settle. After a while, if he/she can keep the drink in without vomitting again, can add more gradually. If he/she still continues vomitting, it's high time to send to the vet. P/S: This method also works for humans with upset stomach or cannot keep their food in. I've personally tried this with my Mom who cannot stop vomitting. Even drinking water she will vomit |

QUOTE(eclipseMoon @ Feb 12 2009, 03:54 PM) I have experienced this before. Yeah, it's not weird for dogs to eat grass to stimulate their bowel movement...My MS vomitted yellowish bile, stop eat. I just fast him but gave fresh water. He recoverred after 3 days (yes is 3 days). During the period he sick, he was still active like before. the only weird thing he did was "eat grass" and make it vomit out again together with bile and poo poo out also. But after some reading I knew that "eat grass" is not weird for a sick dog. They will purposely eat grass to clear their stomach. |

Aragon, I think it's better if you only bring Kenji out when he's fully vaccinated....it'll be risky to expose him to so many dogs when he's not fully vaccinated. You would probably need to wait for him to be about 3-4 months old before sending him for training

QUOTE(vincent_ng86 @ Feb 12 2009, 04:52 PM) If you're staying near BU, MKA has their classes in Central Park. The fees is only RM180 for 10 lessons (this includes the MKA membership fees).Me, I'm taking lessons with Puppy.com in Ampang. They have basic classes there as well as in Taman Desa. The fees is RM250 for 10 lessons (which includes their premium membership fee). Another training center would be PetNYou, but I'm not sure where they conduct classes. Maybe a PetNYou member can continue this If you're in Penang, check out the Penang Dog Agility Association. Although their association states agility, they do OB there as well |

QUOTE(red-queen @ Feb 13 2009, 01:16 AM) hey guys n girls, If you're taking your pup in 4 weeks' time, does it mean the pup would be about 4 weeks old now? If so, you can't really tell much I think, as they change a lot from the 4th week to the 8th week. Like Waichee said, you could check the ears. The pups SHOULD be able to walk about already by now, so see if he/she is active or not during play with the siblings. Check for any abnormal discharge from the eyes. this sat on valentines day i'm gonna be visiting the pup that i'm about to purchase. if everything goes well then i'll be paying deposit and collect the pup in another 4 more weeks time. anything in particular that i should look out for in the pup? any guidance will be most appreciated. Most importantly, if you're making the decision this week, you should ask to see the parents. If they have only one parent, it's still fine...have a good look at how the mother handles the pups and observe her temperament with the owner(s). Most of the time, the pups inherit temperaments from their parents. Keep in mind though that although the mother might be of show quality, the pups MIGHT NOT be of show quality. The breeder should be able to tell you which pup(s) are POTENTIALLY of show quality (and I stress POTENTIALLY because although a pup might look like a show quality pup NOW, a lot can change when he/she grows up) if the breeder shows his/her dogs. Hope this helps a little. Rather than just relying on us, do a little Google search for choosing a pup. |

QUOTE(Candy&Vincent @ Feb 13 2009, 11:50 AM) If like that, is that necessary to sent him to training? to make my wilbur not to be so wild? Actually what is taught from the OB Training? For me, I feel that it is very important to send our dogs for at least a basic OB training so that we'll be able to get some control over our pups, especially when we're out and about a lot. OB is not so much of teaching tricks though (that would be in a different category), so it's mainly control over our dogs and teaching them to be good canine citizens. Basic obedience usually includes the CGC (Canine Good Citizen). There you can see what is their lesson plans for their different courses and also answers to questions we always ask when it comes to OB training. Hope that helps! |

QUOTE(Vickie @ Feb 16 2009, 03:44 PM) Do u all know a brand called "Royal Canine"? I got quite lost in the discussion after 3 days of not being around. LOL! It got a pack is specially for Schnauzer one... Anybody try it before? As i know it very very expensive la... i can't afford to buy for puffy... I DID try Royal Canine for Schnauzers for Scottie for almost half a year. It was quite good, albeit a bit pricey (that time it was selling for RM70+ for a 2+kg which will last Scottie for about one month). But after those few months, the groomer that I bought it from told me that they are not going to carry it anymore because Royal Canine is increasing their retail price by about 30%, making it more than RM100 per bag Added on February 16, 2009, 6:03 pm QUOTE(asa @ Feb 16 2009, 04:12 PM) we might hv a gathering at Bandar utama park, then maybe we can meet there:) then will got lot of MS for u to practice it out. Here's another interesting thing that I found...sounds cool, but I still think that raw feeding is the best
Start with a grade of 100 1. For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points. 2. For every non-specific animal source (meat, poultry, meal, or fat) reference, subtract 10 points. 3. If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points. 4. For every grain mill run or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points. 5. If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. ground brown rice, brewers rice, rice flour are all the same grain), subtract 5 points. 6. If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points. 7. If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points. 8. If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points. 9. If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points. 10. If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points. 11. If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources) subtract 2 points. 12. If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points. 13. If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog is not allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points. 14. If it contains beef (unless you know that you dog is not allergic to beef), subtract 1 point. 15. If it contains salt, subtract 1 point. Extra Credit: 1. If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points. 2. If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points. 3. If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points. 4. If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points. 5. If the food contains fruit, add 3 points. 6. If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points. 7. If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points. 8. If the food contains barley, add 2 points. 9. If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points. 10. If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point. 11. If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point. 12. For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count chicken and chicken meal as only one protein source), add 1 point. 13. If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point. 14. If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point. QUOTE(aragonlee @ Feb 23 2009, 11:38 PM) they maybe can be good watch dog instead of guard dog... if u wan a guard dog.. maybe u can find a giant schnauzer Min. Schnauzers can be good watch dogs coz they alert you whenever they hear something weird, but not too sure about guarding. Scottie always likes to bark at strangers, but when people pat him he enjoys the pats! LOL! Giant Schnauzers COULD be a guard dog I guess, but it also depends on the temperament, breeding and training of the dog...so far, I've only seen one Giant Schnauzer (a female) and she is as gentle as a lamb. |
