You can also mix other grass that available in the market, like orchard grass and bermuda grass, as long as it fresh and great smelling. Timothy hay always is the best choise. By mixing variety of grass, you are encourage your GP consume more grass that in return bring good health to your GP in over all. Too many good thing is happening just by providing your GP with a handful of fresh hay each day.

Yes, all rodent will do the pulling out kind of thing from your hay box or hay rack. If you put handful on a flat base cage, you will see this happen less and they will be less wastage as well.

For 1 months++ old GP, feeding alfalfa hay and pellet indeed is a good start, but i will said the GP is too young to be purchase and sell in the pet shop. You need at least 2 months old GP, cause nothing can replace mom's milk from any feed your give them when they are young. However, since your GP already with you, you do your part. Feed them well and give great care, they will do well to. nod.gif Feeding alfalfa hay only is good, but it will be even better if you can give 20-30% of timothy hay along with your alfalfa hay, that will even better.
Depend on what type of GRASS you feed, Bermuda and Orchard GRASS is 1 of the type that CAN feed to small animal. In fact is good alternative source of fiber for them, they will love the variety. If you can ger Rye Grass and Blue Grass, that is fantastic.

Chinchillas will PM you about that.

For the ants, ants only interested in SWEET, will it be you feeding something sweet to your GP like fruits or treat? Clean up your place as much as possible, your GP will also be attack by ants. If after cleanign still have plenty of ants coming in, then look for another place to place your GP, this is for her safety.

Dont let them train you, you train them, don follow what they want, follow what they need. Even you put a McD there, there will go and eat. GP is not suitable to eat fruits and vegetable EVERYDAY, it is wrong feeding partern. Your gp just need GP pallet, a tiny small amount of fresh fruit OR Vege, a handful of fresh hay. That's all. Occasionally , for YOUR happiness, feed them some healthy treat. GP need small amount of VIT C each day, either tiny vege or fruit will meet their need. (Most of GP pellet already have included extra VIT C)

Vaseline works. happy.gif Yeah, those you put on your lips, also referred to as petroleum jelly (vaseline is the brand). I had trouble a while when ants discovered my pig's leftover fruit so fast that it haven't become leftover yet. So apply vaseline at the bottom and poof~ no ants! But clean out the place first so that it doesn't have ants in it. Keeps ants out and in if it's already in your enclosure.

sweetcat, you better bathe your piggies. Just in case they're lice ok?

Happy new year everyone. smile.gif May you and your piggies share yet another lovely year together.
