My point is, I'm using some cheap crap 550W which doesn't have 80plus certification and yet it could run 4850GS without any problems.

This PSU is much cheaper than any of those 80plus certified PSU out there.

"Cari Kunci" 550W lol.

Err, performance of 4850GS compared to what? =/ Working so far so good for me. Playing every game at maxed out settings. Don't know how it will perform when I buy a 2233SW this weekend PCFair though.

@ Celciuz,
Haha when you buy it d, tell me the FPS you're getting.. I'll try to sell my 17" if I could. I'm thinking about T190/220 la.. Both of em' are beautiful! 2253BW/2233SW ain't too bad either.. Hopefully it won't choke our 4850s too badly.

T220 is much more expensive compared to 2233SW isn't it? That price can get 24" already =/

Well, gonna take a look. I know someone in PG who bought a 2233SW running on 8800GT. He said it's still ok. 4850 can't be worse than a 8800GT isn't it lol.

It is better to remove to old driver first before installing the new one because the new files usually are just overwrite the old files and may not removing unnecessary files from old version.

Ok guys. I've getting a problem booting my pc up and I was unsure what the hell has happened with my pc. If the pc was able to boot up, it won't have a problem if I choose to 'Restart' from Windows. But if I choose to 'Turn Off' (it a sense that there's lightning out there which won't make my pc safe or other things like changing peripherals), it won't boot up again until some time miraculously it will able to boot up. The symptom is that the pc is able to boot up but won't get past BIOS as the BIOS won't show up at all and also the processor fan will be running at full speed plus no beeping at all. I've tried removing things like RAMs, detached any HDDs and other things just to make my mobo run. The results remained the same.

Last week, I just bought new mobo which is Asus P5Q as I thought the mobo died or nearly end of life. For a few days, the pc ran perfectly and I also getting higher benchmark compared to my old AM2 mobo. But recently, the weather weren't that good and I did turn off my pc because of lightning. Again, the omgwtfbbq thing happened. Today I had tried several things and I just found out that the culprit is that Gainward HD4850GS graphic card. When I detached the power cord attached to the graphic card, the mobo boot up fine and finally I heard that beeping sound.

At the moment, I've less faith with Gainward because, first, I got that first batch with black screens and I thought it was my PSU which had less power. So I replaced my PSU but the black screens remained. Immediately after that I replaced the card after the distro asked for 1-to-1 exchange. Second, after several months, this thing happened to my pc and I even bought new mobo on new platform. I am not amused with what has happened but then, this might be somewhat emotional thing I've written. Seriously, Strider ST50F was not cheap. Same with Asus P5Q along with Intel processor.

I will return this card to be RMA soon but in the same time I will find another graphic card other than Gainward. The RMAed card will be put on Garage Sales.

Regards.

ST50F is an old atx 2.01 model if i'm not mistaken..

the 4850gs uses 8pin pci-e cable.. the st50f doesn't have one and can use a convertor, but i'm not so sure about the convertor as it may have problems because basically the psu doesn't have 8pin pcie cable to begin with.

the st50f uses DUAL 12V rails right?

you said it was expensive..when did u buy and how much is it?

BTW, SERIGALA...how's the water cooling system.. good ar? i heard it's so so only... i have e8400 e0 4850gs...4gb ocz.. almost same la abit..

I bought the Strider just a few weeks after I bought 4850GS which was around August or September. Like I said, it worked fine. Even if I turn off the PC. Until recently the graphic card seems failing. Either that, maybe it hates Asus mobos (my previous mobo of AM2 was Asus too).

yup..so-so..well..it is a budget WC setup..not the 1 that cost RM1000++
but perform well to cooldown my E8400 around 40 to 50 in a room that have ambient temp max 34C..if use air cooling(sunbeam CCF)..i only can get lowest temp 46C..
well..in a few days more i will go quad..so maybe will adjust the WC kit a bit..
here goes my budget for HD4870x2..

btw..asus and gainward dont have any conflict..have try HD4850GS on my P5Q Deluxe and on my asus AM2+ mobo..so far no prob on AM2 mobo..

Hey, my Gainward 4870 just went dead. I was wondering to send it to the dealers or send it directly to Gainward for RMA? which way is faster and anyone knows how long it usually takes for rma?
