Any Automotive student here?
Or anyone working in the Automotive sector?
I am a Diploma student, taking up City & Guilds Diploma in Automotive Engineering, together I already graduated with the usual MLVK Automotive course.
What I want to know what field I can take up in near future, besides just being a mechanic?
It's because I tried to find the carreer path for Automotive, but I still can't get any clear picture.
I've already posted my answers in Education Essentials and search through Jobs & Careers section, but still dont have a clear picture.

if u wanna become something other than a mechanic, u should take a degree. look for places that offer degrees in automotive engineering. in malaysia not many offer it, mostly IPTAs only. if got cash go UK. quite common.

i know a guy who did his degree in germany, loaded fellow! i think he was attachd 2 a famous german automaker, luki guy.
i suggest u work as a mechanic; not long term, for work experience. no point of just studyx2... i think there are internship programmes from local auto companies, that is a good start 2 ur automotive career. if ya are good, they sure hire u1, from that point u can go further up till management level or any level of ur choice.
my 1cent opinion

QUOTE(SleeplessEyes @ Nov 3 2008, 02:16 PM) Add on? IT Diploma? Okey, first time hear this one, you got my attention..how to do just that? sorry, i dont mean diploma. i meant after you get your diploma, you can either work first, or continue to pursue a degree with an additional management module. refer to this . its just an example though, as i'm not sure if your institution offers this option. in order to move up to management rank, i think you will need some sort of qualifications that includes management. but apart from that, experience is vital too. so you can work first as a mechanic to gain experience first and perhaps later on look to study part time if you wanna get promoted. if not, i think it'll be hard to be a supervisor or manger without the necessary qualifications.

QUOTE(tululu @ Nov 3 2008, 05:18 PM) u cant even spell career properly better go become road side hawker there's no reason for you to be that rude.. Added on November 3, 2008, 8:08 pmyea TS, basically with a diploma you can be a service advisor. the role of this position is you attend to the customer and ask what prob they're facing, then you check the car and hand over the job to the mechanic to fix it.. basically you'll be dealing more with the customers and less the car compared to a mechanic.. QUOTE(LanEVOchris @ Nov 3 2008, 08:46 PM) thats why TOC is Talk Only Cock Yes! Tempat Orang Clubbing Tempat Orang Cacat but hey.The college is improving.Just lack of trainers that can speak english with a good accent. They say German experience or whatever crap it is, they're lying.70% of the trainers are from Phillipines. They're recruiting some locals trainer as well. The equipments are really good but lack of tools. So now they decided to ""give" the student some SATA tools(That included in the fees) Try to continue to degree, you'll have a better worker options. I'll be graduating from TOC next year.

TOC..quite a big name eh in the automotive study..my college quite small but they are improving.. can say that my batch are the worse...got lot of problem with tools and equipment...how about u having to training with rusty old car quite scary... but they are improving due to our complaints (at one point we even reported it to the MLVK) I might continue study on Lvl 4 and 5 next year (final exam next month...auto box..quite easy) BUT I dont think I will get a carrier in automotive... my dad want me to work with him
