TOC..quite a big name eh in the automotive study..my college quite small but they are improving.. can say that my batch are the worse...got lot of problem with tools and equipment...how about u having to training with rusty old car sweat.gif quite scary... but they are improving due to our complaints (at one point we even reported it to the MLVK)

I might continue study on Lvl 4 and 5 next year (final exam next month...auto box..quite easy)

BUT I dont think I will get a carrier in automotive... my dad want me to work with him sweat.gif  doh.gif

Interesting thread... I'm doing my mechanical engineering degree now, finishing my 3rd year in a matter of days. Automotive engineering is one of my major interests, but I'm unsure myself of the kind of career path it offers in Malaysia. Hope anyone here with more experience and knowledge and continue contributing to the thread. smile.gif

TOC is famous because of their advertising. Really.

I'm not from TOC, thats why I can't speak like a TOC student.

For the City and Guilds I am taking in my school (sorry I am not feeling comfortable disclosing the name of the school) , it's really 2x cheaper (by amounts of RM 10K differences, not just thousands) . Thats why I didn't chose TOC. Its not to say TOC is bad..just out of my budget.

But what I do aim is to grad from this City and Guilds, and serve the Automotive line in year 2009. No use looking at MLVK course, its 1/2 the value.

will be taking diploma in automotive maintenance techno in TOC this february. went there 2 days ago and the customer service was very professional. told me everything i needed to know about the courses being offered and afterwards they showed me around and took me to see their facilities, labs, whatever. all i can say is just wow, its excellent. over the top even, they do practical on luxury cars e.g kompressor c200 honda civic hybrid and so on. all type of cars. the facilities is very impressive. went home and staright decided hey this is what i wanna do this is where i wanna go. fees quite expensive but this is a very good institution for an ipts. have partnership with over 300 companies, students being offered to represent racing team in dubai, first automotive college in malaysia to study hybrid technology. anybody who is serious in having a career in auto industry i recommend you have a look here. got so many loans too. will be looking forward studying there

Yeah. They customer service is damn pro in giving sweet to customer. Promise this and that and end up, they don't even provide what they said. Practical fixing kompressor c200? That car already dismantle man!!!! The car can't start at all.. Just for visual look!! I been cheated by the toc.. I still fed up with them by promising me that course I taken doesn't need to study anything about math and science. But now, I need to studying add math and also fizik!!! While I didn't even study add math and fizik at all in my secondary school! Furthermore, confirm will get job after you graduate with salary confirm RM1k above. But my friend already graduate there, salary only RM600 and went back college and ask, they said is depend your luck.. WTF!!!! You still need do anything from basic agaiN!..So think twice either toc izit worth for you.. Get more info from TOC students here so that you won't get cheated. I believed have some toc student here.. Last time I opened one at zth forum and i get alot of negative feedback. too bad the server roll back and the thread disappeared.

sleeplessEyes,

IMO, u can either work first and later pursue for higher education or u can continue studying for a degree.

since u don't have a clear career path, i'd suggest that u start working 1st. 1st of all dont be too choosy in selecting jobs, just take on any job opportunity that comes forth. as u progress in your work, u'll eventually see the light in the dark. that's when u'll really know where u wana be or where u wana go, then probably to pursue that, u can opt to study for a degree to bring u closer to your goal in life.

u can start looking for jobs by looking out for career fair, and then submitting your resume to your company of choice. IMO, this is the most effective way.
At the same time, start by uploading your resume online, via jobDB,jobstreet, monster.

im a TOC student, the facilities are great but the management sucks. They always keep changing their policy. The management just reported to us that if we fail our subject, u must pay rm1000 for it. Last semester, they told us that we dont need to pay anything for the 1st and 2nd time.If u still fail the 3rd time then u pay.

IMO, the college learning experience is good, just the way how the college runs is a major headache.

I just finished learning hydraulic system. Maybe my next subject is forced induction,i think.

Mechanical student here too

I feel that when you go higher, there's more advantage for mechanical/manufacturing degree holders. Why?

What do you expect to work as an engineer in automotive plants? The job scope is more focus on dealing with processes, problem solving rather than hands on with vehicles directly

thats what they told us. they said our standards are ups.

hand tools definately sucks. dont ever buy the ones college provides (like the briefcase). very expensive. want some tools, better buy from me. SATA is piece of junk.

TOC's plan in the future is to become a university and probably move somewhere else bigger like a campus. errr i'll be graduating next year but maybe they tipu us.who knows.
