I use Oracle's Solaris 11.2, It look and feel like a Linux distro
but the browser is firefox version 17.0.11 The firefox website doesn't provide update for Solaris operating system. The Oracle website does not provide update also. Wondering what is the consequence of using an old version firefox? |

Fedora 22, but by September I'm going to decide whether to stick with Fedora or switch to something else, maybe back to an LTS release of Ubuntu or CentOS. (most likely going to get F24 when it comes out though, I don't really mind that they go through the numbers really fast.)

QUOTE(-Hzu- @ Mar 8 2016, 06:29 PM) Yeah, kinda agree to that, though I think it's still more of a matter of how people feel about it. I personally like how hardcore they go with their software, releasing a lot of programs that just don't quite feel finished (Builder, Boxes, etc.)... Keeps reminding you that they intend to take things up a few notches.Sad thing is the downside of that is I see them phasing out some good software I use, just because they're old. For a while, I've been using gEDA packages for a while for some simple electronics work (I forgot on Ubuntu or Fedora, probably on both at some point), but they decided to get rid of them from the repos and bring in this Qelectrotech thing, which feels 80x more clobbered together than gschem. Then again, I heard of some devs just stopping work on their software, like video card drivers. Maybe eventually I work on creating custom distros for the machines I work on, and if I get bored enough, I MIGHT just look for an 8-bit version of the kernel for AVR chips |

QUOTE(jasonZ8834 @ Jan 7 2017, 10:39 AM) Personal. I just hate Debian and its derivatives. Not the distro itself, but they way they prefer to do things. Ubuntu is fork of Debian. And Mint is from Ubuntu. In openSUSE and many parts of Redhat family, we prefer to do things directly, cleanly and as minimal as possible. Debian on other hand prefer to overzealously abstract things, unecessarily decentrilize things, and try to being unecessarily systematic that I see.. cringey. For example, nginx config. Instead of having all your directives stored in one, nicely written, nginx.conf file, they prefer to split in in many parts. Ie. Each vhost have their own config files. And there are folders for active and inactive vhost too. In SUSE we just comment the hell out of undesired directives. Then Systemd unit files. In Debian, they prefer to store the parameters in separate files in /etc. In SUSE, we just cram the parameter inside the unit files. It doesnt take too much energy to do daemon-reload. Unecessarily scatter the config in lots of places, furthermore root-only.. masochist much? Then iptables. They prefer to use iptables-persistent, again, make a new config file just for iptables? Too much free times perhaps. In SUSE we just list our desired rules in /etc/rc.d/boot.local. Clean and simple. Well thats just my personal opinions and preference. Some people just like such classy and fancy system, like a sir. But for me, I definitely prefer the no nonsense, barbaric way of SUSE.
