Wooo Hooo...

Finally, 1st night which i managed to sleep well after watching spurs match... phew... last night game, Bentley finally able to cross some ball like a true England winger, Modric looks like a $16million dollar man wit his free-role, King... wat else can i say bout him, a true captain indeed, Gomes finally proved why he replaced former England #1...

The rest... Roman looks good, Bent... eeerrrr... hope for more to come from both of 'em if they manage to combine.

Can't wait for this weekend... a reviving side spurs take on a youthful gunners...

Modric was my MOTM for sure. Tireless running, and great first touches.

Er, the trip to the Emirates is midweek, not weekend. Harry's baptism of fire continues....

Redknapp is an awesome manager... Happy so see Harry finally decided to pursue this long time ambition in managing Spurs... A good club like Spurs should expect none better than Harry... He's a tough and smart man...

Hopefully we will improve in our formation as 4-5-1 doesnt seem to fit spurs collectively talented player

It could be that your lack of established front men means playing a 4-5-1 is not just a matter of choice.

true. agree with that.
now they already taste the first win of the season. Although I'm not spurs fans, but to see a good team struggling really feel very sad.

I do not believe that Spurs will be relegated and I expect them to finish midtable this season. I've always had a soft spot and used to follow you lot a little back in the day. I remember seeing Eric Thorstvedt in goal with Gary Mabbut in front of him. Gazza was bossing the midfield providing ammunition to Gary Lineker. I also used to enjoy watching David Ginola play. He was to me one of the best wingers in the world at the time.

Aside from the obvious lack of frontmen, there isn't any steel in midfield. This was evident the moment Michael Carrick and Edgar Davids left. Teemu Tainio provided some muscle in that department but now it's left solely to Zakora to put in the crunching challenges. Also Ledley King has been missing and Michael Dawson hasn't matured into the player many hoped he would when he was a promising young un and Nottingham Forest.

hey, great to see we're off to a winning start under harry's reign at spurs..calling all spurs fans in malaysia..indeed,if u hv supported this team as long as i do than u will understand that spurs are the most frustrating team to support over the years and i wont be surprised that some of us was thinking of giving up supporting a week ago but pls, give more support to spurs and if u really had been supporting spurs all ur life, keep on doing it, there will be rough and patchy roads ahead and when the players are down, no matter where we are as spurs fans, they need our support, and to all spurs fans here who have been thru our worst start every since the premier league started i applaud you guys for showing the faith as i hv been. Sitting in the living room or anywhere, watching spurs play, whether or not they r down, i'm sure most of u here will hv "Come On You Spurs!!" in ur mind. keep up the good work guys. we'll be against arsenal n liverpool next n the game is on air on ch 812 on thurs morning 3.55.

Hope u guys will be in front of the tv cheering together when we score the goals that eventually win us the match.
It's against arsenal and with or without keane n berbatov we can beat them.

last year was 5-1 with keane n malbranque scoring. now we will not have their services but still we hv quite a quality to win it and i have this strong feeling we will win it. trust me, for once i had dis feeling, we won against bolton. thumbup.gif

COYS!!

Guys, interested on starting a fan-based website for spurs?

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tim Sherwood has confirmed he is mulling over an offer from new Spurs boss Harry Redknapp to join the backroom staff at White Hart Lane. "It has been very flattering to be linked with the club," the former Spurs skipper said.

Added on October 28, 2008, 4:29 pmanyways, under redknapp, cant see how we're going to play 2 strikers up front..during the bolton match we played 4-4-1-1 with modric given a free role behind pav/bent to attack..which brings da best our of him so i think he'll realised that's da best position for modric. so again, there'll be no room for 2 strikers for us.

you forget that he has successfully played BOTH Defoe and Crouch as their starting strikers at Pompey. he will find a way to have 2 strikers for us as an option.

hmm, its cz crouch and defoe are easily played with the big man small man combination. whereas pav n bent are both similar type of players
anyways, i wont mind if pav scored 1st half den bent scored 2nd half like da bolton game! tongue.gif

Do you noe why Defoe being sold???

He refused to sign for new contract which if his contract expired he can walk to another team for free..

Spurs need to sell him in order to prevent JUDAS case repeated.

How would you like if Defoe transfer to another team without a penny.

Anyway GUD LUCK to our boys in Pirates Emirates Stadium.

Nope..Harry master in transfer market and i think Harry should given full authority to buy players. What we need rite now is Left winger and Striker. Bent and Roman Pavychenko cant play together. Hopefully we can get good players for this position.

We need to move on and avoid defeat tomorrow will boast team spirit

Damien Commoli should go to Arsenal And butter up Arsene's A$$. See how he can screw up Arsenal's transfer dealings! tongue.gif Now that would make my day cool2.gif

I think Bent and Roman can play together. Bent seems pretty mobile and he can probably drop off a bit from the target man. I think Harry, should try and get Arshavin. But then again, where would modric play? hahaha..i think currently, the best option is to have a 4-3-3 with modric-bent-roman_P.....with modric drifting wide to play free role. But spurs need would definitely be central midfield partnership with more bite!, a decent left foot winger (to complement bentley) and a decent/steady/consistent/injury-free/or whatever u call it, back 4 combination smile.gif

*
Well he WAS at Arsenal before we sign him. And maybe that's why he screw up on us. laugh.gif

Seriously, I thought many (not all) Comolli signing are quite decent. Modric, Bentley, Huddlestone, Bale, Giovani are no ordinary players. And if I'm correct he is the one that discovers Berbatov. The problem here I think is the lack of understanding between Comolli and Jol / Ramos. Comolli only signs players that are talented and it is up to manager to play them or not.

I dont know why I keep on pressing this issues. It's a new life under Harry reign for god sake. Sorry guys. I just scared that the same thing will happen all over again next summer.

Ah forget all this crap. Lets just make sure tonight will be a sweet result for us Spurs.

*
Had to disagree. I mean Bent arent exactly a skillful player. More of a powerhouse type. Probably the same as Pavlyuchenko. Well I'm not quite sure of Pavlyuchenko though.
As for Arshavin, I think we had too many lightweight players. Like Harry said, we need some tough tackling lung bursting kind of players. And he must at least can pass the ball. Lets go for Appiah. I heard he is free. What do you say?

76 minutes has passed and i dont think i can take it anymore...

1st of all, congratulations ARSENAL... u totally deserve to win. watching this match is like watching 11 men Arsenal vs 9 men Tottenham... why ? Bale was no-where, Jenas missing ball all the time, Roman was alone without support, Modric is not physically enuf to play in EPL, Ekotto can't mark Walcott, Huddlestone is not the answer to our midfield...

i think Harry must be thinkin this right now...

- is left winger ban'ed in Spurs ?
- why did Commoli bought Roman ?
- why must my 2nd game in charge is against Arsenal ?

sigh... 4-2 (at the moment) is a kesian score, knowing that the 2nd goal by Bent was a mistake by Alumia... we dont look like any top 8 EPL squad at this moment... just avoid relegation will do for me this season

Ahh..comolli, well..he's history. "Dirty-Harry" should have a more decent knowledge on transfer dealings, since he's setting the formation and tactics smile.gif

As for appiah..well, maybe harry, should switch to 4-4-2, we can have 2 terrier dogs in appiah and zokora (which reminds me of the old days like Parkinson-ebrell[everton], keane-ince[man U], gattuso-pirlo[milan], hehehe..

....and what a gAMe!!!! 4-4...we may not have won, but the believe and fighting spirit is there...And i think Heurelio Gomez might have caught the "paul robinson" bug too soon shakehead.gif

See what happened when manager know what to do to their team. In a WEEK, suddenly Jenas,Bentley, Modric can play well together. Ramos is a good manager but communication between manager and players is the key.

Players looks confidence and know what they need to do. A draw against Arsenal after 4-2 down is a massive result. I can see this team will bounce back in style. Liverpool next!

I first mentioned Appiah's name after the last World Cup and was wondering when someone else would see how talented his is. He ran Nigeria's midfield together with Essien and excelled. He is also a vastly experienced player having also played for Juventus before. I don't however see him as a terrier type player but rather a maestro in midfield, orchestrating play.

See you this Sunday, I'm sure you'll be a handful with your newfound confidence but we are on a high of our own. Torres may return this weekend for us and I'm hoping he'll give your troubled back four some trouble, and can take advantage of Gomes' indifferent start to life in the Prem. It will be a case of one of the best defences in the league playing against one of the worst attacks in the league at the moment. Liverpool and Chelsea both have 5 clean sheets this season while Spurs have only scored 7 goals, ranked 19th in the league.

I'm sure the statistics won't mean anything though given that you've already scored 6 in two games under Harry. The one positive for us is that you've also conceded 4 last night. I'm expecting us to control the midfield with Alonso in boss form, supported by Gerrard and possibly Mascherano. I do however foresee Aaron Lennon giving Aurelio or Dossena a torrid time.

Here are the opinions of a a few Tottenham lads from London:

alamak, we can't bring Defoe back in January.

Premier League rule L19 says a player cannot return to his former club within 12 months of leaving.
A spokesman said: 'It is written in section L19 of the Premier League rules that a club which transfers or cancels the registration of a player may not apply to register that player within a year.

Harry Houdini conjures another stunt. I'll have to admit, that goal for Bentley is probably the best I've seen yet. Had a wicked dip and swerved all over the air. I reckon Harry will be looking for a new goalkeeper. Gomes is as calamitous as Robinson, if not worst.

You won't see many goals like the one Bentley scored. He didn't even need a run up and look at the power he generated. Reminds me of the goal one of your left backs scored a few seasons ago, can't remember his name for the life of me. He was Scandanavian or something.

Edman had time to take aim before getting his shot off but unlike in Bentley's case, Dudek was close to his line. The ball floated upwards, just sneaking inside the post. Bentley's strike was amazing but Almunia was off his line a little. Still, he managed to generate a good deal of power.

its about time.

you know, we really need a new stadium. i was at WHL in Nov 06 and the stadium is really old compared to the likes of the Emirates. and we don't have enough seats. more seats, means more tickets, means more money for transfers, means more chances of being successful etc...all linked.

Drop Gomes and play Cesar. With this, we can save our players from Gomes. First of all, he knocks out Corluka, then he tried to take King out and yesterday, he gives Jenas a punch to the head rather punching the ball. rclxub.gif

I'm not too convinced about that mate...
If he make one mistake, then I'll be glad to give him another chance. But as witnessed last night, he keeps failing to deal with crosses.

Look I'm not solely blaiming Gomes for all the goals or for the way he knocks out Corluka. I do know his ability are way better than what has he performed currently. He clearly lacks some believe in himself or his teammates. I say drop him for a couple of games and see what Cesar can do.

Just my 2 cents

Loan for half a season maybe. He'll be our #1 if injuries stay out of his way.
You can have Kuszczak though.

Should go and get Diarra from Portsmouth.

Its a super strike by Bentley. No doubt about it. He kicked it upwards, the ball kinda took a wicked swirl and into the net. But Almunia have to shoulder some blame for being off position, tho he got a slight touch to the ball but not enough to change the flight of the ball out of the goal.

Now i know and really really admit that Redknapp is really really magician!!!! COngrats again.

Better than beating London rival Arsenal? Chelsea? Well I suppose beating us will be the first step and it should be an interesting encounter given that both teams are high on confidence now.

Harry is the king.. give him some money to buy a top CM or two, and watch this team go. Even better if he can manage to persuade SAF to loan him Foster with Gomes making mistakes every game.

For me, Redknapp didnt changes so much for Spurs. He already got quality players. What's he need to do is to motivate his players. To make them confidence and for me he done it very well.

Good manager is when u not only master in tactician but can motivated their players. Mourinho never playing football but he is master to motivated his players.

It is awesome to get another 3 pts in the bag and more importantly, we are NO longer the bottom club, propping up the table. Congrats to the team!

But we still got loads more work ahead. We got to get our UEFA CUp tourney back on track with a home game to Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday, and then face Man City away on Sunday.

THEN we play Liverpool again in the Carling Cup at home....

Inspired substitutions by Harry made the difference in the end. We paid the price for not converting our chances during the 10 minute spell we had when we twice his the post, while Kuyt and Alonso both went just wide with the goal gaping in front of them. Football is a cruel game and when you don't take things that come your way, you pay for it as we did. One wonders why Harry didn't start with 2 up front in the first place. Am i surprised by the result? No. Disappointed for sure but not surprised. I am surprised though that there seem to be more Man Utd and Chelsea fans posting here after such a significant win. Seems all the rivalry and hostility from last season has been forgotten.

Well i'm a Chelsea Supporter but a fan of the football that Liverpool and Tottenham plays... I always support of the motion of the best team wins but nonetheless clubs that i've mentioned above never failed to amused me with their fighting spirit and their will to strife and win. Liverpool rivalry was very strong few season back when they knock us out repeatedly in Champs league and Spurs deny our League Cup win last season... But true rivals for me in Chelsea sense are those manu buggers... can never see me say good things about them though... laugh.gif

To what do we attribute his mini "revival"? King has returned but not much else has changed. Harry Redknapp saw that Kuyt was winning headers and that they were lacking numbers up-front and made the necessary adjustments, credit to him. He didn't wait until the traditional 60th or 70th minute mark to ring in the changes. Do I think he is a tactical genius? To be honest, I do not. I think his strength is that his players like him and they want to do well for him. Juande Ramos did not have the same connection with the players. To be realistic, Spurs were outplayed for large portions of the match but the difference is that they had that extra bit of energy and urgency.

I'm not taking any credit away because as I have said before, I've followed the team for some time now and I've a really nice friend who is a Spurs fans, and who joins us for Liverpool games. He sent me a message this morning and to be honest, I am happy for him. Sadly it had to be at our expense but I'm hoping that Spurs do well.

the way we played last night was indeed, liverpool deserved to win.
but to me, harry is a great manager. ramos too. but harry has always been famous for his man management skills. no manager would make drastic changes after the half time or early in the game. most managers would study the gameplay and that is exactly how harry changed the game after 60 or 70 minutes. he switched corluka's position and we were seriously unlucky with the first goal. defensive lapse is our mistake but see carefully and u'll notice kuyt's shot took a deflection which explains why gomes is beaten near post. nonetheless, we're off the bottom. we drew against chelsea, arsenal and beat liverpool so far. something we have to be proud of.

but to me, harry is a great manager. ramos too. but harry has always been famous for his man management skills. no manager would make drastic changes after the half time or early in the game. most managers would study the gameplay and that is exactly how harry changed the game after 60 or 70 minutes. he switched corluka's position and we were seriously unlucky with the first goal. defensive lapse is our mistake but see carefully and u'll notice kuyt's shot took a deflection which explains why gomes is beaten near post. nonetheless, we're off the bottom. we drew against chelsea, arsenal and beat liverpool so far. something we have to be proud of.
COYS!
*
Didn't notice the deflection even after watching the replay. It wasn't really at Gomes' nearpost. From what I remember it went in over him, into the top corner of the far post.

The other way around the clock last season , we beat them at Hart Lane, which was hardly acceptable last night, yet good work by Harry..

Yes, liverpool got couples of great chances but since they never took the advantages, Spurs killed them.

Yet another brilliant substitution made by King Harry

Go into Arsenal thread and you will see they are thankful for us winnning against Liverpool
Hardly surprising given that they are your biggest rivals. Remember the hostility during the Sol Campbell saga?

Chelsea fans are in here just because they are back on top. They'd be flooding Wycombe Wanderer's thread if they were the ones that beat us smile.gif

hmm, bent said that we should try using him and pav together..
which brings to the next question.
how would our formation be? any thoughts guys?
if we were to accomodate them two n modric to the team
surely my preferred choice is 4-1-2-1-2
but can our defense cope?

For me, it hard to see Bent and Pav playing together. Their playing style quite similar. What we need right now decent LEFT WINGER because we already got best right winger (bentley).

I like the way Harry used Modric. Free role for him because Huddlestone look solid at DM. We have good balance in our team right now.

Then we have to drop Bentley which IMO the best player in Harry's reign at the moment. Maybe Modric can drop back to be a normal CM rather than free role. The partner should be Huddlestone as Zokora cannot pass the ball. As for LM, for now I say go for O'Hara or Bale. 2nd half bring on our supersub, Lennon!!!!

As for defence, it is the left back that causes headache it seems. Maybe Corluka can empoy that role full time. He looks decent against Liverpool playing there. Woodgate, King and Hutton (Gunter) should complete the back four.

And for Gomes, please prove me wrong. I am truy grateful for the save from Gerrard but then you make me curse you by making another mistake. doh.gif
Luckily Gerrard didnt put on his scoring boots that day. sweat.gif

I don't know about Bent. He had a good season with Charlton but many players have suffered the feared 2nd season hangover and have never lived up to early promise. It says something that Bent was only 4th choice after failing to impress and selected behind Berbatov, Keane and Defoe.

More importantly for me, Modric is yet to fit into the team. He's best playing behind two forwards but has been largely forced to play further up front in the 2nd strikers role. I think he works best behind two frontmen in a 4-4-2 but given that you have only two recognised strikers, it's risky to keep playing them both and risk losing either one of them or both to fatigue or injury.

This is highly speculative. I gather your friend is indicating that games are fixed and truth be told, it's not completely unbelievable. Premiership players are paid highly for a reason, so that they do no give in to bribery and corruption. The last time I remember players being charged for match fixing, John Fashanu, Bruce Grobbelar and Hans Segers were accused to have been in cahoots with a MALAYSIAN businessman. Having said that players are paid so much more these days, you'd like to think that match fixing is kept at a minimal. It's also another reason I feel that referees have to paid more handsomely. As it is they get paid what? 800 pounds a game?

Many leagues in the world has been plagued by corruption with the Serie A and Serie B being the most high profile, involving giants like Juventus, Fiorentina, AC Milan, Lazio and Reggina. Then there is also the Chinese and South American leagues but I don't want to stray too far off topic.

last time back in the good ol days refs were only paid for their bus fares to travel to the place where they'll do their job. merely a hobby job. =)
anyways, if they dont try pav and bent together then till when only we'll know they'll be able to play with each other?
wait till we climb further up the table where we're safe (we're back to bottom again) then maybe we can try both up front and modric behind them.
but we really need to get a good DM.

Yes, maybe can buy Lorik Cana, captain of Marseille or Stephen Appiah. Harry really want to sign for Appiah during at portsmouth but pompey is small team and he admit appiah maybe choose big club. Rite now , harry maybe can approach appiah again because spurs is a big club

One of the best keepers in the league over the past few seasons if you ask me. Playing behind dodgy defences hasn't helped his cause. Steve Harper is a decent keeper and for Given to have kept him on the bench all these years proves how consistent he is. Poor bloke had to play behind both Titus Bramble and Jean-Alain Boumsong for a whole season!

i've always think that the keeper is the last man in the team.
no matter who comes in for us, even if cech, he wont save us games cause we need our defense to toughen up. we spend 8 mil on gomes. i dont think we need to buy another keeper.
dont forget, we haven't even tried cesar.

surely he looked lively everytime he came on?
what has happened to him?
even bostock in on the bench for tmr morning's game against dinamo zagreb
but why is it dos santos seems to disappear in thin air?its worrying.
plus, rumours are that we are to swap bale for wayne bridge?

dos santos and bostock are still works in progress and getting used to the EPL pace.

i don't understand all the talk about Bale. he is a solid left back and should be kept at all cost.

BENT seventh goal of the season after grabbing a hattrick against Modric former team. Regarding Dos Santos report saying that he seems injured during training session. Bostock making his appearances at european stage.

P/S:- As long as Bale didn't play for a moment it all gonna be ok....proven in Bolton/Liverpool games. I not like i didn't like him but he's a jinx afterall.

I'm a spurs fanatic and I must admit I like they way Bale play. It just that like what Abangpedro said, Bale have a jinx. It has proven that everytime he play(since he join Spurs 18 month ago),Spurs never win!

Dos Santos need some time to adapt to the english game while Bostock should be in the picture as he was the highly rated player when Spurs grab him from palace.

Next is Man. City! Can't wait!

hmm, he's a great player in my opinion.
not that often-one-tournament-wonder kind of player.
if zenit does lower his price to a realistic one, i hope we'll still be interested.
saw him a couple of times in the CL.
was superb with his ball skills.
certainly would fit in now that pav is here.

Yay another win rclxm9.gif but i'm furious for the last 30min, the team play like shit.....even cities had much threatening chances and lucky our Gomes doing superb.....by subbing out Modric our team become more defensive and it scares me a lot even later cities playin with 9 men....Bale didn't play together with Pav and O'hara maybe 'Arry want to save 'em for next Carling Cup game vs Pool away.

Full point today and definitely off the rock-bottom. rclxms.gif

btw Modric is the shorty one...to me our best player last nite

hmm last nights match really proves what's modric is worth and he can do much better in the future.
once again, gomes showed us the reason we bought him, he'll get his confidence back and definitely we wont be seeking for another keeper anymore.
bale is NOT a jinx. no one realised it till the stats were out the other day so, when he plays next time we will win eventually.
bent on another scoring run. good to see him score like he did in charlton again.

its really amazing what Redknapp has transformed Tottenham into.

wow, really. even a once crappy Bent has transformed into a goal scoring machine, with 11 goals already (if im not mistaken).

meh! all hail redknapp.

if harry actually manages to bring them off the relegation zone, then it shows that Ramos has no caliber to manage the squad (i guess)

basically spurs have a very good team.. i followed this thread awhile ago when ramos was still the manager .. it seems he been playing them out of position ? ... seems very .. actually the team looks good with woodgate, king, modric, huddlestone, pavy et al ...

i believe pavy should be use as an impact player at last 30mins looks promising ...

fantastic performance by our lads again
eventhough liverpool used some of their second tema players but nonetheless torres, alonso n agger featured and we had some of our fringe players too..
well done to campbell and pav.
another welcomed selection headache for redknapp..hope we can continue this run we're in.
gomes had injury to his mouth which explains the bleeding.anyways he's up n running now..just hope that he can sharpen up and not to come for every ball from corners and free kicks again.
great game COYS!

FCUK GOMES!!! I tot after knocked in da head with Degen (is it?)..he might be rested.....why did Arry play this blunder keeper....and Cesar never gonna get chances to play even gomes in hospital oredi..coz he alway fit during the matchday....

Anyway redknapp did remind us all sometime we might ended up losing later...after wonderful starts with him.

Actually anybody know the history of Gomes?
As Harry said he is the only keeper they can rely heavily.. so he will do anything tht can bring the best form of him...(Like sacked the GK coach)
Now i wonder how best he could??

the magic words there are 'the only keeper'.

like the saying goes - in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

so i guess gomes will be able to ride out the whole journey until the transfer window opens...or if somehow their reserve keeper gets better...

He said that because the other goalkeeper in the squad is 37 year told Cesar Sanchez who has had a mediocre career. Gomes was a fan favourite at PSV and unlike with Spurs, was a reliable keeper which sparked interest from English clubs. I really have no opinion as to why he's struggling here though. I mean until Ledley King returned, Spurs were not doing very well defensively but still, he has shown really low concentration levels.

hmm, yet again gonna say this, bale is not a jinx.period.
gomes was OK today. maybe bcz blackburn didn't gave much attacking.
lennon was MOTM. bentley looks lost rite?
anyways, not a very good performance in the second half eventhough we dominated possesion. very glad to have the 3 points.

Latest lineup news for today's game:
- King and Woodgate are rested
- Hutton is out and is slated for surgery which will sideline him for a few months
- Modric and Dos Santos out due to injury
- Corluka is cup-tied.

So I wonder who we will start in Defence. Looks like Dawson, Gunter, Zokora??, Bale?

disappointing loss at WHL. cant seem to understand what's wrong with bentley these days. cant seem to cross the ball properly. overall performance was below par for us. and to all those who's gonna start bout the bale jinx again, NO, we conceded a deflected goal before he came in. and he only played a small portion of the match and we still lost. anyways, still very disappointing..=(

Sigh... another up & down by SPURS...

I felt Corluka & Gomes was the better player in last night's game. Dun understand why Bentley had to play left winger when I felt Bale shud be given the green light to start 1st 11 & why did Zokora started when Bentley can take central role ?

We realli miss Modric... Bent looks like a headless chicken, Pavlyuchenko cant play along with Bent... and Campbell, wow, this kid is brows.gif thumbup.gif great... he had 1 chance nearly to level for us... no wonder Sir Alex dunwan to let him go yet. This kid got a future...

sigh, if we are going to play 4-4-2 next time, it would have been pav and campbell up front. bent and pav really ineffective. and yet again, disgusted with bentley last night, seems like he cant take free kicks or corners anymore. true ihawk98, bale started us off in every attack. and still, i dont think zokora deserves to start.

Seems that strong rumors that Hennessey deal is done for January at £6million.

If it really happens, then we will start to have more Welsh internationals at the back, joining Bale and Gunter who are already here.

Carling Cup draw is complete and my sneaky feeling came through. Our opponent is Burnley, the giant killers who have dispatched Chelsea and Arsenal on route to the semi-final stage. First leg is at the Lane and is scheduled for Jan 6 or 7.

Man U will face Derby in the other semi-final.

we really need new strikers. We need to play with two strikers. I dont see Bent is good enough for spurs.

bentley is really proving himself to be such a fine kicker of the ball. the first half HALF volley was immense. adding to that was his 30 yard free kick drive that literally went for top corner?!

Dawson and Zokora...I always thought they are the ones that slow the team down....Add Gomes to that...But last match they prove me wrong...And I'll gladly accept I'm wrong if they can continue this kind of performance week in week out

I wonder what our first team will look like once we play with two strikers...drop Jenas and play Modric and Zokora in the middle? Or sacrifice one of our wingers to let Modric play?

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed their intention to build a new 60,000-capacity stadium near their White Hart Lane ground.

I got this off the web...

In their financial results released to the stock market, Spurs announced further details of the Northumberland Development Project, a large-scale development incorporating leisure facilities, public space and housing as well as the new stadium.

Chairman Daniel Levy's statement said: "The scheme includes the current site and adjoining land with the stadium sited largely to the north of the existing one."

While the club's financial results made positive reading - for the year ending June 30, 2008, turnover was up 11 per cent and the building of a new training centre is expected to start next year - it will undoubtedly be the stadium plans which please supporters most.

The Tottenham board pushed ahead with proposals for a larger stadium with a season ticket waiting list of around 22,000 but were conscious of the importance of remaining in the Haringey area.

Other sites were considered but ultimately it was decided their current location, plus land adjacent to it, was the most suitable option.

Levy said: "With a waiting list for season tickets of over 22,000 and club membership levels of over 70,000, our need for an increased capacity stadium has been clear for all to see for some time.

"We diligently spent considerable time reviewing our options and the news that our supporters had been waiting for came this month when we announced our intention to remain in Tottenham, confirming the Northumberland Development Project - a world class scheme incorporating a new stadium with a capacity of 60,000, a club museum, new shops, restaurants, homes and important public space.

"Having reviewed our stadium options it was clear that there were a limited number of alternative sites to our current location and following discussions with Council bodies, the LDA, Transport for London and local and central government officials, redeveloping the existing site emerged as the most viable route.

"We have spent five years buying and taking options over property around the current stadium site to enable us to either develop locally or to gain the critical mass to achieve a substantial site sale as a contribution to a relocation.

"To date this includes almost 60 separate property transactions, including 40 residential and potentially 160 commercial properties at a commitment of £44m."

Levy revealed the planning process is likely to begin next year.

"The public consultation period will now begin and we would hope to submit a planning application in 2009," the statement continued.

"I am personally delighted that we have been able to put forward a viable option which we know to be the fans' favourite - remaining at the club's spiritual home."

A business remains a business. We have been linked with Bridge numerous times. And since he was underused by your team, he must be desperate to play first team football. We can provide that.

I understand the rival thing. But strange things had happened before. Smith went from Leeds to Man Utd remember? And no offense, but is your chairman really understand this rival thing?

In current situation, Bridge is better than any of those guys you mention... Left back is not O'Hara natural position so might as well say Zokora (he plays there as well) or Corluka (against Liverpool). And I really admire Bridge quality and I think he could fit perfectly in our team.

But this rumours doesnt start by me. I'm sure I read somewhere that Harry wants Bridge. Lazy to search

looks like Defoe deal almost finalized around £15 million. if they can rush it through, he should be available for selection for Carling Cup Semifinal this week.

funny story developing on the Defoe deal.

there is a clause when Spurs sold him to Portsmouth that if Defoe is sold to another club, Spurs will receive £4million from that sale.

so now Portsmouth is selling Defoe to Spurs, and we want Portsmouth to pay us the £4million...even though WE are the ones buying him.... rclxm9.gif

we take a 4 - 1 lead to Burnley after goals from Dawson, O'hara, Pavlyuchenko and a 'own goal' gift from Burnley.

as long as we keep our shape for the 2nd leg, we should be on the way to Wembley again this year.

that's not true. we had a very lively 1st half with loads of possession. if not for the heroics of David James, we would have at least a goal by half time.

we were also fortunate that Nugent didn't score at the end of first half. tongue.gif

latest news is King has a torn hamstring which means we need another proven central defender. if not, it will be Woody and Dawson the entire season.

hmm, i think i agree with ihawk too.
cz we really looked lively the whole match. loads of chance created.
pav was injured early in the match. and i think the partnership issue can be left our for last night's game. cause understandable defoe wants a goal against his former club so he might well be a bit selfish. anyway if it wasn't for david james, we would have won the game. stoke after this. surely 3 points a must.

Oh let me rephrase...Bent's terrible AND hopeless!!
Cannot justify his hefty price tag.The last winning chance could have fallen to Zokora and he would have scored.
Pav/Defoe is a better combination.Since Bent came on not even 1 decent try from either strikers.
Only consolation to the team is we lost 2 good players so early in the game.
Lennon is our only lively spark. He should play every game.
Tu Bale tak boleh harap.Don't blame the jinx factor anymore....Defend cannot, attack aso so so only. His so called reputation as an attacking full back is long gone. Not even a single decent cross.A loan spell will do him good.Bring Lee back!
Spurs are a miserable bunch this season...8 dissapointing EPL goals this season at home and i really doubt many more will come.Harry surely no magic spell can help you & spurs from an inevitable relegation drop.....

let's face it, i dont think we'll be relegated.
but 1 thing we should do is to sacrifice uefa cup and fa cup cause of the lack of depth.
in these 2 competitions, we could take some risk fielding junior players and discover talents like taarabt and FFS use GIOVANI!!
then our senior team can fight for their lives in the league and as for carling cup? only a game left to wembley so why not?
sell bent during the summer and make some decent signings.

harry need to buy big...
i dont think its a good idea to sacrifice cup...because that is our only hope to get good player...(remember our promise to berbatov? UCL?...why do we sell carrick again?)

we are crap in attacking...harry really need to spend that money on stricker and left winger...bellamy most likely become a new citeh man...arshavin is still up for grab, saviola is available, santa cruz is uneasy in rovers...

if redknapp really want a good left winger, I believe capel from seville is the answer(why do we sell malbranque again?), worst come to worst...just buy duff from newcastle...

we need a good holding midfielder...i heard for a long time that Appiah is training with us...why we never sign him again? i even heard davids is training with us...omg,please just sign em...

well...this is my humble opinion...at the moment spurs have a lot of talent in the squad...where gio? where taarabt? where gunter? ...

and yes, i believe relegation is possible....unless some major changes happen...

we sold Carrick because a "lunatic" team wanted to pay so much for him...it was good business.

arshavin is overated...like Pavlyuchenko. i think they need time to adjust to EPL. Malbranque was an industrious player but the final ball was wanting.

i agree that Appiah could be useful.

for me, i think we need players that can immediately play at the EPL level. we cannot afford adjustment time anymore.

if we progress and win the Carling Cup, then by all means sacrifice FA and UEFA Cup as European football for next season would be guaranteed regardless. EPL survival is vital as it ensures sponsorship and gate receipts.

yeah, but all these regretting stuffs is no longer important to us. most important is staying the premiership itself. we're fighting for our lives and still in all 3 cup competitions. this is ridiculous regarding how small our team is. oh yea, the edgar davis thing, he's wasn't there to train with us. he recommended appiah to spurs.

LATEST NEWS
Team news
Harry Redknapp will be without a number of regulars through injury for Wednesday night's Carling Cup semi-final, second leg at Burnley.

Ledley King (hamstring), Heurelho Gomes (thigh), Vedran Corluka (thigh), Aaron Lennon (groin) and Jermaine Jenas (calf) are all sidelined as we defend a 4-1 lead from the first leg at Turf Moor.

Better news sees striker Roman Pavlyuchenko expected to be fit after picking up ankle injury against Portsmouth on Sunday and left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto is available after suspension.

Harry revealed at this afternoon's pre-Burnley press briefing that Ben Alnwick will start in goal - it will be his debut - and David Bentley will be back on the right side of midfield.

"We've got one or two good players out through injury but we'll still have a strong team out," insisted Harry.

------------------------------------------------------

my immediate thoughts: how sucky must Cesar be that he can't even start in goal for a Carling Cup match....???!!!!

Well, personally I don't think Cesar suck. Its just that Alnwick have a huge reputation prior to joining Spurs and a high stake match against championship club will give him the chance to show what he is worth (or what he is not, hopefully the former will realised then the later)

Even with 4-1 lead, we better be cautious cause Burnley is the gaint killer in this year carling cup.

Possible line up might be Alnwick (GK), Zakora (RB), Dawson (CD), Woodgate (CD), Ekouto(LB), Bentley (RM), Modric (CM), Huddlestone(CM), O'Hara(LM), Defoe (FW) & Pavlyuchenko(FW)...not a bad line up aight?

Lets Go Spurs!

We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement for the transfer of Wilson Palacios from Wigan Athletic.

Personal terms have been agreed and a medical completed, we now await the Honduran international receiving his work permit before completing his registration.

The midfielder made 41 appearances for the Latics after joining in January, 2008 having started the 2007/08 campaign on loan with Birmingham City, where he featured on eight occasions.

The 24-year-old had previously played for Honduran top-flight side Olimpia where he scored 32 goals in 102 appearances.

Spurs are on their way to Wembley,
Tot'hem gonna do it again,
They can't stop 'em, the boys from Tot'hem,
The boys from White Hart Lane...

--------------------------------------------------

Ok, we really shouldn't scare ourselves like that leaving it to extra time to win out. But a win is a win and we get to defend our title this year!

However, we will have tired legs and I feel we will probably not do well this weekend in the FA Cup tie against Man U....

this is a pretty interesting article.

QUOTE

Playing at Old Trafford is often rated as one of the high points of a footballer’s career. But an appearance at Manchester United could signal the end of a few Tottenham careers tomorrow.

Manager Harry Redknapp was furious with the way Spurs almost threw a Carling Cup final place away against Burnley on Wednesday night – rescued only in the dying moments by goals from Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe – and warned a number of players had put their futures at risk.

He also claimed the Wembley clash against Manchester United and Premier League survival must take priority over the FA Cup and UEFA Cup for the remainder of the season.

Redknapp is prepared to risk a thrashing by fielding a weakened side in the FA Cup against United in the hope it will help Tottenham’s chances of securing a vital league victory over Stoke next week.

But his policy has spread fear throughout White Hart Lane, with one club insider describing the players he picks to travel to Old Trafford as “the bomb squad”.

The popular theory within the Spurs dressing room is the majority of the team who take on United can count themselves among the unwanted. Those who sit out tomorrow’s game will feel they have earned a reprieve.

Of the squad he inherited from Juande Ramos, Redknapp has only been totally convinced by defenders Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson and midfielder Jamie O’Hara.

Winger Aaron Lennon and playmaker Luka Modric have impressed in flashes, but concerns remain over their consistency. Striker Darren Bent, who missed the Burnley tie through injury but could be available tomorrow, fears for his White Hart Lane future, while Jermaine Jenas, Tom Huddlestone and Gareth Bale are understood to be at risk.

Kevin-Prince Boateng has already been loaned out to Borussia Dortmund, while Hossam Ghaly is on his way out to Al Nasr and Valencia are confident of landing Cesar Sanchez.

Ideally, Redknapp would like to sign a new goalkeeper – Le Mans’ Yohann Pele is the latest name to be linked – two full-backs, a central midfielder, a left winger and a striker to partner Defoe. Although Defoe is one of the few squad members who are safe, he confirmed there are a number of worried players who are well aware Redknapp is looking to make big changes.

“Football is all about confidence and, at the minute, the lads don’t look that confident,” said Defoe.

“Harry is the manager, he makes the decisions. He can analyse the situation and look at the players and it’s for him to say what happens.

“I’m just one of the players and I’ve come in and I’m trying to do my best for the team. I’m sure the manager will want to bring in his own players and I’m sure he’ll do that.”

Injuries to King, Woodgate, O’Hara, Jenas, Lennon, Heurelho Gomes, Alan Hutton and Vedran Corluka, together with Fraizer Campbell’s ineligibility and Wilson Palacios’s suspension, should spare Redknapp and Spurs from any FA sanctions for not fielding their strongest team against United.

And not even the fact Redknapp is the current holder of the FA Cup, after winning the competition with Portsmouth last season, is likely to sway his thinking.

“Nobody respects the FA Cup more than I do,” said Redknapp. “I was brought up with it and watching the final is one of the highlights of my year. Last year, I put out my best team in every round trying to get to Wembley and we did it.

“But we’re in a position at the moment at Tottenham where the squad is just not big enough to keep playing all these games. We go to Old Trafford before we play Stoke on Tuesday and I’m going to have to patch up any kind of team I can to send out at Old Trafford.

“We’ve had a tough schedule and we are short of strength in depth for the number of competitions we’re in.

“We haven’t got the strength in depth to carry what we’re trying to do. We’re in too many
competitions.

“The Carling Cup didn’t help the league form last year, did it? We got to the final and only won three more Premier League games up to the day I arrived here. I hope it has the reverse effect this year.

“The key is winning league games. Everything is secondary to the Premier League, but the Carling Cup is the next most important thing now because we’re so close.

“This season, in all honesty, the UEFA Cup and the FA Cup are very secondary.”

Cudicini makes Tottenham switch

QUOTE
Tottenham have completed the signing of goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini on a free transfer from Chelsea.

The 35-year-old joined the Blues on loan in 1999 from Italian side Castel Di Sangro and signed a permanent deal a year later, costing the club £130,000.

Cudicini will provide competition for Heurelho Gomes who has been the subject of much criticism this season.

"Chelsea can confirm Carlo Cudicini has signed for Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer," read a Chelsea statement.

"The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Carlo for his years of service and wish him well."

Tottenham paid PSV Eindhoven £7m for Brazilian Gomes in the summer and he struggled with his form initially before a string of improved displays.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has been looking for a goalkeeper ever since reserve team stopper Cesar Sanchez was released earlier this month.

Voted Chelsea Player of the Year in 2002, Cudicini has found his chances limited since Petr Cech's arrival in 2004.

If you guys can get a proper LB to backup Ekotto [or 1st choice ahead of him] then I guess Bale can be deployed as LW no?

We all know he can attack nod.gif but cant really defend well sweat.gif so by having a solid LB behind him so be fine I guess? smile.gif

Defoe out for 3 weeks sweat.gif

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_4874992,00.html

QUOTE
Tottenham will be without striker recently-acquired striker Jermain Defoe for at least three weeks with a foot injury.

The ex-Portsmouth ace scored in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the struggling Potters, but is thought to have injured himself in training on Thursday.

While some early reports suspect Defoe could be out for the rest of the season, it is more likely he will be out of action for just less than a month.

A Tottenham spokesman has confirmed Defoe is "receiving treatment for a foot injury" and that he "should not be out of action for more than four weeks".

The 26-year-old marksman will now miss Spurs' upcoming matches against Bolton, Arsenal and the first leg of their Uefa Cup clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.

With Defoe set for a short spell on the sidelines manager Harry Redknapp may step up his effort to bring former hero Robbie Keane back to White Hart Lane.

are you guys hoping keane wud come back and don the spurs jc once again? i for one am not sure he's the one u guys shud be gunning for. even tho he's still a proven a goalscorer roll back couple years back, but redknapp's tendency to use defoe in games when he's fit wud make buying keane back isnt the best thing to happen isnt it coz their partnership hasnt flourished before (under at least 2 coaches).

the problem was that in the past, Keane and Defoe could not partner well together...which forced Defoe to seek greener pastures. Keane and Pav may work better.

exactly my point. keane and defoe have proven under martin jol n ramos that they dun click together well even tho in essence it's simple enuff 1 feeder (or open play) and 1 the top targetman. but they are too similar of a player that doesnt complement with one another. my opinion is redknapp is really trying too hard and spend in an area where it doesnt really necessitates to spend. they have 4 strikers plus palacios who can play a deep top role as well.he shud put more trust on his current players.

Wonder will Harry try to wave his magic again to make the Defoe+Keane combo working [since it was tested and answer is no, under both Ramos & Jol]? Or you guys prefer different partnership [Pavlyuchenko leading the line with Keane & Defoe rotating for the 2nd spot]?

Keane given Tottenham captaincy

QUOTE
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has made Robbie Keane his side's new captain following the striker's return to White Hart Lane from Liverpool.

The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland star re-signed for Spurs only six months after leaving for Anfield and takes the armband from Ledley King.

"I just felt with Robbie coming in there would be a new impetus with him as captain," said Redknapp.

"He can give an awful lot. He is a big personality and we are a quiet team."

Keane has signed a four-year contract at Spurs, with the fee starting at £12m and rising with add-ons.

He has returned to the club where he made 254 appearances and scored 107 goals between August 2002 and July 2008.

The former Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan and Leeds forward often deputised for King as captain during his first spell with Spurs.

"If Robbie has something to say, he is going to say it," stated Redknapp. "He is a leader and has the personality to be a captain of Tottenham."

Defender King, who is currently sidelined because of a hamstring injury, will remain as club captain but Keane will lead the team.

Redknapp revealed both King and fellow centre-half Jonathan Woodgate, who was appointed captain on a temporary basis, were fully behind the change.

"I have spoken to Ledley, who is injured, and also to Jonathan Woodgate about it and they have been fine about it," added Redknapp. "Jonathan said, 'Nothing will change. I still want to be a leader out there,' which is good."

Redknapp has been one of the busiest managers during the January transfer window, spending £45m to shape his team into one capable of a successful fight against relegation from the Premier League.

With Spurs currently sitting 14th in the Premier League and only a point above the relegation zone, Redknapp is relieved the window has now shut so he can focus on his squad's form.

"I am delighted it is all finished. I hope that this time next season I do not have to bring anybody in during the transfer window, there is nothing I would like better," he said.

"This year, because of our situation, we needed to strengthen the squad and that is what we did. The chairman Daniel Levy has been terrific and been so supportive. I did not think we would get Robbie Keane, I thought there was no way Liverpool were going to sell him but the chairman has worked on that and done well to get him in.

"Now I feel we have got a squad that can push on."

we have the players to win it at home. from past records, Jenas and Adebayor should score....perhaps Keano can cap his return with a goal to let us win 2-1?

yes Keano was el capitan.

we should have been able to put away 10 men arsenal at home. i was particularly impressed with Palacios. he does give our midfield some steel finally.

Should have kept Pavlyuchenko on the field instead of substituting him with Bent. Chimbonda let me down too. Substitutes are supposed to perform as good, if not better, as the players they replaced. Really thought Spurs were going to bag 3 points even when it was already in extra time.

true, chimbonda really performed well below par, lacked pace and ball control.
modric missed a glorious opportunity to take da lead.
anyway, great performance but lacked finishing.

Since Bent came on neither of the strikers made a shoot at goal.
Bad bad decision to sub Pavlyuchenko..he must be dissapointed with Harry.

When Pavlyuchenko got subbed, it was 10 vs 10 on the field coz all i can see is 10 spurs player fighting for every ball while 1 particular player known as Bent was just heading every ball n running around like a headless chicken.

Sigh... disappointing draw. Wish Modric would have pass'ed it to Taarabt in the final minutes of the 1 on 1...
