Me soon, to PC12-NSD.  rclxms.gif

You're using Velo SPL now right? Shouldn't the upgrade path be to at least the PC12+. I thought the NSD series would lose to your SPL.

How about 2 pieces of NSD on each corner of the room?  smile.gif  Try first.
I think my room is too small for PC-12+, but later who knows.
*
Ahh... 2 pieces I see. That changes the scenario. Do let us know how it turns out!

Maybe you're not fated to own an SVS.... just kidding tongue.gif

As suggested why don't u get some of the shipping quotes from jwyj and give them to Erik to double check. Did jwyj send to Brunei or Miri?

But, CHT-12R will be blown miles apart by PC-12Plus (not a fair comparison, I knew). SPL-1200R is near it but still can dig the low enough with tight bass.
*
As you said not a fair comparison since the PC12+ is twice the price (or more) of the CHT-12R. Everything has a price and relative value and if I paid twice more for something new, the new thing better outperform the old one!

In all this talk about sub performance I think we often don't mention the price factor.

When I ask SVS why Axiom can offer such a low shipping, I got reply bad mouthing Axiom products.  I didn't quite expect that.

Sorry wanted to clarify some more. The ref level is -6dB (s6xs9x) or -8dB (htkaki) as set in your receiver volume right?

But what is the actual output from the speakers? Is it 100dB?

May I know does the SVS sub have a digital volume indicator like those new velo subs? thanks
*
Nope. Actually very few subs got digital volume indicator or remote control like the Velo Q series.

The rattling is normally associated with mid-bass. Some subs are tuned to have a peak at this range. And it just loses its balances upon diving below 30Hz.

Most high end sub and well-made sub have a flat tone. This will seams beautifully with your speakers. Anyway, like mys_terious said no right or wrong. It's a matter of personal preference.

I like a sub with flat curve. Easy to integrate and when it comes, it REALLY hit you. If free, come over and you ll know what I am saying.
*
QUOTE(lightning69 @ Jul 2 2009, 10:36 AM)
this type of peak some sub manufacturer intentional tune in to make their sub sound more powerful to hide their sub's weakness.  The end result is user would normally have a turn the volume level down when listen to music as this peak will sound too loud for music.
*
I guess it all depends on the tuning of the sub. If there is an artificial peak in the midbass then not so good.

But what if it is flat to 30 Hz then rolls off sharply after that? I wonder how such a sub would sound like.

Conclusion is that the SVS can go really low. I would prefer if it is a sealed box.
*
Why? Is it because sealed box sounds cleaner?

Is the PC-12NSD designed to operate as 'sealed' by plugging the port? I thought only the plus and ultra models have port tuning feature.

Yes, the SPL is cleaner, less rumbling..  and yes too.. NSD does not have tuning feature.

Maybe I can diy 2 pieces of cylindrical foam or even better ask htkaki to give me 2 pieces from his PC12+.  brows.gif

If the NSD is not designed to have port blocked and you still go ahead to block it I wonder how it will sound like?

No wonder la! smile.gif The woofers on your speakers can't go very low and don't output lots of bass. That's why they are called woofers and not subwoofer.

Adding a real sub makes a whole world of difference. Congrats. Now time to rewatch all those movies and feel the slam!

Yup, sealed subs either don't go as low (in Hz) or even if they can go low the output down low is not as loud as ported sub.

Of course if you want a sealed sub that can go low and go loud be prepared to shell out $$$$ (e.g. JL Fathom).

U can use a rolled up sock as a plug, all u need is to slow down de air movement caused by the driver.
*
Yup can be done with a sock. I wonder how much that will reduce the output of the sub?

There is no setting for this sub when you sealed it unlike PC-12Plus. I wonder how would it sound after 'sealed' (just as curious as jchong)
Agree. I am used to the 16Hz , single port blocked setting for my SVS. Whole last week, I used 'sealed' setting with all ports blocked. For music, it is good. But, it just didn't make the cut for movies. So, I took out the 2 blocks and changed it back to 16Hz.
*
When you do port tuning, apart from plugging the ports you also have to adjust the amp right?

I suppose when sealed it doesn't go as low and as loud for movies. When sealed the tuning is 20Hz?

I'm buying direct from SVS.  I requested then for the shipping quote and so far having problem to ship to miri.  So have to re-quote to Brunei.  I am having very good discount from them because I am combining orders for 2 towers and 5 center speakers with 2 PC12-PLus
*
5 center speakers? Wah using some of them as surrounds ah?

You're also doing like jwyj, going with dual subs thumbup.gif

No difference between 1 or 2 subs when I tried them yesterday.

That's surprising given how many people advocate a dual sub setup.
