Played with the EQ1 over the weekend and it's an impressive bass correction device. It's able to do some serious work in order to give you a flat frequency response (within limits). Here's my before and after graphs:

Note: I believe the EQ1 graphs are smoothed. In future I hope they give option for unsmoothed graph since that gives a more detailed view.

As you can see it works and yes it does provide marginally better result than MultEQ XT in the AVR. In my case I notice a slight improvement in the mid-bass.

Now the real question is: how does a flat frequency response sound like and do you like it? This is very much a personal preference but for me I've always been running a flat-ish graph due to MultEQ XT and I prefer the sound.

it would be more interesting to see the results before/after using REW to measure FR without smoothing since EQ1 charts is smoothed 1/3 octave, supposedly.

Yup, unsmoothed graph would be more detailed.

I ran the svs hot yesterday while watching monsters inc. the scene where CDA destroying the kiddo's socks was explosive.
yes. it is to the AVR. SVS is set to 20Hz, room EQ none, gain 10oclock.
That probably explains the steep roll off at 23 Hz. Thinking of using the deeper tune?

Also, isnt it a hassle to always tune your sub for movies then for music? I've never try it before but i think the mid bass might overwhelm the sound if i were to use a sub for music.
*
I've seen a debate on this issue before. The music camp typically prefers accuracy and fidelity. They like subs which are accurate and the argument is that an accurate sub produces the bass as recorded. They also say that accuracy should also apply to movies as well as music.

So if it is setup to play accurately for music, then it should also play accurately for movies. Theoretically you don't have to have separate tuning for movies and music. After all an accurate sub is just reproducing what is recorded for the movie or music. But the reality is that most people prefer the sub to be hotter for movies, which leads me to think maybe movies and music are recorded differently in relation to LFE. Or the other explanation is that for music people prefer accurate bass, but more movies people want strong / impressive bass. Who knows..?

I can't remember which TelArc CD that has an actual recording of cannons firing. It does warn that at high vol, it cld damage the speakers  sweat.gif  But then again, very rare to have this.
*
That would be the Telarc 1812 Overture. You can read about it here: http://www.classicalcdreview.com/1812.htm

I've mentioned this before, another track that is a good demo for bass headroom/dynamics is the Danley Fireworks recording. Easily downloadable from their website: http://www.danleysoundlabs.com/Finale4.ZIP

Btw, tried the 'Finale4' just now. Vol at -5dB. Those fireworks exploding really tight and solid with enough power. IMHO, one of the best that I'd tried for a sub.
*
Yup, that track is purposefully recorded low so you have to crank the volume up. At -5 dB with your PB13 I'm sure it sounded impressive.

how do I get my PS3 to be able to detect this from the thumbdrive? notworthy.gif

Go to audio, highlight your thumbdrive, then hit triangle button and choose 'display all'. You should see the track listing. Play from 3:00 mins onwards.

I still haven't have the time to enjoy my sub.  Connected it up the other day, tested it with Rambo 4 for a little while, two words - FREAKIN' AWESOME!  Although it didn't shake off the plaster powder off the ceiling, it vibrated the projector screen... laugh.gif

Congrats on the sub!

I know what you mean about vibrating the projector screen... smile.gif
