1) If i were to get a star tortoise, how many hours of sun light do u reckon it should get per day without the aid of artificial lighting?
i've read caresheets here and there but they don't seem to provide me with the exact answer i'm lookin for. =| 2) I've also read that grass and weeds are the best food source of STs but many are feeding them market vegetables which are supposedly not as good as grass. so my question is, what exactly should i be feeding my ST if i were to get one? |

Also you should let them have space to move around a lot to keep their lungs active. That will help with the sickness. so if you cannot have large cages, you should let them out of their cages daily to keep them active. The key...HIGH fiber LOW protien other than grass(hard to find, scare got sprayed racun rumput), carrots are good for vitamin A, i feed Kacang Buncit always.. NEVER FEED broccoli grapes dairy products |

Elongata is the cheapest next bet at around 200 a pc , it's look-alike Indon forstenii is also good !! sigh. hmmm. edit : nvm, read from earlier post by samperth that star not recommended as first Tortoise. =| elongated tortoise would be a better bet apparently. Pet shops don't seem to have them and nobody on this forum has them for sale as well. This post has been edited by liette`: Jan 8 2010, 12:12 PM |

Oh yeah, on another note, I assume that most Elongateds are WCs? With that said, any need to de-worm etc when I obtain a new specimen?

QUOTE(liette` @ Jan 8 2010, 02:51 PM) I know I did not mean you !! I was replying to otjbnk !! Just received PM from her !! As for CB elongata not impossible just rare !! Keep your eyes open and you should find some !! If you in Sabah I can help just not now maybe in a month or two Where the bulk of them hatches !! OR in that manner most sp of tortoise !!! ------------------------------- As for worming unless over populated (poo contain 75 % or more worms ) and tortoise eating less or becoming inactive just leave the worming till later !! As Elongata can live with some of them just fine !! [attachmentid=1388186] About 18 months maybe !! This post has been edited by SAMPERTH: Jan 8 2010, 02:34 PM |

QUOTE(liette` @ Jan 8 2010, 02:59 PM) Alright, thanks for the heads up Sam. A worm-free animal of course will be the best !! But if done wrongly can cause more harm ie. Over-dose , tube down wrong place ....etc Unless really needed just leave it or bring to Vet to do so or get someone who have done it before to show you !!So yeah, back to my previous question, if i really do get a WC elongated, is there any need to de-worm? or not necessary? any precautions i need to take for a WC elongated? QUOTE(zcatz @ Jan 6 2010, 05:06 PM) i got myself 2 RES (i think that the turtle type - the one sell @ pet shop for rm15/pair). last time, stay in small round plastic bin (about 12" diameter) & after about a year, i think it's time to move to bigger place. then i bought 2'x1' aquarium. now the turtle is about 4~5". the problem is now, the turtle look like always in the water. i never see them basking. i setup a place for basking, put some food, but they just get the food & go to water again. is it normal? thanks. |
