one of the best ways to provoke ally snappers into aggression is failure to provide enough water. intentional?

SPCA display or public participation?

not funny! you are forgiven for not knowing, but SPCA (animal welfare movement no?) should know basic stuff about their exhibit.

water level should be higher than the highest point of the carapace to allow the snapper to fully submerge, otherwise they'd be stressed and moody.

I didn't know that not fully submerging your ally snapper in water will cause it to be... well.. snappy. hmm.gif No wonder my lui lui is so lazy. She has so much water in her tank.

Is it the camera or is the snapper's tail green from algae growth?

I'm a member of SPCA...and i admit...we dont really know how to handle shelled reptiles and in general...reptiles...usually people dont abondon their pet reptiles as they are expensive...unlike the mongrels...and some people are really rich and stupid enough to have abononed their pedigrees...thats why they've assigned me to be in charge of the exotic animals...we wouldnt encourage people to keep exotic animals at first...but as when it has become a trend...we've changed from 'discouraging' to 'being responsible towards your exotic pets'...and yes...whenever there's an event being held...those members who have pets will usually bring along their pets to the events for 'some purposes'...but that's what we are practising in SPCA Northern Malaysia...I don't know what my counterparts in Shah Alam doing for their events...

And reptilekingdom was right...we are now working on sheltering the unwanted reptiles...and we are on our way to raising the fund needed and we are planning on shifting our premise...but we still have a long way to go...

All animals get stressed to some degree in any kind of exhibitions. Ive been to some cat's competitions and even those domesticated creatures get stressed. Just coz they seem placid or docile does not mean they arent stressed. Being in captivity itself is already stressful. Anyways, im sure SPCA has the best interest at heart when it comes to animal.

Everything starts from an IDEA.....only can be execute....we will go ask for sponsor from those good samaritans who love herps or animals...maybe we can start from a big bungalow with a piece of land...as reptiles dun nid super huge space like PAWS or SPCA....

its just my opinion...u can agree or disagree...

but for me i think the word ' IMMATURE ' is RUDE...
hope u mind ur words before ur finger touch the keyboard

I think it requires a lot more than just acquiring a land and having the good intention.

The problem with the idea of running and sustaining an animal rescue center is public awareness. For one, a lot of people who decided to dump their animals, will not think about calling the animal rescue center. They just dump them. Just last week, someone i know wanted to ditch his ball python at the side of road, i was like you might as well just kill it yourself, as often they wont survive being not in captivity. So basically, the only way to increase awareness to spend a lot of money and effort to ensure the public knows that such thing as an exotic rescue center exists.

Also alof of these exotic animals require permits, many who purchase them without permits are a bit paranoid to talk to any animal welfare offcials.

I think establishments like SPCA and PAW are able to sustain their operations due to the support from the public. Such as people coming to adopt the animals and paying some fees. There are also volunteer work done by students and the likes. This is not the case with exotic animals as we talking about a niche hobby here. Dogs and cats are acceptable to the general public, snakes and iguanas are not.

no need bungalow or land but a ware house where all the cats, dogs and exotics can be put together.
buy an old ware house is sufficient.

I know its not an easy task to set up a rescue but it is also not impossible...now malaysia reptile keepers are still not much...so its under control...

I like the idea of having a warehouse and make it like an animals last resort after being dumped. At least there are space and also far from the public.
