O2 XDA ATOM LIFE

This topic is specially create to discuss problem and solving of XDA Atom Life.
Hope anybody that knows about 02 XDA Atom Life or having any experience with it before can share
the knowledge among us.. Thanks very much for your support.

Added on October 22, 2008, 3:54 pmi am new with this phone.. meaning to to say i know nothing (n00b) with windows mobile base phone.. i hope you people can help me...

i juz buy 2nd atom life, i found that left speaker doesnt work.. what is the problem and where can i get the sparepart from...

2nd question is... how to create a shortcut from the setting->memory so i can kill the running program faster...
*
1) if ther's still a warranty either from ur seller, or the original warranty, go claim it.
next time, when buying a 2nd hand.... fully check ur good b4 paying.
here's a link to a guide for buying 2nd hand goods: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/534463

2) u can create a shortcut by using apps like file-explorer. but ther's common apps to kill off running programs or free of rams like, taskManager, or FreeRam, or WKtask.... etc apps

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TS, can update ur post title to O2 XDA Atom instead of Atom Life.
Atom life or Exec or Pure or XDA atom are from the same Atom family.....
so we could have a bigger community to help each other icon_question.gif

k... now 1st of all.
wat model are u using?? atom life or exec or xda atom??

things you need to take note of:
-ur sd card format must be FAT16 or on ur desktop, you will see it as FAT

the record button is the small button on the right side of ur pda. the one above ur camera button.

to be precise:
after u copied the Al1.dio file into ur sd card.
press n hold record button --> then you poke n hold the reset button. leave reset button 1st, after bout 1 sec, then you release ur record button.

Hi guys, i plan to upgrade my atom exec to one of the roms given here because of auto shutting problems. Before that, i would like to know if i have backed up my data by activesync can it be restored once i upgrade to the WM6.1? Is it easy to upgrade the ROM on my own? I read in one of the threads that the device can be permanently spoil if we do smtg wrong. Pls advise.
*
well... certainly upgrading ur rom does comes with risk. but if you follow the steps carefully, n make sure all the requirements is met, with a lil luck, i think you wont have any problem smile.gif

personally, i've done like 6-7times of either upgrading or changing different rom builts on my atom life. n i tried both sd flashing method n the dsuu method.
i was a noobie as well.
give me more info 1st, n i see if i can guide u through 1st time.

u can backup data's like calanders, notes, contacts, n so on sync-able data.
plz take note tat personal files like mp3, movie files, sms, mms, pics, images, etc are not backup using activesync.

another thing is, i'm assuming you are using wm5 now. and wm5 supports a different version of active sync.
after you upgraded to wm6 or above, you will need to upgrade ur active sync to version 4.5.

Thank you for helping me out, it will definitely better if u could guide me or provide a link as i'm a newbie in this   blush.gif

The one i highlighted in bold i'm not so clear about it.

That's good since i'm worried about the contacts, notes and calender only. Yes, i'm using WM5 but i'm using active sync 4.5.
*
ok now... the part u highlighted..
is 2 methods of flashing/installing a new rom into ur device.

dsuu mode - ur rom would be in exe file type. and you will need to use ur desktop/laptop to install it in thru the usb cable. this method normally used for OFFICIAL ROMS. havent cam accross any cooked roms that use tis method.

sd card flashing method - no need use desktop/laptop. the rom is in .dio file. you jus need to copy the rom file into ur sd card. then press the buttons n it will automatically install the rom n reboot.

the roms provided in this thread are all in .dio file. so you will be using the sd card method.

When i copy it into my SD and install it from there, will it delete the items in the SD card? Many of my programs are installed in the SD card. Does it mean after copy the .dio to SD card, i go to file explorer and click the application and thats all?

In the first page of the thread, there are many WM6 Roms. Which is the best?
*
ok here's how.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

oh ya... i think you lucky or what la.
i check the roms links ady, all are .exe format.
shud be using dsuu method(easier with step by step update utility but takes a longer time). rclxub.gif

Yup, i just realise it is .exe. I am using a 2GB mini SD. You mentioned .dio method for above 1GB cant but how about the .dsuu method? 2GB ok?

Actually on the second day when i bought the atom, i downloaded smtg from the o2 website to update the ROM i think. I managed to get the WM5 to work but all the pre-installed softwares and the extra softwares were gone. I took it back to the shop because i thought i did smtg wrong. I suppose that was upgrading the ROM process?
*
since you are using dsuu mode. the sd card capacity wont be a problem.
but u will need to make sure you need to have adaquate battery in ur device.

as even though ur pda is syncing thru usb during dsuu mode.
ther wont be any charging.

the rom available on the 1st page are dsuu mode providing a step by step ultility setup.
jus click that n follow the instructions.

its hard for me to say which one is better. cuz... i never use em b4.
but basically, comparing those cooked roms with the official roms.
you will notice of course: better battery life, more free ram for usage, more bundled of useful apps, removal of useless apps from the official roms, increase in performance, etc..

if you are jus looking for a basic n clean rom, with less fancy stuffs n smooth usage + a lot of free rams. then i think u shud choose the 3rd rom by demand.

if u wan a fancy rom which will turn ur exec into something new. then the 1st two rom with touch flo2d will be nice. but those 2 shud have less free rams compared to the clean rom.

n be prepared for some minor bugs in the roms. for me, its not a big issue.
but troublesome at times. example: mayb some broken links in the touch flo. not sure for the exec roms, some bluetooth sending n receiving bugs, active sync auto on, etc... happened in my atom life roms.
but some bugs are solve in later versions.

you can click on the title of the rom to go to the original post at xda-developers forum. you can get more info ther.

sorry, if i change into cooked rom, do my atom life will face auto shut down in remaining battery 25%... since i'm using ori rom... it will have auto shutdown problem when battery reach 25% remaining...

another is, if i perform a hard reset after i change into cooked rom... what will happen.. will it restore to ori rom or it will restore to cooked rom..

if it restore to cooked rom... how can i backup my ori rom?
*
i nvr face any auto shut downs after using cooked roms.
to be precise, my battery last till 1%. and i made a call during 1%, then it shut down. tongue.gif

if you perform hard reset after you change to cooked rom, it will jus reset ur device back to ur fresh copy of COOKED ROM, deleting all the installed apps, and contacts, sms, pics, files... etc....

search for apps like: SPB back up, or Sprite back up.
these back up apps allows u to back up ur device. and allows u to restore even to the previous rom(if your back up is done during the previous rom). or even if you changed phones.

yup... like rkwan67 said. the back up file will be stored at ur sd card.

i personally recommend a simple and stable rom for you.
i'm using TranMinhMan wm6.1 with M2D as well.

but i felt that one is slightly more advance. n had more customizations for M2D. but of course its not hard to learn.
i'm a newbie as well smile.gif

ahnien, what is the best cooked rom for noobie like me?
*
ermm... if you are looking for a simple rom. take tis: PDAVIET ROM WM 6.1 CE OS 5.2.19971 Build 19971.1.2.6 (LITE version) - By TranMinhMan
it will look almost the same as your official rom. without any major changes in interface.
increased in performance, a lot of free ram for ur usage. some useful apps bundle, improved battery performance.

or: PDAVIET ROM WM 6.1 CE OS 5.2.20753 Build 20753.1.4.0 - By TranMinhMan
add in HTC home and HTC home customizer.

refer pic smile.gif

OR... you can opt to get the latest wm6.1 with M2D. which me n rkwan67 is using smile.gif

it looks something like tis:
user posted imageuser posted imageuser posted image

n of course, tis one give less free rams. compared to the ones above.

in that case which is better? Running on flashed or cooked?

What can i do in order to restore the ram to more than 50mb, because one of my friend is using atom exec but his ram is 52.41mb which i was shocked. Mine is just 48.39mb cry.gif  so sad.

How do i go about icon_question.gif

is there  any memory optimizer freeware? the last i was using was a program called "memmaid". This program is very good indeed but sadly its just trial edition.

FLASHing/FLASHED rom - is like INSTALLING a rom into your PDA.

COOKED - is a total different thing. ITS JUS A TERM GIVEN BY THE ROM COOKERS TO ROMS WHICH IS MODIFIED/TWEAK. example: COOKED ROM(means tis rom has been modified/tweak).

the available ram differs from each different device using different roms/os.
i bet ur fren used cooked roms. ask him to share his rom file with u. then you flash it into ur device.
you will get the same free ram as well.

ram issue is quite common for most atom series. since the device comes in stock with onli 64mb ram.

erm, using Atom Life doesnt have mic problem anyway..

bro, flash n cooked is just 2 different things..

Added on November 12, 2008, 12:37 pmok, cooked is other forum member that dump official rom n tweak it to be better .. then cook it bak into a nice rom..

then we download the rom n flash it to our XDA..

Added on November 12, 2008, 12:39 pmi really does have much complaint bout my atom life..

so far so good.. mayb keep on update my rom..

what my complaint is part r easily spoil. Speaker n battery is the most. stylus will break easily. i oledi using 3rd stylus already. 2nd battery. while right speaker no sound.
*
ermm.... some how... till now, i'm still using the 1st stylus n 1st battery. nothing spoilt yet...
din use much stylus after flashing in new rom. got ENLARGED start menu, M2D, and resco keyboard.
can do everything with the finger ady.

thx rkwan67 for helping me out in this thread notworthy.gif

Does anyone have problems when you make/receive calls whereby the other party always complain that you're not loud enough. Seems like Atom Exec mic is not strong/sensitive enough. Is there anyway of increasing the mic sensitivity or maybe change to another mic?
*
well... you shud try doing some manual cleaning, by clearing the dust at the openings to the speaker and mic.

if its still under warranty. then can take to service center for a check up.

but then.... service center is closing down by the 15th of tis month. n not receiving any repairs until a new company gets the contract from MWG/O2.

my atom life din have such problems either.
n i always use the speaker phone.

Ah nien, i would prefer a clean ROM. SO i will pick the 3rd choice by demand. However, i went through the link earlier ( i viewed the full thread) and it stated there are some problems (if u see pg3) and the TS has not replied.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435010

I also found this thread but i'm not sure if it is the same. There are many links here and i'm getting confused on which ROM to pick.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419966

Btw, i backed up my WM5 by using SPB backup. So if anything goes, wrong, i just restore this back right?

One more thing, the link from demand is it WM6 or WM6.1?
*
ok now... the 2nd link you gave me asking whether its is the same...
ignore that link. thats for "kitchen rom cooking". kinda advance. not for us noobs blush.gif

while for the problem you mentioned, emm i dont know which one you talking about.
can quote it out??

actually you can install those with roms with m2d, in built.
but you can opt not to run m2d. tongue.gif then it becomes clean oso... hehe

if anything does goes wrong, be sure that your spb backup file is in ur sd card. then run that file.
and it will auto restore your device.
when restoring, it shud ask you to restore under what mode(got a few modes, phone upgrade mode, rom upgrade mode, etc. i 4got ady. its something lidat). you shud choose rom upgrade mode...

Ok, the problem is actually is stated in post 24, 25 and 27
the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...t=435010&page=3

May i know what is m2d?  blush.gif Oh i forgot, is it WM6 or Wm6.1?
*
M2D stands for "Manila 2D" or "Manila Touch FLo 2D".
which is another version of "Touch Flo 3D" from HTC devices created by enthusiast for non-htc devices.

refer to: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=21324189

the pics i've uploaded(refer to the bottom 3 pics). that is M2D interface. which makes ur device looks like htc devices interface.

the problem stated in post 24 mentioned that the problem probably occurs due to installation of some other apps which crashed with the rom.

while the problem stated with post 25 n 27 is regarding a bug with A2DP. which doesnt enable songs or wat media files to be listened from a bluetooth headset.

hmm... it dint mention its a wm6.1 or wm6.
but for sure, its atleast wm6 if not the other.

In ur previous post u mentioned that i can install with m2d but choose not to use it. That's better since i have more options. Pls tell me how to disable it once i upgrade the rom  biggrin.gif

In that case, i will pick option 2 since i downloaded it few days ago. The deposit file link for the 3rd option keeps on saying slots for your country is all used.

Any other important info i should know before changing the ROM? Plan to do today. tongue.gif
*
its easy. you jus have to disable it at your today-plugin.
start menu > settings > personal tab > today

in Today > Items tab > untick TouchFLO

a basic check list.
make sure you've back up all the stuffs.
-contacts, pics, important notes, sms, mms, videos, docs..... what ever that is important

read again the installation steps. and make sure you are clear with the steps needed.
make sure you read properly the instructions, n know which flashing mode you are using(dsuu mode or sd card flashing)
dont miss a step.
be patience, dont started to panic when it loads slower/no response. n dun start pressing buttons, taking off the battery, etc.... it may b normal.

make sure ur battery is atleast 70% full.
hmm... did i miss anything..
