- Battery over 70%, MiniSD is smaller than 2G, format FAT16 (on PC is FAT).
- Download and extract with the password below, copy file AL1.DIO to MMC.
- Press Record + Reset, leave Reset first => ***MiniSD Detected*** => waiting 100%, Atom Life auto reset and you have new ROM!

i try many times and not even 1 time sucesses..
i do not know where is the record button... sweat.gif

after upgrade this 3rd party rom, is it possible to downgrade to the original rom?

thx.. notworthy.gif

k... now 1st of all.
wat model are u using?? atom life or exec or xda atom??

things you need to take note of:
-ur sd card format must be FAT16 or on ur desktop, you will see it as FAT

the record button is the small button on the right side of ur pda. the one above ur camera button.

to be precise:
after u copied the Al1.dio file into ur sd card.
press n hold record button --> then you poke n hold the reset button. leave reset button 1st, after bout 1 sec, then you release ur record button.

Hi guys, i plan to upgrade my atom exec to one of the roms given here because of auto shutting problems. Before that, i would like to know if i have backed up my data by activesync can it be restored once i upgrade to the WM6.1? Is it easy to upgrade the ROM on my own? I read in one of the threads that the device can be permanently spoil if we do smtg wrong. Pls advise.

well... certainly upgrading ur rom does comes with risk. but if you follow the steps carefully, n make sure all the requirements is met, with a lil luck, i think you wont have any problem smile.gif

personally, i've done like 6-7times of either upgrading or changing different rom builts on my atom life. n i tried both sd flashing method n the dsuu method.
i was a noobie as well.
give me more info 1st, n i see if i can guide u through 1st time.

u can backup data's like calanders, notes, contacts, n so on sync-able data.
plz take note tat personal files like mp3, movie files, sms, mms, pics, images, etc are not backup using activesync.

another thing is, i'm assuming you are using wm5 now. and wm5 supports a different version of active sync.
after you upgraded to wm6 or above, you will need to upgrade ur active sync to version 4.5.

Thank you for helping me out, it will definitely better if u could guide me or provide a link as i'm a newbie in this blush.gif

The one i highlighted in bold i'm not so clear about it.

That's good since i'm worried about the contacts, notes and calender only. Yes, i'm using WM5 but i'm using active sync 4.5.

ok now... the part u highlighted..
is 2 methods of flashing/installing a new rom into ur device.

dsuu mode - ur rom would be in exe file type. and you will need to use ur desktop/laptop to install it in thru the usb cable. this method normally used for OFFICIAL ROMS. havent cam accross any cooked roms that use tis method.

sd card flashing method - no need use desktop/laptop. the rom is in .dio file. you jus need to copy the rom file into ur sd card. then press the buttons n it will automatically install the rom n reboot.

the roms provided in this thread are all in .dio file. so you will be using the sd card method.

When i copy it into my SD and install it from there, will it delete the items in the SD card? Many of my programs are installed in the SD card. Does it mean after copy the .dio to SD card, i go to file explorer and click the application and thats all?

In the first page of the thread, there are many WM6 Roms. Which is the best?

Yup, i just realise it is .exe. I am using a 2GB mini SD. You mentioned .dio method for above 1GB cant but how about the .dsuu method? 2GB ok?

Actually on the second day when i bought the atom, i downloaded smtg from the o2 website to update the ROM i think. I managed to get the WM5 to work but all the pre-installed softwares and the extra softwares were gone. I took it back to the shop because i thought i did smtg wrong. I suppose that was upgrading the ROM process?

since you are using dsuu mode. the sd card capacity wont be a problem.
but u will need to make sure you need to have adaquate battery in ur device.

as even though ur pda is syncing thru usb during dsuu mode.
ther wont be any charging.

the rom available on the 1st page are dsuu mode providing a step by step ultility setup.
jus click that n follow the instructions.

its hard for me to say which one is better. cuz... i never use em b4.
but basically, comparing those cooked roms with the official roms.
you will notice of course: better battery life, more free ram for usage, more bundled of useful apps, removal of useless apps from the official roms, increase in performance, etc..

if you are jus looking for a basic n clean rom, with less fancy stuffs n smooth usage + a lot of free rams. then i think u shud choose the 3rd rom by demand.

if u wan a fancy rom which will turn ur exec into something new. then the 1st two rom with touch flo2d will be nice. but those 2 shud have less free rams compared to the clean rom.

n be prepared for some minor bugs in the roms. for me, its not a big issue.
but troublesome at times. example: mayb some broken links in the touch flo. not sure for the exec roms, some bluetooth sending n receiving bugs, active sync auto on, etc... happened in my atom life roms.
but some bugs are solve in later versions.

you can click on the title of the rom to go to the original post at xda-developers forum. you can get more info ther.

i nvr face any auto shut downs after using cooked roms.
to be precise, my battery last till 1%. and i made a call during 1%, then it shut down. tongue.gif

if you perform hard reset after you change to cooked rom, it will jus reset ur device back to ur fresh copy of COOKED ROM, deleting all the installed apps, and contacts, sms, pics, files... etc....

search for apps like: SPB back up, or Sprite back up.
these back up apps allows u to back up ur device. and allows u to restore even to the previous rom(if your back up is done during the previous rom). or even if you changed phones.

SPB backup will backup the files into ur memory card first. then when u connect ur phone to ur pc via activesync. then it will copy it to ur pc if u have desktop version of spb backup.

im using Atom life now.. pdaviet.net got a lot of ROM update but the website is in Vietnamese. using the latest TranMinhMan Manilla 2D rom.

yup... like rkwan67 said. the back up file will be stored at ur sd card.

i personally recommend a simple and stable rom for you.
i'm using TranMinhMan wm6.1 with M2D as well.

but i felt that one is slightly more advance. n had more customizations for M2D. but of course its not hard to learn.
i'm a newbie as well smile.gif

ermm... if you are looking for a simple rom. take tis: PDAVIET ROM WM 6.1 CE OS 5.2.19971 Build 19971.1.2.6 (LITE version) - By TranMinhMan
it will look almost the same as your official rom. without any major changes in interface.
increased in performance, a lot of free ram for ur usage. some useful apps bundle, improved battery performance.

or: PDAVIET ROM WM 6.1 CE OS 5.2.20753 Build 20753.1.4.0 - By TranMinhMan
add in HTC home and HTC home customizer.

refer pic smile.gif

OR... you can opt to get the latest wm6.1 with M2D. which me n rkwan67 is using smile.gif

it looks something like tis:
user posted imageuser posted imageuser posted image

n of course, tis one give less free rams. compared to the ones above.

i have a small problem here, i think there is something wrong with my device. The total available ram is 48.39mb only. What can i do to get more ram space. One of my friend told me to upgrade the OS.

by the way, im still unsure what it mean by the term "flash", "cooked". Seriously i have no idea about this. Someone can..... icon_rolleyes.gif

mine afta flash to 3rd party rom also juz have 50MB of RAM..

it is normal.

Flash is mean to format a new windows mobile into ur phone..

cooked mean they make their own 3rd party rom.
