QUOTE(Pewufod @ Jan 12 2011, 09:41 PM) damn aleune im really tempted to jump the ship with you now that i saw gtx 485m Added on January 12, 2011, 9:46 pmoh no only 1 hdd bay for the 8150 ? Yes, I love GTX485 too. Yeap, only 1 HDD slot in 8150. No worries, a single SSD with SATA III (SF controller) has 500MBps bandwidth. It will pretty much get rid of the bottlenecks. (I doubt normal applications can max out 500MBps of bandwidth). If you need more storage space, use external drives via USB3.0. This post has been edited by ALeUNe: Jan 12 2011, 09:54 PM

QUOTE(Pewufod @ Jan 13 2011, 02:27 AM) after considering the price of a single 485m i think i will wait out for the 6970m since it probably will cost much lesser Radeon 6970 seems like a good alternative. The main concern is, driver. ATI has had bad driver support. There are still many unsolved issues.

QUOTE(This is a Lamp @ Jan 13 2011, 11:16 AM) Actually, if its similar to the NP8690, 2 HDDs are possible. If the BIOS is flashed with the 17" BIOS with the CD drive swapped with an optical HDD caddy, then a secondary drive is in effect But then again, you lose the ability to read CDs Hmmm... good idea indeed. I can live without CD drive. Has anyone done that? Could you please post the link on flashing the 17" to the 15" notebook? I would like to read that. Thanks.

QUOTE(This is a Lamp @ Jan 13 2011, 03:59 PM) Couple of sources I found, mostly leading to just normally flashing the NP8790 (W870CU) BIOS to the NP8690 (W860CU) BIOS. Many users have done it with success. Both BIOSes are essentially the same, with the NP8790's having more flexibility and extra features e.g. RAID, HT disabling. Raid 0 Sager NP8690 BIOS W860CU W870CUThis thread's for replacing the CD drive with a secondary HDD caddy: HDD Caddy W860CU
BIOS available here: Clevo BIOS ThreadIt sounds feasible to me since it has the same chipset and VGA. It should work. Thanks for the links. I'll go study it.

QUOTE(Mucro.Asia @ Jan 15 2011, 08:16 PM) We can "pricematch" anyones price if the shipping option used is POS Malaysia. Just ask if you were quoted where, when and how much and we *should* be able to offer a lower price provided the shipping used is POS Malaysia. Please remember that our costs are higher because we are using experienced service centres and we need to pay them everytime you have a warranty issue. Also, we have to use Sager's warranties as it is safer to get cover from them. When you have serious warranty problems, we will ask you to send the laptop/defective part to our office in Singapore, you do not need to send back to the USA. Shipping back to you is free as long as it is covered during warranty period. You might need to pay for shipping to the USA if you are using a US reseller. Remember our prices have the OS included and you need to remove the OS for a better comparison with the US resellers. Also Sager says physical damage is not covered so it would be best if you call up a local insurance company to cover the accidental/physical damage for your laptop. Yeap, I'm happy with the price and the full insured delivery via DHL.

QUOTE(This is a Lamp @ Jan 19 2011, 09:49 AM) May be an owner of the NP8130 soon, if my current laptop deal goes well tomorrow If my salary comes in time, might even fork in the GTX 485m in~~ Oh my heart died just then haha I have already placed an order for 8170. Anxiously waiting mine too. P/S I think 8170 bios will not work on 8150. It has different chipset, HM67 & HM65. This post has been edited by ALeUNe: Jan 19 2011, 10:48 AM

QUOTE(soundsyst64 @ Jan 19 2011, 10:52 AM) I opt for NP8150 which can upgrade to GTX 480M, but not sure if this model able to upgrade future GPU like GTX 500 series. nVidia just launched GTX485 2 weeks ago. It is still uncontested as we speak. Radeon 6970 is nowhere to be seen too. I guess nVidia is not in the rush to launch GTX5xx. We'll prolly see that in next 6 months.

QUOTE(soundsyst64 @ Jan 19 2011, 06:02 PM) NP8150 version is a good choice if you wants to upgrade your CPU+GPU to newer one You mean upgrade the CPU from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge? Unlikely. Current Sandy Bridge is run on Huron River (Series 6 chipset). Ivy Bridge will run on Chief River (Series 7 chipset). Probably a different CPU socket. It's possible to upgrade the GPU though.

QUOTE(This is a Lamp @ Jan 19 2011, 07:39 PM) If you have the money to spare, then yes. But to me, even the lowest grade Sandy Bridge is able to outperform the i7 by a lot. The designs of both are good, and durable. But you can't ONLY compare from the design itself; what do you want for your needs is the question you need to ask yourself. Things like, do I need two/three hard disks? Do I prefer a 17" screen than a 15.6" screen? However, in terms of temperatures, the 8170 would be superior due to its metal casing. It will definitely absorb the heat build up. ----- And on a side note, my current NP8690 will say its goodbyes... to a new owner SB i7-2630QM is faster than any Nehalem i7 (including i7-940XM). 17" Sager should have a bigger hsf. That should help in heat dissipation.

QUOTE(Dell2011 @ Jan 20 2011, 05:46 AM) Is it risky owning a Sager? I mean its a wonderful computer, looks great, wonderfully built and extremely customizable....but, paying $300-$500 on postage, and you also end up paying $100 for postage insurance. Have any of you had to send your Sagers back to the States for repair? Mucro offer full insured postage and super fast delivery (by DHL). The postage is about RM300+. If you are paying RM6-8K on a notebook, paying RM300+ on postage is not a really high cost (it's super fast delivery + fully insured). If you purchase from Mucro, you can send it back to Mucro Singapore. This post has been edited by ALeUNe: Jan 20 2011, 08:45 AM

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Jan 21 2011, 11:41 AM) They can get it ready by early of February. It works like Dell, manufacture on order but not pre-order. Yes, same applies to Sager - order but ready by early Feb. Added on January 21, 2011, 11:47 amQUOTE(This is a Lamp @ Jan 21 2011, 11:41 AM) That's weird...it has a good processor + GPU but comes with only a 32bit OS and a 5400RPM drive But I guess having the 485m and the 2720QM is a good trade off from the lackluster components. Is that a Clevo though? Kinda looks like the P151HM Look at the specs, the number of USB 3.0 / USB2.0 / esata / HDMI / DVI / Spdif out. It does look like Clevo. Added on January 21, 2011, 11:55 amThose who want to get 8150/8170, drivers are not available at Sager website. But you can get it from Clevo website. http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/down...e=9&submit=+GO+This post has been edited by ALeUNe: Jan 21 2011, 11:55 AM

QUOTE(skycrawler @ Jan 21 2011, 12:37 PM) Tq dude..btw, is dis online shop reliable? http://sgcubehubs.comThat should be good. I find it has higher price for 2nd year warranty for parts. Mucro is cheaper (all-in price). I find SGCubehubs has Lenovo Y460 with i7-2720QM with Radeon 6550. Is it the first i7-2720QM we see?
