Well, just have a nice talk face to face, it'll be alright or else the problem will prolong.

Ear plugs... or…..

Install a false ceiling then fill it up with sound-proofing material or foam... but it depends on your unit height coz if the ceiling is too low a false ceiling will lower it even more.

user posted image

If you have the space and budget for cornice and lighting a false ceiling can also enhance th look of your apartment.

bang their door
and put some smelly rubbish at their doorstep with warning notes...
"Learn to respect others or you'll be in trouble the next day!!!!"

hehehe....
no larr...
i've faced the same problem some years ago...
what i did? i went to talk to the occupants...
unfortunately...
they are Cambodian and Myanmarian....
worked at factory nearby...
dunno how to speak Malay or English....
so i just use the "shut up" sign...shhhhhhhhh!
and indicate that i'm the one who stays below their unit....

fortunately....
its not that they keep silent the following months...
but i've heard that police and relevant authorities did raid their premise...
together with other premises...
where those immigrants are found guilty for not having proper legal documents working in our country....

lucky me then...

just knock door and ask them be polite lo... if they wanna to be rude, then nothing can be do...

like opposite my house's indian neighbour, previously having praying quite oftenly and his house have a small temple... and they start the events, visitor coming in, and the neighbour become "bomoh" or "monkey king", scream there scream here, fly there fly here... sweat.gif doh.gif especially the screaming sound caused the ignorance to all the neighbour and other neighbour's children starting to shout with the "bomoh" together... i took a short video clip how the neighbour scream and scream... shakehead.gif but now started dont have such events anymore, so temporarily i just forget it 1st... if have the events again will record it down, wait till i felt the most ignorance feeling kicking in i will report to police with video clip and request them to dismantle the small temple from our neighbourhood

agree with this. not really confrontational, just politely direct tongue.gif if u ask the mgmt they will very likely know its you who complained. some ppl r just not sensitive.

my personal experience, i stayed in a condo once n this apt upstairs got ppl, pull the chair, pull the table, running all over up n down the stairs, slam the door, from 1am to 3am. the upstairs fella have guests staying over cos got wedding the next day. i 'yan' until cannot tahan edi... mad.gif next day got meeting wif boss somemore....

daytime still can accept n use diplomacy. 1am until 3am, diplomacy n politeness, everything went out the window. went up direct n shouted at them blush.gif my face already told them what i wanted to say.... then there was peace.........

I dont thnk management will help on this kind of issues. Putting up notice at the lift is one of the solution. Or maybe mailbox notice.

Are the ppl upstairs tenants ? Enquire from the mgt office the tel no. for the owner if those ppl r renting. A word from the owner is normally enough.

u might as well go c the owner yourself n approach them diplomatically then. if u ask the mgmt to talk to the fella upstairs they would know its u who complain n who knows what they might do if they r not happy. worse case scenario, the mgmt tell them u complain they r noisy doh.gif u won't want that right.

1)put a notice after smashing his car that reads :
"DON'T BE SO f***ING NOISY AT NIGHT YOU *******"

2) if problem still persists, splash red paint at the front of the unit with red words :
"THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING!!!!"

3) if all else fails, knock on the door, chat with the owner, and tell him it's disturbing. cool2.gif

So ganas... shocking.gif icon_question.gif

People probably don't mean to sound like a herd of elephants; they just don't know it's a problem. Talk to them... nod.gif or if paiseh leave them a polite note on their door (minus red paint) rolleyes.gif

The noise is part and parcel of living in condos and other high-rises, your ceiling is somebody's floor.

Options available:-

Aggressive Approach

1) Tell them and they keep it down...

2) Gather evidence (recordings of the noise, neighbor testimony, etc) and get the police involved. Preferable when they have a party or function it's sure to be noisy and will bolster your case (diabolical muahahahaha) Nothing like having the cops bust up a function thumbup.gif

Pacifist Approach

3) They ignore your complains and you soundproof your ceiling... problem solved thumbup.gif

4) You move out and buy a landed house... sweat.gif

It's an inherent property of the structure...

I'd like to point out that noise travels or bounces off the hard surfaces like cement, glass and metal. The building materials have a poor sound dampening quality.

IMHO most of the people who complain about noise in high-rise dwellings are probably first timers experiencing a different environment.

Most are unaccustomed to living in close quarters and they’re bound to pick up personal noises like people walking/talking cool.gif don't expect silence. sad.gif

The management office is powerless to do anything unless the neighbors are jerk’s screaming at the top of their voice, drilling at night or set the TV/Radio volume too loud.

you might didn't know that you also making some noise or sound to the lower units of your apartment.
this could be cause by lower grade of material use to build the floor or thinkness of the floor is too slim

if ur the nice type of guy, bring them food as a token of frenliness, slowly talk cock sing song.

ahh neighbours, problem all the time. luckily my house no neighbours as of yet due to the new area.

Knock nail into the wall = Renovation ???
This is funny...

Anyhow, apartment management cannot do anything if the person keep knocking nail into the wall

Not if the volume can fight a nightclub with deaf/mentally not right neighbours - till 3 houses away still can hear perfectly. Oh and the word shame is not in their dictionary.

At least apartments can cari the management office.

Private landed house, apa boleh buat? doh.gif

If the sound come from speaker, or music item, the neighbor may be reasonable to adjust the volume.

But if the upstairs neighbor is using heavy wood chair, its difficult to control the volume. And its not reasonable to ask neighbor to change their dining chair... Any way we can sound proof the ceiling? (If yes, roughly how much to install the sound proof stuff?)

simple solution, cost about RM3.6k.

1. Buy a Bugera 6262-212
2. Buy cheap electric guitar.
3. Turn amp on, set to lead channel, volume and gain on 10. (location of amp doesnt matter, this baby can play stadium merdeka unmiced.)
4. Play guitar.

I did this with my noisy downstairs neighbours. I live in a condo too. Now they shut up. True story. Sometimes the only way is to just show them how damn annoying it is.

Thanks for the true story.. but the upstair neighbor use heavy chair unintentionally to disturb the bottom neighbor...
So, wondering if there is a way to reduce/eliminate the sound from upstair neighbor

I also face neighbor from hell! I don't know how many people lives upstairs of my condo unit but the constant slamming of doors, things dropping on the floor, kitchen and wardrobe doors slamming, etc. The noise just go on and on night and day. There was this once, they was hammering something on the wall at 2am in the morning, can you believe that? What so urgent that you need to nail it immediately? Did the sky falls down?

I thought of confronting them, but if I do that I am afraid they will retaliate with louder noises, then it will be living hell x 2.

I can't move away because I just bought this unit and has bank loan to serve (lock in period 5 years). I blame myself for not carefully 'listen' when I view this unit. I have no $$ to relocate or buy anther house.

I am a law abiding citizen. I don't create problems or noises for others. Even at home, my TV volume is always on the low side, I sleep early, I am careful and don't bang door or drop things on the floor.

I feel like banging the door back...but I keep telling myself, if I do that, the neighbor below me will suffer. It has to end with me taking this 'heat'.

I honestly don't know what to do. I talked to the management but they don't seems to be doing anything at all.

Every time they slam the door, my heart skip a beat. I literary jump up from my seat.

This world is full of crazy people and I am so unlucky to have those on top of my head.

I think sooner or later I will either go crazy or have a heart attack. Can someone please SAVE ME?

The only solution I can think of is to work hard, save $ and pay off the loan ASAP and get a landed property at somewhere remote and quiet place. Only God knows what will happen from now until then...

i don't think it is easy to catch them with the sound when viewing blink.gif

anyway, i have the same concern there, but recently the noise has been reduced; for me, as long as it is not wee hours, it is fine.....

Thanks Calmaman, Leongal and Bukanmain.

I went upstairs and try to 'talk' to the family but they slammed their door on me. These are nasty and uncivilised people indeed.

Cellulose installation seems to work on cooling a house, doesn't seems to work to insullating noises. Moreover, I think it is expensive (sigh..$$). To be honest, I do not wish to invest further into my condo unit as I plan to relocate after the 5 years or when I saved enough $$.

I will try to talk to the management again but they seems to be helpless and oblivion to my sufferings every time I approached them. To them, I am the problem causing guy instead of upstair neighbours. Yet I clear my condo maintenance fees promptly.

Sleep deprivations and constant noises have taken a toll on my health and attention span.

Noises seem to intensified after my 'visit' to their unit. Last night, they banged their bedroom door at 3am++, not sure because of the World Cup or what. Feel like marching up to their house, bang on their door and have a huge argument with them vmad.gif But I keep telling myself surely there is a better way to resolve this than to argue with people because argument or anger just trigger negative emotions, and in the long run will, I believe, will cause heart problems, hig blood pressure or even cancer.

I moved to another room to sleep (from Master bedroom) but noises are still there. cry.gif Why did they make the walls so thin?

Another thing is that they love to drag chairs on the floor. All my chairs are fitted with those rubber sole so that it doesn't make any sounds when dragged.

I am sorry to rant here but I just don't know what to do...I would appreciate any constructive suggestions or any effective actions taken by fellow sufferers like me.

Obviously Rick, they didnt respect you, you need to bring along someone that they afraid/respect.If you got police friend , ask to accompany you with full uniform and talk to them. Im sure they will not dare even to dropped a pin in the future.

The management office is powerless to do anything unless the neighbors are jerk’s screaming at the top of their voice, drilling at night or set the TV/Radio volume too loud.

So ganas...  shocking.gif  icon_question.gif

4) You move out and buy a landed house...  sweat.gif

Even a landed terrace can face annoying problem, eg: neighbor pipe vibrating and making loud noise, to make thing worst, they tend to bath early in the morning around 5am.

The water piping is hiding inside the wall, when it resonance, it will create a very loud noise.

I see. The sound is coming from their masterbed bathroom, which the water comes from the water tank hiding inside house ceiling, plus the noise just happen recently, rough guess is their piping/valve degraded ady.

not sure, like my brother, my brother to a by pass the water tank directly to all bath room for better pressure.

mostly landed will do by pass like this since many installing own central main filter

it is stupid for syabas only allow direct main to kitchen tap and garden tap only.

I thought water that direct go up to upper floor will have weaker pressure compare to those flow down from water tank...
Perhaps i will do bypass in the future when the water tank dirty level is unbearable, right now still ok tongue.gif

depends on your neigbourhood elevated water tank. if those high like 6 storey high, then the pressure is almost the same from ground to 3rd floor. but still need to know how heavy usage at your area. but best pressure still after midnight.

My upstairs neighbour everyday doing weight lifting and throwing the bar bells on the floor. When I complained to the security guard, they checked and told me no noise. It is very hard to catch the culprit, don't know which unit above mine. Checked with the unit directly above mine and she said its not her. It is annoying because the noise only lasted for about 3 seconds and very loud. Interval about 35mins-1 hr and 7- 8 times per session . Crazy neighbour doing it from 11PM to 3 AM. Sometimes in the early morning bout 630AM. Sometimes in the afternoon, or evening. Complained to condo management but nothing being done. Don't know what else can do...every night can't sleep well caused by the sudden loud noise. Help!

Talked to the upstair neighbour, she doesn't stay there but occasionally come to check on her unit.. she also heard the sound and its the floor above her..means 2 floors above mine..if that the case, then its super loud that I can hear it 2 floors below..That unit is rented out..
The guard that went to check even said it could be the floor below mine..but what I heard seems to be from above..unless the whole building vibrates to that sound..

Argghh so frustrating, I slept at 4AM yesterday...I jot down the time it happens 11:15PM, 11:58PM, 12:33AM, 1:11AM, 1:49 AM, 2:27AM, 3:06 AM
Then i noticed the pattern.....after 12:33AM, the interval is 38 mins, when i called the guard at 3:06AM to check..it was too late...we waited for the next interval..but that was the last for that nite.. so geram!

easy for you because u know which unit causing it..sometimes ppl do renovation very loud drilling sound, we also not sure where the sound come from whether its from right ,left, top right, top left or other units..
now i need to find out the culprit..talking to the security guard also no use...u call them, they go and check ..no sound..that's it..the most they can do is to wait for 10-15 mins outside the suspected unit..they also scared the owner scold them..

complain first and get your neighbours complain too. maybe ask developer to rectify since it's still 2 year "new". well, good luck. so, you suspect it's not weight lifting / throwing now?

So I got the same issue, neighbor above doing something like fixing furniture, walking, dropping metal stuff at 2-3 am repeated. So If you try to knock them with stick, they bite you back saying you are making noise...bla bla bla. Since it is intermittent noise, it is hard to catch them on red hand. I been discussed with them, some of the family members are good, but not all will stay silent at midnight especially young one with bad temper.

I been go through a lot with them, and from my experience you are advised not to knock them back (broom stick or any tools), later they will say you making noise.

the best is find some hidden cam/phone cam/sound recorder, walk to their unit at midnight (during making noise), complain to them, trick them to admit they are conducting noise at midnight remember to take video with their face. It will become good proof to show it to management or judges. So lucky I got one video they admitted fixing some IKEA thing at 4am, now uploaded to youtube in private mode.

So bad living with low quality neighbor. check this, German are not allowed to vacuum at Sunday (https://www.angloinfo.com/blogs/germany/life-off-the-autobahn/never-vacuum-on-a-sunday/). I hope some people will get mindset upgraded.

I think recording video of neighbour noise inside your own unit is NOT a good proof compare to they admitting it face by face.
Remember to upload it to YouTube and keep few copies in your cloud drive.

I am not first timer stay in high-rise. At least 2 uni hostel, 4 appartment / condo i stay before this, but this is the first unit I owned, maybe my renovation offended them. But I been accepting their *dinosaur walk* , *dragging chair*, *hulk run* and *steel ball dropping* for 2 years, enough is enough!

Polite talk is not permanent if the person have bad nature, they might silent for a period but end up they will forgotten one day. Also you are deal with 1 family and not all family members will care your complaint.

Make sure when they left the house (house is empty), padlock their grill and leave a note to keep it down else you will keep padlocking their grill.

Cause them some trouble lah, they will soon stop doing those noise at they know the consequences of such action.

But make sure no one is inside lah, you dont want to be getting jail time for that haha

some of the noises you hear are proven not caused by human.

like the ball dropping sound, its actually water pipping.

chair dragging - also not caused by actual ppl dragging chairs and I believe what one forumer here said, sound travels. It might not be from your direct unit above.

I also hear sound like this on all apartments I stayed. cant be every tenant above me love to drop rolling steal ball, dragging chairs and etc.

my neighbour is a technician, so he always hammer thing during day or night, what I do is just to wearing a headset and listen mp3.

or open my TV louder, so it can cover up the noise.

Unless one buy over unit above, it is not possible to stop noise. Installing false ceiling with sound absorption materials could reduce noise from above.

Living in a community like condo, terrace house, etc certain amount of disturbance is unavoidable.

Oh yea.

It’s 3.27am now and upstairs neighbour decided to drag heavy furniture.

Moreover, little retarded kids jumping every morning at 6.30am excited to go school.

What’s more, everyday will have 1-3 nail to hammer into the wall every sunday.

What an exiting time to be alive!
