We must be deplomatic maybe sarcastic You know when I got my iphone I search and search at LYN and google, there are just loads of info. After upgrading to 2.01 I plan to upgrade to 2.1 and I still read all those pin thread and read still blur and I was fortunately to post what I was plan to do and some kind fellow here point out that I will end up with a lock phone if I did that. With that said I may not be as smart as I think I am Anyway I do hope this forum would continue to grows and help newbies not end up as a place for old timer to discuss their favourite subject. jackdon. I agreed with your (Jakesean) point of having forum is to help others on their problems, and/or knowledge-sharing... that is the major purpose of it.
It is definitely on individual mentality that if one would search for a thread or not in a forum before any posting, which I believe most of the forums nowadays do have "PINNED" or "STICKY" thread of it; same thing goes with the AU forum you posted. ![]() Unfortunately, looks like MOD in [ AppleByte ] nor [ iPhone ] sub-forum, it seems like no MODs are doing their jobs here (no offense to the MOD). Why I said so ? if those repetitively posted Qs are there, MODs can merge them all together, or at least make it more organized, isn't it ? Perhaps what makes LYN and Whirlpool is, the mentality of forumers choose to SEARCH and READ before they posts any. I reckon there are some noob/newbies does that in Whirlpool (correct me if i'm wrong), but at least there ain't so many as compare to LYN. Why ? This proves that Whirlpool forumers are more mature in the sense, they do SEARCH and READING first, right ? We all understand why newbie/noob keeps questioning Qs that have been posted (so many), yet most of them do not want to search and read at all... that makes most of the seniors here are so frustrating with their "spoonfeed" attitudes. Most of us here can't do much on their mindsets problem, but at least we can try to educate them with some posting to ask them to Search and Read first. To me, it has something to do with someone's will that keen to read up or not, if he/she wishes to get his/her problems solved. All of us here only with ONE purpose, which is to share our own knowledge with others. Unfortunately, most of the newbies/noobs take their own liberty to bypass and skip it, no even thinking of the hardwork of our contributions here, instead seeking for a shortcut → Spoonfeeding. This is merely my stand of views.... no flaming to anybody here. Just hope that every forumers here RESPECT each other, also APPRECIATE the contributions by any one of us. Hopefully through forum, we manage to increase our knowledges besides working and studying. Peace out This post has been edited by friends: Oct 5 2008, 01:36 AM |

QUOTE(jakesean @ Oct 5 2008, 01:19 AM) lets face it.. no offence but your sarcacity truely reflects how most malaysians react to criticism.. some may agree, some may not.. you will perhaps be surprised that in real life i'm always open to criticisms and would have preferred receiving feed backs from my peers. however, if you would like to think that is how a typical malaysian react to criticism, that's fine by me.people tend not to see their mistakes when they are in it.. but hopefully sooner or later, they'll realise.. for those who call themselves iphone guru's, (i'm no where near pointing at specific people), u should be ashamed at yourself for not helping out those who seeks help.. if this statement offends you, meaning you are one of them.. i admit, i now feel ashamed previously when someone asked for help, i ignored when i could have helped.. but before you go all out angelic in this inconsiderate malaysian forum and before we discuss about snubbing newbies, how about discussing the core of this matter; their mentality of expecting answers to be laid out in front of them, served on a silver platter with smiles and rainbows? if you want such services, then pay! you don't go up to your lecturer, and tell him/her that you cannot do the work because the research confuses the heck out of you (when the answers all probably out in the open for you to read) even though it is prerogative for you to obtain a degree. the lecturer/tutor is there to guide you and i'm pretty if you have done your fair bit of research and surely he/she will be glad to point you to the correct direction if you are still confused. therefore this is not just a malaysian mentality. anyway, i'm not gonna preach much but i do not deny that i would like to work under or for you in the future (if you are willing to hire me) because i do know that i can jump to you straight for help without doing anything first and still will not be yelled at. how great is that? QUOTE but at least we can try to educate them with some posting to ask them to Search and Read first. i agree with this too.. a little of this once in a while is ok, but too much of this isn't gonna work.. this is not a "DONT BOTHER ME, GO USE THE SEARCH BUTTON SUB-FORUM".. the main reason for me raising this is that everyone is asking everyone to search now.. i do not really care about the flamings that will very soon to receive, i am expecting it anyway.. i know what im talking about and i think its time for people to start helping out rather than pushing newbies away.. a real enthusiast will never push someone away if he/she needs help.. no matter how stupid his/her question may sound.. i guess that i should point out that no question is stupid.. the only stupid thing to do is to reply without helping.. e.g. "how do i do this? .. "go search.. theres a search function.. go away.. dont bother me.. " |

You think that the search button is good once in awhile? My friend, you're so totally wrong. Google was created as a search portal. If it was to meant to use once in awhile, why are they doing so well? Please, please, please.. think before you say search is only good "once in awhile" and it will be dumb to have a search button on every forum out there. Again, use your WORDS properly and i reckon you have not been thru life as i can see why you say what you say. Immaturity speaks for it self my friend. Let's stop here as this will not benefit both newbies and us. Noobs will keep asking noobs questions and i hope you're up to the job. Don't say and not follow up with actions. That's the worst kind of person you can be. Cheers This post has been edited by davidgary73: Oct 5 2008, 02:57 AM |

QUOTE(UnUsUaL @ Aug 14 2008, 11:43 AM) They are a number of repeated questions being asked on the forum. While people are here to help, it isn't fair for people to be answering the same questions over and over again. Quoted From ModIf you have a question, please use the search function and read through existing threads to find answers to common questions before posting a new one. There will almost always be someone who has had the exact same question. You'll get your answer faster, and save the moderators and other forum users a lot of time. Thanks. from my experience, own research make you more better. |

QUOTE(davidgary73 @ Oct 5 2008, 02:39 AM) @jakesean what part of my "once in a while" in my statement do you not understand? the message im trying to convey here is that some forumers tells newbies to go search for stuff all the time, rather than helping out.. rather than pushing them away, do not reply that thread, or just post a simple link to their solution.. simple, right? You think that the search button is good once in awhile? My friend, you're so totally wrong. Google was created as a search portal. well.... I think we all must stop this now. No points arguing due to the noobs/newbies Qs, which might probably distract our 'relationship' here.
Let's stay as what it is.... cos we all can't do much indeed if newbies/noobs always have the same attitudes → straight away ask Qs without even reading some. Cool down all.... |

honestly jakesean,
you ought to read back your posts (in this thread), because the things that you have said simply don't hold water and shows a hint of hypocrisy. frankly speaking, as davidgary73 have suggested, you can go ahead and carry on do whatever that you deem is fit but just don't go acting that you are one level more superior than the rest here by dropping your so-called one or two liners of wisdom (when the people here despite flaming newbies, still provide them with a satisfactory answer/solution in the end). hence unless you can do better than that, please keep your derogatory comments to yourself (yes, i know this is a forum and you can argue that it's your God-given right to speak et cetera). in fact, since you have already decided to turn over a new leaf, i tell you what... from today onwards, whenever a newbies comes in, asking questions (which have already been pinned), i will (alongside with the peeps here) ask them to PM/e-mail you personally. so that you can share your personal enthusiast's touch. of course most importantly you will not be ashamed anymore and probably redeemed your karma for what you have done previously. Ahem.....
This is getting out of hand.... Chill out and be a bit gentle on newbies is all I was suggesting. A kind word here and there is what I was suggesting. If you find that that newbie or noob is asking too silly a question for you to answer then just skip to the next thread. It serve no purpose for name calling and rude remarks to greet a new member here. Maybe the moderator would be kind enough to move the silly newbies question to the right thread and I am sure all of us here would be a happier bigger family. Just my 2 sen worth jackdon |

We would welcome you to help out with the noobs when you can. We are polite enough to ask new forumers to use the search function and read the threads opened by many here as they have made it available with answers and solutions. Btw, i found most answers thru the threads here made by forumers without opening new threads everytime i need an answer. And, everyone knows how to read and is all in English. For example. If a word like 'jailbreak' sounds intimidating, look up in google or find in the threads here. I did look up in google and found my answers. Frozzbyte did a good explanation on it too. Well, do hope to see you helping out more with the noobs. Cheers This post has been edited by davidgary73: Oct 6 2008, 05:24 PM |

it has become an issue since newbies/noobs DO NOT read/search for related threads and do their reading before posting.
Let's see how this thing goes... Most people love to choose shorcut way, don't you think so ? |

Dudes..relax la.
I got better things to do that flaming. Why kill oneself over a dumb thread. Pointless to the max. Angry u get what..money? Flame the noobs u get what..self praise? 1) Noobs are stupid..let them be la. 2) Noobs lazy to search, they stupid la. 3) Noobs ask repeated Q's, what to do la. So..forget it. Let dumb be dumber. Simple. I'm enjoying posting other stuff now..lolz. This post has been edited by davidgary73: Oct 9 2008, 01:20 AM |

QUOTE(jakesean @ Oct 9 2008, 01:03 AM) if you're curios, go do your own research yourself, since u like asking people to go search, now its your turn.... not my job reveal who is he.. not that i have anything against him.. even if i do, why should i bother bringing it up again? im not here to find trouble.. are you? man... i'm left speechless at times by the way you respond honestly. i never once implied that i was looking for trouble or hoping for one instead. if you wanna get all defensive, that's fine by me mate |

every single individual has different perspective on 1 thing, even the same one.
so, it it pointless to argue anymore on such topic as I can see. Just let what had happened past... move on for what coming next. so, pls stop cos we won't gain anything from it. pleeeaaasssee.... ? |
