ok, juz a quick question.
so conclusion, shall i get Biostar or Asrock?
coz now i've got P4 2.4Ghz (not sure Presscot or Northwood).....
aiming to setup HTPC which can run 720p mkv smoothly  tongue.gif
*
It's up to your decision. Biostar or Asrock both are low end mobo. If i choose,i would get Asrock rather than Bisotar.I think 2.4GHz proc is able to setup as HTPC as my current old school S423 is putting in living room as a HTPC too. It's good if you have amplifier + sound systems. rclxms.gif

QUOTE(Jcsy @ Jan 21 2009, 01:50 AM)
my rig also cannot handle certain 720p mkvs with 8000 bitrates or such

its a painful task while my new laptop can.. picture and audio tends to run.. well, using proper codecs is important as well but 720p movies are the dashit
*
Your rig can't handle? hmm.gif My current rig can handle 720p movies well. Between you may try Core AVC.

QUOTE(~Rogue~ @ Jan 21 2009, 02:59 AM)
guys, any good colling system to recon for my proc? coz i'm using the stock coller now, and is it wise to cahnge the GPU cooler also ?
*
If not going for o/c,it's fine to stay at stock coolers.

Surprised that most of the old S478 members are still here biggrin.gif Time has passed and I've moved on to an X2 already, and my trusty P4 rig handed down to my younger sibling.

P4 still rocks though, still able to play L4D  flex.gif
*
Hi mate, long time not seeing you here already. Currently your rig still run in o/c mode ? What game is L4D ?Have never heard..

I guess he runs on 3V is because of the BH5 chips. sweat.gif Seems like it's a bit over for the D43 chips. KM player?I will give a try on it later. Meanwhile Gong Xi Fa Cai to all members here. cheers.gif

Seems like the only one who o/c is only me. tongue.gif Butrarely use my pc,most of the time would be 2-3 hours weekday and 12hours weekend. I don't tweak my system too as i feel the performance of the proc is sufficient to me. Just now i try to load in 3.0E proc to Asus mobo, the proc temp while idle is about 43-44 degree C,quite warm compare to Northwood. I'm using back my Northy stock heatsink fan,not dare to make any o/c. While gaming, the temp will rise up to 54-56 degree but still ok with me.

i'm still with you raymond , OC my 2.8 to 3.5ghz, as i need that speed.
my abit IC7 is the successor. Serve me well thru these years.
really proud to be the owner.
*
Very happy to hear that you are still with S478 proc. rclxm9.gif Very nice one,i just change my 3.0E with 2.8C on my Asus mobo. Now temperory o/c to 3.22GHz and run otthos stress with priority 7. So far so stable. My prescott core is really hot as it may goes up 60 degree C while in full load in Orthos. With my 2.8C,max only 50 degree C on it.

QUOTE(colinwong89 @ Jan 25 2009, 03:55 AM)
Happy CNY to all of you smile.gif

Well, for one thing overclocking is definitely addictive. biggrin.gif The thought of getting extra performance without any additional cost is definitely something profitable, no? laugh.gif What definitely comes with overclocking are new performance stuff to cool things down which definitely offsets the savings that you earn with pushing your hardware in the first place.

I just got my S939 AMD X2 to replace my P4 3.0E for a very, very low price, as of now doing test runs on it and to see what has to be changed to get heat off, fast but with a miniscule budget of course. laugh.gif If you're gonna spend big on cooling you're better off allocating that cash for better parts.
*
O/c needs good cooling to prolong the hardware life span. S939X2 ? Seems like it not a good idea to replace with. Perhaps you may move to AM2 socket??
