1. Start Regedit 2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control 3. Click on the "Control" Folder 4. Find "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" 5. Select it and Modify it to a value that is lower than the default value(2000). ( I set mine to 400 )

i think setting to 0 should instantly close all programs instantly.. similar if u run command line " shutdown.exe -s -f" which will initiate shutdown and force all process to be terminated.

the downside,
like ICQ where it will save ur 'current setting' like u just click disable 'typing sound' will not be save as the shutdown sequence take about 5 sec on a P4 1.5ghz etc etc,
others like winamp or other player will not able to save 'current playlist' as when the next time u on ur pc, the playlist will follow the one b4 the changes made(the session b4 the last one).
some torrent manager program are affected, like newly added torrent disappear due to not saved, or missing dl (u actually dled up to 99% and it revert back to 75%) etc etc

yes there is.
Windows configured such that it takes a few minutes to auto shutdown "hanged" applications. When you configure it to 200ms, it will auto kill the program. If your program takes awhile to update their configurations or any software takes time to update (eg bittorrent)... you kill the program before it updates anything and next thing you know.. u gotta start where u started earlier.

startup + shut down Windows XP faster:
- Run > regedit - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control > Session Manager > Memory Management > PrefetchParameters - modify EnablePrefetcher value to 1
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > System > CurrentControlSet > Control - change WaitToKillServiceTimeout value to 4000
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Control Panel > Desktop - change AutoEndTasks value to 1 - change HungAppTimeout value to 4000

QUOTE(xordMeztGeR @ Feb 2 2005, 01:45 AM) i just push my power button there, it'll shut down automaticly, no need to wait ....wouldnt that kill ur files??? Topic: www.rovatronic.net -find and download this nice software...SmartBuster.....it has lots of functions and guess what?? 1)an automated shutdown for downloads ( means u monitor ur downloads, and when they are complete the computer auto-shutdown) 2)Windows Buster- bust windows quickly (shutdown quickly without doing any registry tweaks... they are also lots of cool functions...but i'm sticking to the topic and wun waste any more time...try it!!!

QUOTE(xordMeztGeR @ Feb 2 2005, 01:45 AM) i just push my power button there, it'll shut down automaticly, no need to wait shut down right away, or follow normal shut down processes? default, windows' configure the shut down button on keyboard, and on the casing to be shut down button, but pressing it also will go through the normal shut down process.

there is no risk in this tweak, the only drawback is that...once u click shutdown...ur comp will off ASAP and u wont have time to save anything if you click shutdown by accident

To make window boot faster, I change something on boot.ini.
This is what you can see inside the boot.ini. multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
I change the "fastdetect" to "nodetect".
*Don't know what's the risk.

QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Feb 18 2005, 07:15 AM) are you sure?? because even without the tweak, once u accidently click shutdown u cant do anything else right? when u click on shutdown, the "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" and a few more registry settings take time to activate the commands. With the # of applications running and the longer settings of those commands, it will buy you enough time to save a "notepad" document just before it closes every services and tasks. however, when you speed things up, you might not have enough time to save it. the above setting is one of my "essential windows xp tweak".....i've been using it for years. there are also a few more tweaks that can boost your shutdown duration. even when you are clicking your power button to turn off your pc, that does not speed up the process. a single push on the power button only activates trigger the shutdown command, windows will still have to follow the other command settings in when turning of applications and services in windows. doing this tweak and pressing power off is two different thing.

QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Feb 18 2005, 06:15 PM) are you sure?? because even without the tweak, once u accidently click shutdown u cant do anything else right? if you have fast hands and fast typing skills you can go to run and type "shutdown -a" that will abort it and it was the defence against sasser not too long ago so that you will have time to remove it

QUOTE(shinjite @ Sep 27 2004, 09:38 PM) Hahaha....press ctrl+alt+del then go shutdown and turn off straight Mine straight off on the spot, no need to wait for the shutting down screen also you are killing your systems give times for the pc to shutdown so any operation could be save and terminated in a correct way if the prog terminated in shorter grace period your system will cause weird problems later on

Well after doing all the tweaks, what is the time for it to shut down?
