a lot of those function we see in the Android demo will not be available in MY. The street view for example... unless sumone is gonna start goin around KL snapping street view, its not gonna work in MY. Looks cool... it works... but not here. also, a lot of those things we see in the Android demo required internet connection. Unless our 3G here is reliable and affordable, what we see will not so much useful. cool phone but we mightend up with juz receiving and making calls, that's all. unless there are plenty of application which i am sure will be flooding the market soon. Added on September 28, 2008, 2:16 pmQUOTE(jimnuz @ Sep 28 2008, 11:33 AM) oic...the very first of android os mobile...htc n goggle both in part...sound like a big boom.... for me, maybe just end up like linux os mobile...stable..but short of features...maybe im wrong..but we wait la..who knows..lol i do hope the Open Handset Alliance don't end up like LiMo. One thing i think lack in LiMo is the participation of major handset manufacturer. The OS will not take off if no major manufacturer support it. Nokia is committed to Symbian. Sony Ericsson is part of the Symbian foundation also. Samsung is all over the place... in LiMO, OHA, Symbian. Motorola... eh... i am not counting on Moto to push android. There is news that SE is testing android but so far SE is refusing to commit and even decline an invitation to join OHA. SE have said before, X1 went the WM path because SE want a piece of the US market. if Android gain popularity, maybe SE will join OHA but getting used to Google business model may get some getting use to for this people. QUOTE(rock_world @ Oct 6 2008, 02:05 PM) how much it will be..179usd is contract price right? yup surely it's contract price. QUOTE(liewxxx @ Oct 6 2008, 08:00 PM) so it's sure that it doesn't have multitouch? but it sure looks like it does... looks like the multitouch technology is proprietary feature of Apple mobile platform. if the G1 got multitouch then it doesn't need the zoom icons in the internet browser. correct me if i'm wrong.

For those who skeptical about Linux phone. Android platform also using Linux, The additional thing is added another platform on top which is quite similar to Java J2ME but custom made by the Android team under Google. There is a story behind this on why Google doesn't just use J2ME. Those who curios can search the web for further info. The big question about Android is whether it will be very open as expected of any other Linux platform. The hype about Android is because geeks want open platform that they can easily develop & customize.

Design is not appealing. Won't the bottom part of the phone block the QWERTY keyboard when it's slide down?

QUOTE(haris @ Oct 12 2008, 06:22 PM) The hype about Android is because geeks want open platform that they can easily develop & customize. yup, an in the end looks like it is not that 'open' afterall. also, the apps should only be distributed through the exclusive channel (correct me if i'm wrong) and if they r really 'open' and users can easily tweak the software stack, it's irrelevant to have some unit that got telco lock. so actually it's not that 'open' afterall. it's 'open' only for developers and manufacturers, but not to the consumers. geeks love it bcoz of the only one word they love : Linux. btw, Android got lots of potential. the preorder of G1 alone is around 1.5 million unit, so looks like it got a very bright future. but not as an 'open' platform. QUOTE(Seaedge @ Oct 18 2008, 01:10 AM) lek, different people different eyes. some sees it ok, some say its fugly. dont hav a definite answer one. yeah beauty is on the eye of beholder but the concept of design really hard to chew. only can say that the keyboard is made with much thought given onto it, but not the phone design itself. myb to cut cost but the phone design is ok for teenager or geeks. most of them will put stickers around (for them it's cool). QUOTE(yikyeou @ Nov 4 2008, 08:57 AM) Why they don't want front face camera? tmobile usa doesnt have video calling feature, idk maybe uk model will have? I've seen a few students have them, looks like a sidekick from far away, but the browsing looks good. Still need to go to tmo store to try one out. I just dont want to be hounded by them since the tmobile stores near me like to bother people to get them to tmobile. I'll see since its a week before an exam so I think I might be able to fit time to check it out.
