Mine has fan control, very convenient feature. Maybe cause you're using 4670 ICEQ4? The fan has how many wire?

Run GPU-Z and see if you can view the fan speed and temperature from there or not. 8.10 should look like the pic I posted above.
Still need to confirm if VPU recover is removed for the vista version or mine has something wrong. |

Well for gainward, you can actually go directly to the distro if you face any problem

QUOTE(Zan @ Oct 17 2008, 08:48 PM) Hey dudes and dudettes. Install the latest CCC 8.10. There is a fan controller. You can just set the fan speed to whichever that suites your ears This is my first time here and i gotta congratulate you on this nice comunity from what i`ve seen so far. I have a couple of questions and maybe you guys can help me out: I recently purchased a Gainward HD 4850 (non-GS version with the black plastic) and i`m a bit confused as to how you should OC that thing cos i tried that using the CCC Overdrive option with Auto tune, and after it tested the frequencies and passed them, the next thing was to freeze my PC and show green vertical stripes on the screen. Is it because of the PSU? I have a Gigabyte Superb 460W. Or something else? I also mention that the black screen problem also arrised but only at the begining and only in Crysis. After searching for a few answers with Saint Google, i changed the PCIe frequency in the mobo BIOS and the problem was solved. I played Warhead for a whole day without anything crashing down all around me. Another thing is, also in gpu-z the fan speed always shows 6% with 1 RPM, nomatter what the load. That can`t be right, so i was wondering if there is something to be done. Allrighty then. That about covers it. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work. Cheers |

king99, what's your budget?
1k then go for 4870 1GB, if 1.5k+ GTX280 or fork a little bit more for the 4870x2. |

He wanted either 4870 1GB or GTX280, I'll go for 4870 1GB anytime though, better price/performance ratio.

Since he wants a card now, then answer him instead of waiting for the next gen cards. Then when the next gen cards arrive, then you're gonna say wait for the 30nm DX12 card then?

So... 4850 is the only one... without the HDMI port on the card itself. Need to use converter..

QUOTE Sapphire has chosen to remove the temperature based fan control mechanism from their cooling solution. The fan will always run at the same speed, no matter if you run an idle system in Antarctica or under full load in the middle of the Saudi Desert. When asked, Sapphire replied that they "noticed that on many systems the problem is that the fan always starts and stops - at different temperatures. So we decided to always run at the same quiet fan speed". http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphir...0_Toxic/25.html This post has been edited by celciuz: Oct 19 2008, 06:29 PM |

I would say driver issue, but since you've tried reinstalling it, try the card on another system and see if it has the same problem if possible? Easiest way to see if it is caused by the graphics card or the rest of the system.

^ reference or non reference?
Non reference, go for Golden Sample. (Not sure if it is still the cheapest or not but definitely best price/performance ratio.) If reference, just select any with the longest warranty + lowest price. |
