Install the latest CCC 8.10. There is a fan controller. You can just set the fan speed to whichever that suites your ears smile.gif. It will be fixed though. What was your PCI-E frequency earlier? 100mhz is the standard and should work perfectly.
*
Wow! That was fast smile.gif Thank you

The frequency was set on auto, and i set it to 100 mhz. I forgot to mention i have an Asus mobo.
LE: and how about the question about the PSU? is the Gigabyte PSU ok for this GC? And if i install an extra cooler, will the PSU hold?

Hey dudes and dudettes.

This is my first time here and i gotta congratulate you on this nice comunity from what i`ve seen so far. I have a couple of questions and maybe you guys can help me out:

I recently purchased a Gainward HD 4850 (non-GS version with the black plastic) and i`m a bit confused as to how you should OC that thing cos i tried that using the CCC Overdrive option with Auto tune, and after it tested the frequencies and passed them, the next thing was to freeze my PC and show green vertical stripes on the screen. Is it because of the PSU? I have a Gigabyte Superb 460W. Or something else? I also mention that the black screen problem also arrised but only at the begining and only in Crysis. After searching for a few answers with Saint Google, i changed the PCIe frequency in the mobo BIOS and the problem was solved. I played Warhead for a whole day without anything crashing down all around me.

Another thing is, also in gpu-z the fan speed always shows 6% with 1 RPM, nomatter what the load. That can`t be right, so i was wondering if there is something to be done.

Allrighty then. That about covers it.

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work. Cheers
*
Try to install the latest CCC 8.10 and use the manual fan speed to adjust it to 50%. That will cool down your card a lot.

As for the green stripe, it might be artifacts. Try go to http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html
in order to see if there are any matching artifacts that same as yours.

Note: The auto-tune will OC your card to the best performance but I'm not sure how reliable it is, though.

personally using ASUS EAH4670, no problem now although at first it caused BSOD (drivers issue, think happen with all the cards regardless of brand with Vista x64, now solved with Catalyst 8.10)
heard that Gainward is not bad either, and u can consider HIS HD4670 ICEQ Turbo as well (although the fan is said to be more audible)

1. using it with CRT is not an issue coz i am using CRT as well, no problem
2. depends on what u meant "how good", i wouldn't want this card to run Crysis but so far it runs max setting on C&C3, Counter-Strike Source, Age of Empires 3, Generals, and Battlefield Vietnam without problem

procs: phenom 9950 black

lol, maybe 600W would be better sweat.gif
but the minimum requirement stated in official website says ... 500W
cooler master real power still ok, but not extreme power
but there are many better brands out there, e.g. Silverstone, FSP, Corsair, Gigabyte ODIN
