I would have be in regret if I bought my 125AX only last month. To see a newer, better-spec model released the following month (with the SAME price) right after your purchase is really a kick in the teeth.
Oh well... that's how gadgeting works. smile.gif
*
Well, you can damage the laptop or hope that it fails and then ask your reseller or HP to change to 133AX tongue.gif

Honestly, that 100mhz difference wont bring any difference in real life because same cache size. Max performance difference will be 5% That extra 70GB of HDD space sounds cool but if I have cash I will upgrade to 7200rpm drive. Faster CPU means less battery life to this model which battery life already poor.

where can i see the newest spec? any web site?

You can check out HP Malaysia's Online Store. Lazy to provide link tongue.gif

Did you install the latest ATI graphics drivers. I suggest u to download latest Catalyst from ATI website, mod using driverheaven's Mobility Modder so that you will enjoy the best experience. Also, make you you install the game correctly.

hi, i have noob question here:

can i mix the ddr2 677 and ddr2 800 ram in this notebook? and how to insert the ram?
*
Yes you can mix but it will run at 667. Anyway later you can remove the 667 stick and replace with 800. there is only one way to insert the RAM, look at the notch and google on how to install SO-DIMM.

wow... today see newspaper and found that cq40-115au sell only 1549 in pc fair! rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

but i now have some question, and hopes pros can help me. notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

1. Any diff between ATI3200 and 3450? Is the diff very big if i only normal usage with some mid range gaming like dota?

2. Since ATI3200 is an integrated card, will it produce less heat compare to dedicated ATI3450?

3. Wat is shared gpu, it shared my RAM? If i putting 4GB on both model (shared and dedicated gpu), will it diff become less?

4. the design between this two model is it the same (air flow)?

5. How much RAM can it support max? Is it 4GB?
Haiz...the price is so attactive... 1549 + 4GB 800mhz RAM (160) = 1709 only thumbup.gif  thumbup.gif
*
1. Its actually the same core with same stream processors. Only 3450 supports DX10.1 but that doesnt matter. 3200 runs at slower clock speed(if im not mistaken) and uses shared memory. 3450 uses dedicated memory. Performance wise, both wont be able to offer good performance for latest games but 3450 is about 10% faster.

2. Yes, since its intergrated in northbridge you dont have extra video chip that produce heat and draws more power.

3. Core is intergrated in northbridge and uses system RAM for graphics. The amount of shared RAM will automatically change depends on need. If Im not mistaken can share up to 1.5GB for graphics depending on RAM config. If you put 4GB and use 32bit OS you can only utilize 3GB.

4. Should be the same since its CQ40. I think the whole CQ40 shares the same case, only different components.

5. 4GB. 2 sticks of 2GB DDR2 800.

Actually from what I know, in normal implementation both of them will have 256MB sideband (or sideport) sort of dedicated memory since both of them will have chipset with integrated 3200 in it. The good thing about version of notebook who come with 3450 is that is can switch between integrated (3200) and dedicated (3450) chip or even combine both depend on the needs.
*
That is AMD's Hybrid graphics technology. Sadly HP didnt implement this even though the hardware supports it.

QUOTE(Spade @ Dec 4 2008, 09:46 PM)
Is that means for the notebook that come with 3450, HP will disable its integrated 3200? Because as far as I know, both of the models (with or without 3450) still using 256MB sideband (or sideport) sort of dedicated memory which supposed to feed the integrated 3200. Any info sharing would be greatly appreciated.
*
Desktop AMD 780G/790GX have 128MB of sideport memory, a memory chip soldered beside the NB for dedicated graphics memory. Of course that would not be enough so system memory will be shared too. In fact all computers now do use system memory if graphcis memory is not enough especially cards with 256MB or less or running at high resolution 1920x1200 and above.

In notebook platform, the only model that I know which comes with sideport memory is HP's tablet TX 2500 series. It uses 780G chipset with 64MB sideport soldered for garphics. CQ40 doesnt have sideport memory soldered though(maybe because budget model). So in other words, sideport memory is like dedicated memory for intergrated GPU.

QUOTE(daymond85 @ Dec 4 2008, 10:48 PM)
shady, ty for ur info!

that means 3200 and 3450 wont diff so much diff in some mid range game?

is it the more RAM i put in then 3200 (shared memory) wont be so much diff to 3450?
*
3450 will be smoother of course since it has dedicated graphic memory since the GPU can communicate with memory much faster. Since the max resolution is 1280x800, graphics memory doesnt matter much. 2GB would be more than enough. Another thing, if you have extra cash, I recommend upgrading to DDR2 800 memory since it is faster than the bundled memory and GPU can communicate faster with memory.

QUOTE(daymond85 @ Dec 5 2008, 01:06 AM)
Can we feel it if only normal usage and dota (most high-end game played by me tongue.gif)?
Since i m newbie, so ask a stupid Qs...
If 125ax and 115au using same mainboard, can i add add discrete GPU and make it crossfire in 115au? haha... rclxm9.gif
*
basically its the same motherboard. that discrete GPU is soldered into CQ40-125 so you cannot add any GPU to crossfire. Furthermore HP bios would definately prevent any settings. another thing is CQ-133AX(125 replacemet) has internal bluetooth and double the amount of HDD so it is worth it compared to other models. A discrete graphcis would always be better than intergrated but battery life would suffer though.

QUOTE(lordzarx @ Dec 5 2008, 03:05 AM)
correct me if i'm wrong....
125AX is using the same mobo as 115AU....and yes 125AX has both graphic card ATI 3200HD and ATI 3450HD....
bcoz ATI 3200HD is built in the mobo ATI 3450HD is just an add on....
u should be able to crossfire it....but HP has disable this feature.... wink.gif
*
QUOTE(sachinvasudev @ Dec 5 2008, 03:09 AM)
is there any bios update or somethin which we can use to enable crossfire?

HP disabled it for some reason. Not sure why and maybe you can bug them although its probably useless and wasting time.

HD 3200 is intergrated in the AMD M780G northbridge. Both 115AU and 125AX have the same northbridge. That means 125/126/133/134 have HD 3200 in the northbridge but disabled. Only HP knows why they are disabled. With extra discrete HD 3450, obviously this model would produce much more heat, higher power consumption and of course less battery life.

For C40 series, I dont think any Intel model comes with discrete graphics. Some CQ45 comes with 9200M GS and I would definately choose Intel over AMD. Intel Pent Dual Core and Core 2 Duo is much faster than AMD Turion/Ultra and consumes less power. You will definately get longer battery life with Intel notebook. Mine barely pass 1 hr and 2 hr seems impossible.

Max is 4GB. 2 sticks of 2GB DDR2 800. Under 32bit OS only 3GB can be utilized. That is official specs for AMD 780G chipset inside the notebook.

Yes. The notebook comes with 1GB DDR2 667. If you add a 2GB DDR2 800 stick, it will run at DDR2 677 with total of 3GB RAM.

If you put in 4GB and use 32bit Windows you can only use 3GB out of the 4GB.

I dont think AMD can run dual channel with different sticks of RAM.

Intel P8400 with 9200M GS will be faster than Turion 2.1G with HD 3450

That P8400 maybe up to 50% faster in certain apps, including encoding and gaming. If money is not a problem I would definately go for Intel system.

The reason I choose 125AX is I cant find any better system at RM2k price range. Some old Intel system around this price range is good but no dedicated graphics and HDMI. IMHO, for RM2k price range this model is the best one. No wonder they are selling like hot cakes.

IMHO, most laptop cooler especially cheap ones wont work well with this model. The bottom is not ventilated so no use blowing air there. Maybe you can try elevate the rear part so that hot air can blow out easier.

CQ45 series is between CQ40 and HP Pavillion dv4 series in terms of build quiality and features. Specs wise, they use the same CPU, mainboard and in fact same BIOS on certain models. If you dont have budget problem, I suggest you to go for CQ45 series with Intel P8xxx series CPU and nvidia 9200M GS. It will be faster and have longer battery life than this AMD model. fingerprint reader is actually a cool feature. u need to swipe your finger only for login. no need type password.

esata is useful if you plan to get external hdd with esata suppport. esata is actually external sata which provides up to SATA2 3Gbps speed compared to 480Mbps for USB2.0 Most external HDD now are bottlenecked with USB2.0's speed which can only transfer around 30MB/s.

For long term investment, IMHO, CQ45 with Intel CPU is a better choice. AMD Turion is already obselete in terms of performance. Only the PUMA platform saved it with good intergrated graphics performance. If not, AMD dont stand a chance against Intel. Thats why AMD notebooks and CPUs are cheap. Anyway for RM2k, this CQ40 is really a good bargain.

Even on my quad core rig, loading takes up to 1 min on RAID0 drive. Cant even get smooth framerate. With this laptop I gues loading will take few minutes and cant even get more than 20fps because this game is CPU intensive and Turion is a weak CPU.

*
Maybe you should be more specific on what you are aiming for. Turion X2 Ultra? At same clock speed, X2 and X2 Ultra peformance difference is less than 10%. In real world almost no difference. If you a looking for a Notebook with hybrid graphics, it will cost a lot. Honestly speaking AMD notebooks can sell for RM2k range only. Anything more than 3k, AMD dont stand a chance against Intel. PUMA platform is new but Turion CPUs are outdated. Maybe you need to wait till nxt year for new CPUs.

Btw, CQ40 does come with built in microphone. It is located beside the webcam. Almost all notebook comes with microphone now.

I'm not sure what is available over there but if HP, for 12 inch, you can can get Tablet tx2500 series but I'm not sure whether Turion model is available because last time I saw only Athlon model. It comes with 64MB sideport memory and good design. Sadly no HDMI port. For 14 inch, CQ40 series is available. Not many companies are selling AMD notebooks because low demand and poor peformance. IMHO, CQ40 series is the best bargain if you wana get for Christmas gift.

lag abit still acceptable, but mine is over ad.

what should i do now?

maybe you should explain more on what is lag. the slowest part of the notebook and in fact all the computers out there is the HDD. is the HDD running in background? Virust scanning? did you turn on Superfetch? Lag is usually caused by HDD not RAM.
