Found another interesting article by Christopher James @ http://graphicsbychristopher.yolasite.com/nylon.php

QUOTE
Did you know that men were the first ones to ever wear pantyhose?
Centuries ago men wore hand knitted stockings made of wool.

In 1589, William Lee of Calverton, Notts, invented the first Knitting Frame.
Excited about his invention, Richard Parkyns (a member of the Parliament for Nottinghamshire) arranged for William to meet Henry Carey and Lord Hunsdon (members of Queen Elizabeth Privy Council).
With a pair of wool stockings to show what great work William’s new invention has done, they presented it to the Queen for approval.
The Queen at first rejected the idea in consideration of what it would do to her poor subjects. It would bring them to ruin by depriving them of employment, thus making them beggars.
The Queen turned to Lord Hunsdon and declared, “Had Mr. Lee made a machine which could give me silk stockings, I would perhaps been justified in granting him a patent”. Then looking at William she said “To enjoy the privilege of making stockings for everyone is too important to grant to any individual.”

Not giving up on the dreams William had for his invention he worked making and selling wool stocking until 10 years later when he had finally perfected his invention to knit silk stockings. Unfortunately the Queen passed away in 1603, a bit too late for William to present his improvements.
William took his invention and moved to France where he met the De Caux brothers, and drew up a very complicated but precise contract in partnership for the manufacture of stockings made from silk and wool.

Tights were made as a close fitting garment for men of nobility such as King Henry VIII of England, the material would be made of silk or wool, rather than the coarser fabrics used by the so called “lower classes”.
The technology remained reasonably the same, until the 1930’s when a new circular knitting machine meant garments could be made in one piece, and no longer needed to be sewn together.
A man named Julian Hill discovered that by pulling a heated rod from a mixture of coal, tar, water, and alcohol, he could create a filament that was strong, sheer, and silk-like in appearance. Further research led research led to the first synthetic fiber, which soon came to be known as Polymer. In 1937, Du Pont patented his discovery.
At the World’s Fair in New York in 1939, synthetic fibers were first shown to the public.
Taking the “NY” from New York, and adding “Lon” from London (the origins of stockings) came the word “Nylon”. The first Nylon stockings appeared in New York stores on May 15th, 1940. Women of course started wearing the newer, lighter, softer, nylon stockings and well over 72,000 pairs were sold in the first day alone, causing the Japanese silk market to collapse overnight.

During World War II in 1942, nylon production was switched into tent and parachute manufacturing for the military forces. American soldiers still wore silk stockings under their uniforms to prevent ticks and other woodland insects from crawling up into their genital area. During which time, women who could women who desired the look of wearing stockings would shave their legs and often draw a vertical line up the back of their legs to simulate the effect.
In 1953, Allen Grant Sr. of Glen Raven Knitting Mills developed a commercial equivalent named “Panti-Legs”, but didn’t introduce it to them to the markets until 1959. During this time another North Carolinian, Ernest G. Rice invented his own design (similar to what’s used today) and in 1956 submitted a patent title Combination Stockings and Panty.
It wasn’t until the 1960’s improved manufacturing made them cheaper, spandex (or elastane) made them more comfortable, and the miniskirt made them a fashion necessity.

Throughout the 1970’s and 80’s sales started to plummet, and women more preferred the “bare-legged” fashion. Pantyhose where no longer required in a workplace for women’s dress code.
While sales remain low, alternative styles have seen growth. Fishnets, patterns and colors, opaque tights, low-rise, footless shape wear, and pantyhose for men.

The company Legg’s has done research and has discovered that more men enjoy buying, and wearing their product than women.

Now there are many companies that make pantyhose for men, or today otherwise known as “Manyhose”
(which in my opinion is a ridiculous name).

Some of the companies worldwide are:

* ActivSkin
* Leve’e
* Legwear For Men
* Mytights.com
* Shapings.com
* Comfimay
* Lexwear
* Silk Stockings
* Kousenboetiek
* Luxelegwear
* Howieria
* Maennerlingerie
* Strumpfversand
* Kelkoo
* Taac.it
* Collants.fr
* Ferillo
* Loretta
* Derstrumpf
* Megasam
* Its4you
* Harisnyadiszkont
* Tights Fashion
* Tightsstore
* Modehaus Henssler
* Silver Lingerie
* Mentights.com/warntex

A link to each of these companies website can be found at
e-MANcipate.net, a website dedicated to the fashion of men wearing pantyhose as an everyday garment.

Men today who wear pantyhose are:
NFL football players who wear them under their uniforms for warmth, Hunters/Campers often wear them for warmth and to protect against ticks and other insects, Soldiers in Iraqi and Afghanistan are wearing them under their uniforms for protection against sand fleas, Men with varicose veins or other circulatory problems wear medical hose for to improve blood circulation.
There are hundreds if not thousands of men wearing pantyhose for hundreds of reasons. I can't speak for those men on the subject of why they wear pantyhoseâ€Ĥ I only have one: "They’re comfortable"!

A lot of the information in this report was information I found on Wikipedia. Other information was gathered on information that has been passed along to me from talking with random strangers who struck up interesting conversation after seeing a man wearing pantyhose (me).

How much of it is 100% accurate, I am unsure... What I do know is this:
Men have been wearing pantyhose since the beginning of the invention of Stockings, and men are still wearing pantyhose to this day.

Only after the 100 plus years that have passed where Women have taken over the Legwear fashion, men are finally stepping up, and taking back what was faded out. Only we're not really "taking it back". We're not greedy... Women look Great in pantyhose... we're just trying to share, and show the world that pantyhose are a unisex article of clothing.

-(giggle),

the couple pictured in e-mencipate.net looked kind of cute. wink.gif , pretty nice hunk too..

Now that you mentioned that, I do believe probably many guys do love a pair of beautiful legs, even better if wrapped in hose in well revealed manner like short skirt, or shorts . Many ladies just loved those designs posted on earlier postings, fancy designs are cooled to have. Though myself not a big fan of it. I did notice on a few occasions, I went outing after works with my bf, when wearing shorts, he did to run his hand on my hose covered leg .. maybe there is this "in-thing" in many men, a bit fetish like. Now that I am thinking, if I can get a pair of those hose for him as gift, it can be a playful suggestion to ask him to wear it while going out with me. I am a big fan of "couple-dress", couple dressed alike.  icon_idea.gif

One thing for sure, I knew well about effect of black pantyhose, I usually opted for skin color,a good friend, my co-worker , her hosiery is usually is usually black, opaque or sheer, she did command good attention from men at times, especially while doing presentation with me at the side watching. Even some man stared at her from head to toe from time to time. Any ladies reading this, care to comment ?

i would say ur bf is a very lucky man. is kind of hard to have a couple which both also like pantyhose in malaysia. but, when u and ur partner share a common interest, ur journey will be more interesting...

agree with you, if gals wan more attentions from guys, no need purposely wear very sexy outfit, just wear hose especially shining sheer type. is any 1 here wear hose almost whole day, even sleep time? sometime i really did that, it feel so warm when the weather is cold. i had a friend in US, she really like pantyhose a lot, she wears it everyday except for bathing time.

This is another long winded rant..

@Rikrik,

Haha! I think I am not so much into hose , to the extent of fixated with it to have a fetish. So happen that, out of necessity, I need to wear them. It was not a comfortable feeling, sweaty, having runs , twisted legs, falling down when you are face to face with customers, to me , the sentiment of wearing pantyhose was not a great one at the beginning . Through many researches, readings , trials and errors, opened to different opinions. I arrived at a comfortable solution and methods of wearing them. That being, maybe repeating what I said earlier .. (to the benefit to vanilla girls if you are thinking of wearing one, as for guys, sorry about feminine undertone at times.)

-Get a good pair of hose, price do matter. The return is, more reliable and less prone to run and fail , less worry, less embarrassment too. Imagine that if the same happens to your bra kept falling off , off balance ?

-A support one helps relief your aching active leg, it holds to your leg well and does not slip very easily. If you have to stand a lot, walk a lot or seated for long hour. Support or compression hose will always make you feel better after the fact, with improved blood circulation, simple as that. Do not simply go for those medical-compression style unless you have condition that needs that.

-Balance between sheerness and strength, too sheer may not have enough support
and strength. Lack of sheer may mean too thick for comfort (humid & hot). That's why, younger ladies today likes opaque hosiery with shorts,or fancy patterns, I felt is more like passing trend, , many will just abandon it to go back to bare look once the season is over, especially if their hose wearing experience was not a great one.
Whereas wearing sheer style to improve dress formality is more timeless (spared the stupid "old lady" comment) , even if company casual rule allows ripped jeans, no harm slipped into a pair sheer black pantyhose under it , or even fishnet ;P )

-Hot & Humid , avoid underwear when needs to be in and out of air-con/outside. Get those with cotton crotch/lining design. That also avoid VPL. I usually avoid sheer to waist because I go without panties. (I keep my modesty on guard at all time). I am always under the impression that, sheer to waist is good for very short skirt, usually with safety pants and panties , to prevent the darker looking part from showing.I could be wrong.

-Avoid sharp jewelery and keep well polished trimmed nails to avoid cut and tear while putting them on. Just common sense.

-Pantyhose is to be put on in the privacy of your own room, put them on when you have no clothes on, properly seated and not standing and hopping to gain balance while trying to pull on your hose . If you think that pantyhose is just like socks to be put on before you slip on your shoes, your hose wearing experience will likely to be poor.
Have your hand into the hose , gather them all gently into bundle, take your hands out holding with both hands then slip them over your toe, gently pull them up to waist level . In that way, I usually avoided twist and turn. Also, with nothing on, it's easier to pull and even out the pressures without need to fight with obscured view of falling skirt. It usually take less than a minute for me to do that, much less effort than previously thought.

-Right size, better quality hose has size, free size hosiery is only good for those average size, if you are taller, get the right size. Overly big or too small will not make the experience any good. I spend like 8-9 hours wearing it, I need to feel real good.

-If you leg is less slim, avoid bright colored hosiery. Opt for darker hose, it gives an illusion of slimmer look. For me, I usually avoided black hose so that a run would not show up easily.

-Keep a small bottle cheap clear nail polish, it can repair any holes and stop runs. It did magic many times for me.

Wearing them after work only limited to mall shopping and movies. Remember how I go with just pantyhose without undies , my after work casual wear usually is T-shirt & shorts (mid-tight length, capri), I kept them on for comfort and modesty. Usually I like a pair of trainer with socks over my hose (A bit of hooter girl look minus the tight and tiny shorts.... er..hm). Yes I have been to that restaurant with male colleague before and I could see how a nice looking pair of legs wrapped inside hosiery can cast a magic spell on man's attention. To us, it's just a piece of garment, seriously, and nothing more.

Rare occasion I wear them at home, Only once/twice I had it on while traveling, when going to bed, the weather was sub-zero at night.

As for my bf, I think many guys also enjoyed the sensation of running their hand over the lady's leg, if you sit close enough during playful time, just that having your leg wrapped in a pair of smooth silky hose , enhances that feeling a lot. Having seen many guys also into wearing pantyhose, the playful suggestion is also a nice way out of closet for my bf, if and only if , one day I caught him wearing hose, or if he decides to come clean and confess to me he likes to wear hose , it will make that experience easier for him than just being a mental burden of how to hide from me or tell me openly.

I think I am more mentally prepare for that. I read in some forum, some wives caught their husband/bf wearing or confessed to the liking of hose, they almost freaked out . It will certainly strain the relationship.

maysee82,

thanks for sharing so much experience with us. it proof that u done a lot of survey in pantyhose. I would say that i'm kind of person who r more into feeling. i wore pantyhose because i like the silky smooth feeling between my legs. Especially when i wear it under long jeans or pants, it feel very good. good quality really make different, i'll choose pantyhose which has cotton crotch on it because can skip panties, but i'll wear panties over pantyhose if no cotton crotch on pantyhose.

Rikrik,

"I would say that i'm kind of person who r more into feeling... "

I completely agreed with that 200% , I think we got past the resistant level of sweaty ~ too hot, small size ,constant runs blah blah blah with all those excuse why "pantyhose should be banned at all cost".. To me, yes, it feels good, makes my leg more attractive and pretty too, even send a few man out sweating.. smile.gif

Many ladies also had poor experience that probably drives them to avoid wearing pantyhose altogether. Also like to attribute the root cause to many local businesses that markets the hose, completely lack of knowledge from sales person, or having a sales person that hardly good experience wearing one at all. So, how to even sell and convince customer is a good buy ?

Irony is, even guys are enjoying that feel good factor while many gals are shunning it.

Just watch a re-run of Lara Croft- Tomb Raider, her rugged adventure outfit is kind of cool , I am thinking , pair the short with sheer glossy hose , oversize boots and white socks. Top it up with sporty bra, leave the oversize shirt unbutton to reveal some cleavage ,, so cool.. feminine from the inside and yet feels the power from the outside.

Last statement will sure send a few man reading this thread out sweating .... tongue.gif

So, guys & gals, any nice hose wearing ideas to share. ?

Good to hear that both maysee and rikrik are both pantyhose lovers biggrin.gif

Does anyone notice that somehow this is a cycle that will never end -
(i) Most women don't have the chance to own/wear/try on a pair of good quality hosiery, resulting in bad experience such as too hot, small size, constant run as mentioned above. Cheap hosiery comes in one size but there are women with different sizes and height, there's no such thing as free-size as it will not fit properly at all.
(ii) Bad experiences lead to hatred, disgusted with pantyhose resulting in low demand of pantyhose on the market. Who wants to wear them if it's such a troublesome attire/accessories to add on?
(iii) Low demand means no retailers will bring in better quality hosiery to the country; to save cost, cheap hosiery made in china were imported instead and the purpose is just to cater to the small population who were forced to wear them as part of their dress code. Now those who need it for their dress code have no choice, these are the only ones available/easily obtained from the market.
(iv) It's back to step one again, most women will never be able to experience the wonders of good quality, properly designed hosiery.
See, that's the never ending cycle that will eventually bring death to this fashion that we love.

Unless someone decided to step up and do something like bring in good quality hosiery, promote them aggressively in a positive way, or perhaps a start a big scale revolution until 'lights shine upon the dying fashion'.

BTW, what do you gals think about girls wearing shorts with black tights paired with converse or flats/pumps (quite common nowadays)??
Something like this -
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Well, I asked my gf about it and she said it's not nice at all. She said tights should be worn with a proper dress instead and not shorts/pants.

I was thinking, for guys if you want to wear it out, just do it! Don't have to worry about what others think. And it's not like you're acting like a sissy when you're having them on. We have to change the mindset, remember, men have legs too.
To me, it's just another type of clothing, meant to be unisex. You can probably start by wearing opaque masculine colours (black, dark brown, navy blue) as part of your sporting attire, eg, jogging as they provide support and improve blood circulation when you run. Then can try pairing up with cargo pants with a proper pair of shoes, sporty shoes should be okay.This is just my opinion. Any comments or other suggestions??

@evilhomura,

hose lover ? I doubt that.. smile.gif

on the example, depends on taste, I thought it was quite ok. In fact, some of my after work hour outings, to movies/ mall shopping, happened to be just like that with daytime sheer working hose, of course, shedding the formal skirt/suits.

I could be wrong on this, opaque caught on locally maybe is due to the strength of it, does not run that easily and practical enough, of course media influence from korea/taiwan/hk/japan, even some local 8tv host during some talent show, also wear this combination. Maybe hose manufacturer has done something to help drying up the sweat, else thick opaque tights probably more suited to cooler climate (going genting ?). Even with sheer style hosiery, I still can feel sweaty at times.

Shorts with fishnet is probably nice too. if not black, skin color fishnet is not a bad idea. I have seen some design with very fine net. But I am still stick to my support style..sorry
I stumbled upon this site
http://www.danskin.com/legwear-dance.html
Hosiery for dancer, they have some fishnets too. I knew dancer are very rough with their clothing and to be able to withstand that wear and tear should be quite durable type. Only thing it was not mentioned, cotton crotch design. I was tempted with their footed hosiery range, the convertible design is a pretty neat idea.

Anyway, I could be wrong about the opaque as just fashion trend and hype.

On 1 thing I totally agreed, it is very classy (outright sexy) to be on little black dress and black pantyhose, any pattern at all , opaque, sheer or even fishnets. The only caveat is, you need to have decent bodies too.

I was in this formal wedding dinner, a few years ago, this lady into 40s, petite but very good shape was wearing figure hugging LBD, but no hose at all , to rub more salt to the wounds, there were even a few patches of spider vein visible, really a let down. Even slipping on a pair of sheer hose, spray on air stockings could help, but no . A bit like a authentic Mona Lisa painting that uses a cheap plastic frame. smile.gif

If your gf dislikes hosiery, perhaps you should entice her with wolford as birthday gift, and send her to read my suggestions. I have good feeling she will change her mind and dress to feel good than to be dictated by what outside fashion trend says is good or bad.

I've just tried the Marks and Spencer 10 denier Matt Look Tights - http://www.marksandspencer.com/Pairs-Denie...h=n%3A341278031
It's quite loose (no-support) compared to the hosiery that I've had, it feels like i'm not wearing it at all as it is very sheer (10 denier). The quality is not as good as expected though. I think it's good for hot/humid weather, but I'm selling it cause I didn't really like it and the colour is too light for my darker skin.
Anyone interested to get them at cheaper than retail price? There's still 4 new pairs left - http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1401710&hl=

Just a random question, but how high up does everyone wear their tights? Up to where? Hip? Belly button/navel? Mid stomach? Or right underneath the breast?

@evilhumora,
I was looking at the link to M & S, they have a range the goes by the name "bare cooling" It has Polyurethane as one of the fibre.. that is something pretty new to me. But it is a bit too dear at about 4-5 pounds /pair. Very light denier range too, a bit doubtful about the durability. But review from customer said that it is cooling for summer wear. I do wish they have higher denier range in future with support too.

Support hose I bought usually has higher content of lycra, makes it very stretchable, also has appearance of shiny look. Hanes is like 27% lycra at leg region. Leggs did not indicate , also appears shiny a bit. My older stock of cosmetic hose, the cheapo ones, like ~5%, appear matt look and very thin.

I usually has it up to waist line only, sometimes I folded it down. The hose size I got is usually one size larger. I am curious why would anyone wear it up so high ?

i went through an Europe pantyhose website reviews. http://www.tightsfashion.co.uk/index.html inside there, they reviews almost all kind of pantyhose brand in europe market. after i tried europe brand, i won't look at local pantyhose anymore.

"I am curious why would anyone wear it up so high ?", this is because sometime if didn't pull up high, it tend to slip of, and when wearing without panties, it feel like unprotected...

@applecream,
welcome to this thread, yeah, I am daily hose wearer out of necessity for my job . Good quality pair of properly size and fit pantyhose certainly enhances the wearing experience , I did a long winded write up earlier if you like to check it up.
I am not so much into fashion trend, but more of wearing experience sharing , I usually prefers support style that gave me some compression effect and ache relief.

About the magic on man, no doubt about it , I went to Hooters before with male co-workers during a trip overseas. You should see their reactions. tongue.gif

Even a few guys here also enjoying the experience of having a nice pair of hose on their legs too.

@Rikrik,
Yeah, that is given. I usually did not experience slipping down like I had with those undersized cheapo and when I skipped panties, it clings on well to my skin. I like to fold the top down to conceal it, at times my shirt ride up, or become un-tugged, I just did not like to reveal the top too, be it panties or top of pantyhose.

More on comfort and I like the smooth feeling of a pair of good hosiery on my legs. I am alost a 24 hours wearer.

Maysee82 and evilhomura89, for M&S, you should check out the 40 denier pantyhose, I think they cost about RM60 upwards for 3 pairs...very nice quality and durable. It comes in a pack of 3.

I wear it up to waist. I think it will tends to roll down if you wear it from anywhere above waist.

ANother question for the crowd here. Has anyone tried wearing stockings with garter belt for a day?
I wear it few times, well...I got to say the experience is interesting. No big movement as I worried the garter belt might snap off. And the stockings starr rolling down. Later I discovered that a good garter belt, those with metal clasp, and of 6-8 straps, would actually prevent this. However, I think I will stick to the pantyhose, course I like the feeling of pair of pantyhose wrapping my waist area.

Rikrik, that is a good website. Some American brand is equally good as well, i.e. Hanes & Leggs as mentioned by maysee82. I realised that some affordable brands from Europe and American are pretty good quality, and not necessary you must go for those high end brands. Which is different from Malaysia. You almost certain need to pay a bomb to get a decent pair.

I realised that some affordable brands from Europe and American are pretty good quality, and not necessary you must go for those high end brands. Which is different from Malaysia. You almost certain need to pay a bomb to get a decent pair.

Hmm...went to the M&S in MidValley Gardens but I don't remember seeing anything like what you've mentioned.
I saw their 60d tights though - 3 pairs for RM69. And most of it having 10-15d only.

Yes, that's the one. My mistake, it is 6od. It's a bargain comparing to those cheap hosiery from other brand. This M&S can last you for a while.
Talking about cheap brand, I happen to have few pairs of grey colour pantyhose sold in Guardian. Quite smooth, and the colour looks nice under light. I saw a sales lady wearing it, so went ahead to ask her where she got it. She's quite happy to tell me, and I guess I'm lucky of not getting a slap on the face or weird look tongue.gif

2. Wolford Miss W Tights
3. Wolford Velvet De Luxe 50 Tights
4. Wolford Velvet De Luxe 66

Yup Guardian home brand...

Definitely go for Fatal 50.
I have Fatal 50 and Velvent Deluxe in black, and few pairs of Satin in few shades (the Satin is considered the more affordable Wolford). The Satin is flat seam, and it feels so comfortable.

Try Fogal as well...I read that Gerbe is as good as Wolford, but cheaper.

Kinda feeling strange, two guys talking about hosiery.
