wanna see huntkey v-power 550W go KABOOM when loading it with 550W of power? Really shocking. Apparently the perfect wattage output is 60% (330W) of stated 550W load, reaching the efficiency of 80%+. When a load of 80% (440W), the efficiency drops to 70%+. When a 100% load (550W) is applied, it exploded.

"If you follow closely our power supply reviews you know that two models we reviewed from Huntkey Green Star series – 400 W, sold in the US as Dynex 400 W, and 450 W – exploded during our tests. So we decided to get a more “powerful” model, V-Power 550 W, to see if it has the same fate as its sisters. Is V-Power 550 W a good power supply or it is as flawed as the members from the Green Star family? Check it out.

The funny thing is that the manufacturer's website lists both rails at 18 A but the sticker clearly lists one rail at 16 A and the other at 18 A. But, like we already explained, this unit uses exactly the same rectifiers as used on Green Star 400 W and Green Star 450 W from the same manufacturer.

What exploded were the two switching transistors. When the power supply explodes it means that the primary side is under dimensioned. When the secondary side is under dimensioned the power supply dies silently, because when a rectifier burns the short-circuit protection enters immediately in action shutting down the power supply.

So Huntkey should have used more powerful transistors and added a heatsink to the rectifying bridge, plus using rectifiers with higher current limits for the +12 V output."

Marketing gimmick. 550W my ass.

If u have high end cpu, spend a few hundred bucks more on PC&C or Corsair/OCZ or other brands that uses the same OEM with the brands mentioned.

Meaning that review's result was not correct? @@ Or that Huntkey will make an actual 550W that has above 70% efficiency instead?

Huntkey 550W should work fine with most system with 1 powerful GC up to 9800GTX+/4870 as for a typical system of 2HDD, C2D of TDP 65W, 4 sticks of rams, 1 DVDRAM, and a few bling blings in ur casing, the power draw is about 400W or less, which as shown to achieve an efficiency of 80%+.

Big problem (as in explosion) will arise when u do a crossfire/SLi setup with this 550W PSU. A dual GPU setup easily drains 500W of power which, if the video is true, will explode.

Conclusion is if u're using a single GPU setup, huntkey 550W should do just fine with 80+ efficiency. If u assume huntkey 550W to be "Pure Power" and do a 4850 CF/8800GT SLi (a pure power 550W should do the job), prepare to see fireworks.

Wah, trying to bribe huh. ._. I checked on 80plus.org, they do have some real true power, but I suppose the price is quite high as well ._. Probably around the same price as the other true powers.

Huntkey competitors ask Hardwaresecrets to do it?
Bro, are those Huntkey contacts you have there 3 year olds?
If it was true, this would have been defamation.
Ask Huntkey to sue them then.

Even Jonnyguru mentioned that Huntkey always rates their PSUs 100w above it's true capabilities...
Well, if you do not know Jonnyguru, go google and see who he is, then you'll knwo if it's reliable.

It's not comparing apple to banana here.
It's the business ethics.
When you publish a claim that the units deliver 80% efficiency, you deliver it.
If you publish that your unit deliver 80% efficiency and yet, it only delivers 70%, that is cheating.

Btw zhen^wei, please do not get me wrong that i'm blaming you, it's huntkey to be blamed for the misleading facts.
As a seller, you're a victim too and you deserve an explanation from the manufacturers.

yaa i agreed wit u @meno, although people can say dont expect huntkey low price can be compare to those pricey psu, but we r talking bout the true power claim, what huntkey has done, intentionally or not, it put us consumer hardware at stack, where psu is like a heart for a pc, when it cause trouble i can damage other component as well, although pc not that expensive, it still more than a couple of thousand to build a good gaming rig..

btw zhen wei, u also the victim, so be patience wit wat is coming to u.. after all it is the responsibility of a seller.. notworthy.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
