This overdrive is super safe IMO. I did it on my card, 740/1140 ._.

Right now, 38-39C idle and 60C max when playing Warhead. This fan sounds much more silent! Thought it is spinning slower? @@ I thought 55% was about 1.6k. Anyways, this card when I bump the fan speed to 100%, no more metal cracking sound. My old one had some weird sound when fan goes up fast.

Last time idle temp how much?

My previous idle was 52C at night, 54-56 afternoon depends on weather. Never below 50C. Max load at 81C at night.

Maybe your place very hot perhaps? I'm using aircond now. But even without aircond on a very hot day also is about a bit higher than 40C. Never did it idle at 50+ @@.
*
Even rainy day also never below 50C. I'm using CM690 with standard 3 fans setup. The front/side is pulling air into the casing, rear exhaust. However, I didnt set the fan speed to 55% because I'm using auto. How about you guys?

You guys, I already installed the RMAed card and it is impressive.

There are two noticeable different on the card: (everyone should have known by now)
1. Silver color heat pipe
2. Back plate to support the cooler

After some testing I noticed the temp is much lower than I expected
Old card: 52C idle 80C max load (auto fan speed but default at 6%)
New card: 34C idle 60C max load (auto fan speed but default at 50%)

I can believe the card temp improve 18C idle and 20C max load. This is madness!!!

P.S. Thank you Netraid for the new card.

Look out for the small key, press it to unlock.

lotiman2003, 34C idle? dry.gif That's damn low...
*
I was shock too because I thought the sensor is dead. Since the fans is running at 50% so it might be the case.

QUOTE(hahn87 @ Oct 15 2008, 05:42 AM)
back in some page in this thread i posted my rig using CM690 case with HD4870GS. my card auto fan at 50% and under load oso the fan will only go till 60%. checked using rivatuner's graph. idle at 50C load at 65C +-.
CM690 user with HD4870GS. side panel fan pls convert to blow out instead of blow in. open all the PCI back plate for air intake. HD4870GS not only exhaust air to the back of the card it also stray out from the side coming out from the heatpipe area so if u have your side fan blowing in it will only spread the heat throughout the inside of the case.

owikh84: can i know the spec of your PC? what motherboard you using there =D
*
So anyone using CM690 or similar casing with side panel fans exhaust out rather than exhaust in?
I notice my CM690 is quite warn around the front drive section. The area which is below my DVDRW and on top of the HDD tray.

The part where you could put a floppy? Mine feels a bit hot. But my DVD drive is just 1 notch above that. Maybe the hot air got trapped in there I suppose.
*
Yes the part we put the floopy. I can even feel the warm when touching the 5.25" front panel bracket.

Hey Celciuz, my 4850GS is showing 32C at midnight yesterday. I found it kinda odd because it is way too low. My 1st card is 52C at midnight but new card is 32C. Could it be the new card has different BIOS or sensor than report different reading?

I understand that the new card is default fan speed at 50% compare to previous 6% but how is it possible when increase fan speed lower the temp so much?

Any thought?

Yes, boot up is much much slower after installing the new card. I didn't re-install CCC as I only put back the new card into the PC and start.

Toxic 100C+? This is insane. If 100C then there are no point buy it since reference is almost the same. How about the Toxic 4870? It use the vapor chamber cooling and some review said it is not bad.

yaya, the screen suddenly goes blank and when recovered, the game already stop and there is a popup saying my driver has stop working and recovered.
*
I also has driver crashed problem which is same message as yours but it will display artifacts before goes blank and auto restart. My previous card was 1st batch so might be the card problem. Even re-install driver could help it to recover. Even in windows got artifacts.

The 4850 and 4870 performance different around 20-30% right? If you a avid gamer then extra boost is always a welcome. But the price is more expensive.

Re-install driver then try and see. You may go and download Furmark and try to run it for a while. See whether it can run the stability test for over 5mins with 8XMSAA.

I wan to see how Nvidia response to 4830... I heard they going to rebadge their G92b (55nm) to GTX 100 series. Is it true? Their GC naming is too confusing. The same GPU can be rebadge to 3 series. From GF 8,9 to GTX100
